Got a car, and collection agency
Got a car, rented, all good. 6 months later collection agency gets on me for unknowingly having gotten a traffic ticket which wheego never informed me of during the rental period.
Happy to pay a traffic ticket, but to learn about it 6 months later with tons of late fees and no communication from wheego is a joke.
I strongly advise against renting a car…
I strongly advise against renting a car from Weego. This company uses unacceptable practices aimed at seizing the customer's entire deposit. In my case, they unlawfully withheld 3100 PLN for damages that either did not exist or would cost a mere fraction of that amount to repair.
Why you should stay away:
Intentionally looking for "damages": Upon returning the car, the employee immediately pointed out three issues. We had a photo of the first "damage" from the start of the rental – only after showing this proof did he withdraw the claim. This clearly proves their bad intentions and dishonesty.
Invisible scratches: The second "scratch" turned out to be just dirt. Even after we cleaned and dried the area, the employee insisted he saw something. Even if there were a micro-scratch (invisible to the naked eye), the cost of removing it with a simple "one-step" polish would be symbolic—around 50-100 PLN—not thousands!
Stone chip on the windshield (so-called "bullseye"): The company is demanding payment for a full windshield replacement due to a microscopic chip on the passenger side. The damage is smaller than a 2 PLN coin and is located more than 10 cm from the edge. According to industry standards, such damage is repaired with resin in 20 minutes for about 150-250 PLN. Claiming the entire windshield needs replacement is a complete lie.
They took 3100 PLN from us, while the actual repair costs (if any were even necessary) would not exceed 500 PLN. This is a blatant scam targeting tourists. I have used Weego in Gdansk before and it was perfectly fine, but this specific branch is a completely different, dishonest story. I warn everyone – read the negative reviews and believe them, because they are 100% true!
What a bad experience we encountered
What a bad experience we encountered with this company!!!!!
Firstly we hired a car from them at birmingham airport online for 3 weeks at the cost of £235: brilliant 👏 we thought.
The pick up was planned for 11am. Then unexpectedly we were delayed at an airport and we contacted them at 8am, as soon as they opened, to let them know that we would be late, but in the country later that same afternoon. They informed us that they could only keep the car for 2 hours. We arrived at 5pm and they had told us that our reserved booking had been cancelled and then offered an alternative to the tune of a further £310 extra on top of our original £235 and only SUV available to hire at that time leaving us with no choice but to go ahead there and then, and we were also told we must have the car valetted before returning the vehicle. Never have we had to have a valet upon returning a car from any hire company. We were told that when returning the car, as we had an early flight out of the country, someone would be there to accept the return, when this was discussed with a manager, this was a categorical no as this is something they do not do, thus making us late for check in at the airport, hence we had to return the car a day earlier to avoid delays.
Upon returning the vehicle to them, they inspected the vehicle telling us that there was a very minor scuff to the front quarter of the car, which was then made worse but the inspector rubbing against the panel with the sleeve of his coat.. after we stated we had video evidence of all the panels, this was insisted by management to be viewed. As this was not good enough, We were then told to return to the office to pay for the damages, and the car would have to go back to the dealership to be professionally rectified. This would cost us an additional £150 extra, which we outright refused to pay after being completely screwed over when initially hiring the car. Another manager then inspected it and said "its fine, no problem, no charge"
Customer service here is non existant and would highly recommend that they undertake a training course on how to properly run and manage a car hire company
Avoid at all costs, check other car hire firms before using these con artists
Paid the Fine, But the Intimidation Tactics Were Worse Than the Fine
The fine itself was real, and the moment Wheego finally sent the official Bulgarian police document, I paid immediately.
What made this experience unacceptable was everything that happened before that.
For days, they pushed payment through a Stripe link while refusing to provide the single basic document any reasonable customer is entitled to review. Instead of transparency, they chose intimidation: aggressive legal threats, accusations of bad faith, references to criminal liability, and a tone so arrogant it felt designed to pressure payment before proof.
Only after this completely unnecessary bullying did they finally send the exact police notice that should have been attached from the very first message.
So yes, the fine was legitimate.
Their handling of it was not.
What should have been a two-minute customer-service interaction turned into days of threats, arrogance, and avoidable hostility.
After experiencing this firsthand, the flood of negative reviews surrounding this brand no longer feels surprising — it feels deserved.
Landed at Manchester airport & got extorted …
Landed at Manchester airport, already booked car hire with Wheego.com in advance. They refused to allow me to take the car because they said the car hire price was too cheap & they wanted an extra £100 as my driving licence with proof of home address on it,credit card & debit card all in my name was insufficient to allow me to take the car as they wanted an extra paper proof of address. However if I paid an extra £100 they would accept the documents I had! I refused to be extorted & walked to another carhire company at the airport & had no issues with my documents.Be warned!!!
No confirmation in the system
No confirmation in the system, hidden fees for insurance.
Very unprofessional behavior of the front desk personel.
This is the worst car company ever
This is the worst car company I have ever had to deal with in my life. I had 2 physical debit cards that had plenty of money to cover the deposit, but they specifically needed credit cards which I didn't have. As such, they didn't allow us to take the vehicle and I wasn't able to get a refund from booking. Absolute piss poor company
Absolute SCAM
Absolute SCAM. Buyer beware !! My deposit turned into a "Luxury Upgrade" I booked and paid for a Peugeot 208 or similar and was given a Seat Arona, both standard gears and no frills. They have you sign in a little signature pad and pay your "deposit" but give you no paperwork because it's emailed to you in case you're pulled over or get into an accident. Once you realize the deposit was never returned it's then discovered that you were upgraded to a luxury package even though it's a similar class of car. Unbelievable scam !! Please be careful. I booked online through Carjet
I had a very stressful and…
I had a very stressful and disappointing experience with this rental company at pick-up.
