Excellent communication from Patrick. He explained all the legal jargon and informed me of my cases progress in a timely manner. I highly recommend Patrick and Simpson Millar.
Headline: Unprofessional, condescending, and incompetent "first contact" service.
Review:
I contacted Simpson Millar regarding a serious legal matter involving defamation, GDPR breaches (Article 16), and professional harassment. Despite providing a clear, 10-point brief outlining the legal violations, the experience was a total disaster.
The intake staff is clearly untrained and lacks the basic manners required in a legal environment. I was met with constant interruptions and a shocking lack of professional etiquette. When I tried to explain the gravity of the situation, the representative—who was raising his own voice—had the audacity to tell me to "calm down." This is the pinnacle of condescension and gaslighting, especially when dealing with a client who has a well-documented case.
If you are looking for a firm that understands "Duty of Care" or knows how to treat a professional client with respect, look elsewhere. They seem more interested in "gatekeeping" than actually understanding the legal merits of a case. A firm is only as good as its first point of contact, and currently, it feels like a call center run by teenagers who don't understand the law or customer service.
Avoid if you have a serious case and expect to be treated like a human being.
Simpson Millar helped me through a very challenging time after my Injury at my previous work space. Thankfully, with a team of highly qualified professionals at SM such as Kareemah Chunara and Amy Baker, I received first class legal advice and got a very good settlement offer for my injury which I never expected prior to meeting them. The percentage for the winning fee was also fair as they did not take more than 25%. I am forever grateful for their help and professionalism

Honestly from my first call. - the main number on the website, I am not even sure I spoke to someone at a law firm. The gentleman answered, just saying hi, and I had to claify if I was actually speaking to Simpson Millar. He sounded like he was in the middle of another task. I then explained I was seeking advice through legal aid about a potential judicial review. I was then put on hold, and then the man came back and said his manager said, they don't deal in civil cases.
To quote their wesbite, 'Our team of lawyers are very experienced in holding public authorities to account.'
This includes 'Local authorities and social housing providers'
So I'm not sure what happened there, still not sure I spoke to someone really at the firm, and apparently they don't do what they claim to do, and the guy on the phone couldn't have cared less about learning what the case actually was or who is was about.
Waste of time.
Edit: I received a prompt for more information under threat this review may be taken down if not provided. To be clear, no one can authenticate my name, email or reference when the individual did not care to ask any of that information or provide a reference. You cannot be in a system if you are not put in it in the first place.
A brilliant service from start to finish, would highly recommend.

Great company, and great staff who know what they are on about, great communication. if I wanted to get hold of anyone they was always a phone call away throughout helping me with my questions.

Contacted to arrange getting representation for and EHCP and Sen tribunal
The guy on the phone literally had no idea.
I'm 49 - asked if the EHCP was for me.
Asked me to tell him about it - I asked what he wanted to know he put me on hold and came back asking what the EHCP was.
I advised I won't be asking Simpson Millar for representation based off that call and terminated the call.
Massively disappointing for a firm that are supposedly experts in this area.
Although the appointment of a solicitor is a precursor to a rocky road, Simpson Millar have been fantastic. They were thorough, kind and totally compassionate. Primarily I dealt with Emma Hickey who I cannot thank enough for her time and effort, support and advise. My case took several years to finalise due to the complications involved and Emma was always there for updates, had time to explain everything probably more than once and never made me feel anything but totally looked after. I can't thank them enough

Firstly I was given a time for a call back which didn’t materialise and then the person I eventualllynspoke to asked one or two questions and then decided that the doctor who did not read a histology report and as a result my cancer was left untreated for 14 months, was not negligent. Who am I to argue.

Review of Simpson Millar Solicitors
Rating: ★★☆☆☆ (2/5)
Positive Aspects
Simpson Millar undertook my case when numerous other firms declined, which I acknowledge and appreciate. They remained engaged throughout a protracted and complex process. The instructed barrister, Jonathan (KC), was measured, articulate, and professionally competent in his advocacy.
Negative Aspects
Notwithstanding the above, my experience was fundamentally unsatisfactory. I was compelled to assume a disproportionate degree of responsibility for my own case, including scrutinising documentation and rectifying recurrent errors that could have materially prejudiced the outcome.
There was a notable lack of transparency regarding medical expenses. I was explicitly led to believe that such costs would be borne by the defendant; instead, they were deducted from my settlement. Had accurate advice been provided, I would have pursued NHS treatment and avoided incurring approximately £35,000 in unnecessary expenditure.
Concerns regarding judicial impartiality were neither adequately addressed nor escalated. Statements made in court suggested clear bias, yet requests to challenge this or seek reassignment were disregarded. The same judge presided over subsequent proceedings, undermining confidence in the fairness of the process.
The valuation of my claim was communicated only two days prior to the round table meeting and had been substantially diminished without sufficient justification. I was advised against litigation on the basis of anticipated judicial hostility, effectively compelling acceptance of a markedly reduced settlement.
Case preparation was, at times, disorganised and executed with undue haste, with critical documentation finalised at the eleventh hour. This lack of procedural rigour further eroded trust.
Financially, the outcome fails to reflect the true extent of my losses, particularly in relation to my business, which was generating significant monthly income prior to the incident. The restrictive interpretation of self-employment duration resulted in an inequitable assessment of loss.
More broadly, I felt unsupported in relation to the wider personal consequences of the case. There was no meaningful pursuit of accountability against those responsible, nor any substantive challenge to systemic failings encountered throughout the process.
Conclusion
While Simpson Millar’s willingness to accept the case is noted, the overall handling suggests a prioritisation of expediency and fee recovery over the pursuit of a fully equitable outcome. After eight years of litigation, the resolution achieved does not, in my assessment, represent a just or proportionate result.

Advertise legal services that they don't actual offer, causing people to make enquiries but in reality wasting peoples time.

The injury that I sustained in April 2023 was somewhat distressing and painful to say the least. This company was generous with their time showing much care and compassion.
Shazia Ahmed, my solicitor was so professional from the very beginning, she was so knowledgeable in her field and able to guide me through a process that would make me feel very calm, supported and understood.
My best interest was at the forefront, never forcing anything that I was not comfortable with but instead communicating, updating, and seeking my thoughts and feelings whilst explaining all legalities that would serve me in the end. Everything that would affect the outcome of my case was explained in great detail by Shazia in a fashion that I could fully understand thus allowing me to make informed decisions with exceptional guidance.
I highly recommend this outstanding company Simpson Millar.

My experience with Simpson Miller was certainly a rocky one until I got passed on to Shazia. Shazia has been absolutely incredible since taking over my case from the 3 people before her. Her professionalism and ability to build a report with clients made the process more pleasant and comfortable. Her communication was always in a timely manner and no question was a hindrance to her. I appreciate the time, effort and kindness that Shazia put into my case, and I would recommend her to anybody. Thank you so much for everything Shazia, you have been nothing short of amazing.