At the time of booking, my confirmation clearly stated a deposit of £249. However, upon arrival, I was told the deposit would be increased to £990 unless I purchased their in-house insurance. I had already arranged separate excess insurance, but staff repeatedly pressured me to buy theirs and insisted that third-party insurance would not pay out, which I later understood to be misleading.
The situation became increasingly uncomfortable. I was told that “even the smallest scratch would be charged,” which felt like an intimidation tactic. After reviewing the contract, I can see that there is actually no clear definition of what qualifies as chargeable damage — no distinction between minor wear and tear and actual damage, and no indication of size or severity. This lack of clarity, combined with what I was told, made me feel I could be charged arbitrarily.
When I became visibly upset due to the pressure, I was told that the car might not be released to me unless I calmed down. Another staff member also approached and accused me of being rude, which I found unfair given the situation.
I was also informed that an additional £99 would be held for up to 6 months for potential fines, which was not clearly communicated beforehand.
Overall, the experience felt highly pressurised, misleading, and far below the level of customer service I would expect. I would strongly advise others to read the terms very carefully and be prepared for significantly higher deposits and aggressive upselling at the counter.
For my own protection, I took a full video of the car at collection due to the number of existing small scratches, as I did not feel confident in how damage would be assessed on return.
Worst car rental experience ever!!!
ATTENTION: SCAM! Worst car rental experience ever! Please be careful!
I've rented cars in many different countries, but the experience with Wheego at Tirana airport was by far the worst. Even though the office doesn't make an unprofessional impression, the employees speak decent English and the car was in good condition, you can tell from the first moment that their main goal is to rip people off. They try to sell you their overpriced insurance and then of course charge you a tremendous amount for every extra (like crossing the border to a neighbor country). They must have taken that over from the mother company in Germany, where an extra day costs more than the actual rent for a week and where they give you cars without winter tyres in snowy January. Like that the orginal comporatively low basic amount already becomes quite a bit more than expected. But well, if it only had been that...
The nightmare is waiting for you when you return the car. Understandably they're very accurate when it comes to the inspection of scratches. I returned the car with a tiny little scratch which wouldn't even have been particularly noticeable. They charged me 280 € for that. As if that weren't enough, they told me that I allegedly drove on a forbidden road to Lake Koman (one of Albania's most popular tourist attractions) and demanded a 500 € fine for it. I couldn't believe what I just heard, especially since I had asked another employee when I picked up the car if it's possible to drive to Valbona and he confirmed that. The only realistically drivable way to Valbona is via Lake Koman where the road is not paved, but in a reasonable state. The other much longer road is apparently in a distinctly worse condition. I also insured them that I was driving very carefully everywhere I went and even washed the car from the inside and the outside before returning it. But they didn't care. They insisted that I pay the 500 € right away and wouldn't even if give me the invoice for the damage of 280 € before I have settled the full amount. So overall I'm leaving their office with a total additional payment of 780 €. Considering that the basic rent was 100 €, we're talking about eight times the actual rent—that's insane! What a horrible experience! Now I understand all the negative reviews that Wheego has received and can only recommend: Don't fall for these scam artists and get your car from a different car rental company. Wheego- never again!!!!!
I did rent a car at wheego in Dubai
I did rent a car at wheego in Dubai. Payed a deposit of 2100 dirham and never got it back. No contact from wheego
Avoid Avoid wheego
Avoid Avoid wheego at East Midlands. I was contacted by wheego just as I was boarding my flight. I confirmed that I would be late and that i still wanted the car. When i landed i phoned to advise that i would be with them very soon. Wheego told me that my booking was cancelled. They left me stranded without a car at night in the rain. THEY WILL NOT ISSUE A REFUND.
This company is an outright scam
This company is an outright scam. They handed over the car with visible scratches and marks already on it, failed to properly document the vehicle’s condition, and then later used those same pre-existing damages as an excuse to keep my deposit.
This is a deliberate and dishonest tactic to take money from customers. It is completely unethical and, frankly, feels like a setup from the start.
Do yourself a favor: never use this company under any circumstances. Take your business elsewhere unless you want to risk being unfairly charged and dealing with a company that clearly does not operate in good faith.
Rip off merchants
Rip off merchants. I was made to pay 200 pounds insurance as I picked up the car. The reason given was that my credit card had first initial and surname on it rather than full first name.
Absolute Scam Company
Absolute Scam Company. Returned car with no damage, took photos. They have now claimed damage on the car and are working with a third party debt company that keep adding charges. You cannot pay by card only transfer. Not worth the legal fees to pursue so having to pay over 700 Euros. Avoid like the plague!!! DO NOT USE! DO NOT USE! DO NOT USE!!
Very good experience and excellent service.
It was a very good service, well priced. we book the car from Marrakesh airport, unfortunately they don’t have an office at the airport but they will come and pick you up and take you to their office where you will find your car ready.
Mr. Lahcen was very welcoming and very helpful, it was an excellent service and experience, I highly recommend Wheego Car rental company in Marrakesh.
Borderline scam
Check in took almost 2 hours from arriving at the office to getting the keys. The credit card deposit required was extreme (£1600!!!) and the clerk advised it is common practice to keep this deposit for 2 months after car return (not the card details, the actual money). Upon drop off the clerk refused to acknowledge, sign or provide any form of paperwork that the car had been returned correctly fueled and without damage. When I asked for some sort of proof the clerk me called rude. I am still waiting for my deposit to be returned. The car itself worked though
Still waiting for my deposit to be returned
We returned the car on 29th of January as if today 15th of March we haven't received the deposit back
We have sent several emails requesting updates
