About Vets Now
Pet emergencies can happen at any time – including when your regular vet is closed.
That’s why our nationwide network of out-of-hours pet emergency clinics are open through the night, at weekends and on bank holidays, so we’re ready and waiting to provide expert pet emergency care when your regular vet is having some time off.
Our pet emergency clinics are the pet equivalent of A&E and our purpose is to give you and your pet the care and support you deserve, at the time you need it most, whether it’s four in the morning or in the middle of Sunday lunch.
Vets Now provides this trusted service to more than 1000 veterinary practices across the UK — from over 60 dedicated out-of-hours clinics and two 24/7 pet emergency hospitals. In total, we treat around 200,000 small animals every year — our highly-skilled team works hard throughout the night, weekends and Bank Holidays. So whether you’re in Aberdeen, Belfast or Portsmouth we’re there for you and your pet when you need us most.
We’ve also pioneered other ways to help pets, pet owners and the veterinary profession, such as our comprehensive referrals service and providing our staff with industry-leading training and development opportunities. We also support the pet blood transfusion charity, Pet Blood Bank UK. Meanwhile, our two hospitals — in Glasgow and Manchester — are home to some of the UK’s leading specialists in the field of emergency and critical care and provide care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Brilliant treatment at 6.15 a.m on a Sunday morning
I rang at 6.15 a.m. on a Sunday morning with my cat suffering an infected abscess which had burst. I was immediately invited to bring him into the clinic where he was treated promptly and we were treated with kindness. I couldn't fault the excellent service we and our cat received, I was amazed to find a vet on duty at that hour of the morning on a week-end. We arranged a follow-up with our regular vet for the Monday and all our notes and record of the treatment had been passed through efficiently. It was expensive, but we have insurance, and I cannot recommend the service more highly.

Saviours…
Rushed my young SBT girl in with suspected womb infection. Reception staff and vets were amazing, very caring and explained everything clearly. There is no doubt the cost is high, however so was their care. Without their prompt attention Freya may not be snoozing on the sofa next to me today. Thank you.

My cat was worse off after the visit
I felt the vet (who I found unprofessional and cold) was pressuring me to take a blood test, in spite of saying the regular vet had just taken one 10 days ago and we would return to our normal vet in the morning, when she couldn’t detect what was wrong with my cat. Then, I believe my cat was given too much medication, as she was unable to even move for 12 hours afterwards in a dazed state (despite taking anti nausea at her vets and being fine) and then having a horrifying fit in the middle of the night, that has also never happened before. Following my check-in with my vets the next morning, they agreed another blood test wasn’t necessary, so we’re booked in for a scan, but I felt this surgery in Bitterne was the extreme end of moneymakers in the vet business. Unless absolutely critical, I wouldn’t recommend.

Likes first 5 star for treatment to get our cat feeling better but giving 3 stars because so expensive. Also suggested our cat needed a consultation with more tablets next day at our own vets which is stressful for a cat going out for another trip and expensive consultation when surely emergency vet could have given enough treatment to last illness.

Avoid Using VETS NOW Like the Plague - Unhelpful post receipt of ££ and loss of Medical Notes
On day of emergency treatment of our dog they did see within short notice although Booking E-fee is a lot (before being seen) around £290, we had to wait 2-3 hours at night before our dog was seen, dog was attended very well by Vet - No problem, Issue with VETS Now ADMIN.
My sister rang up vets as emergency; invoice address to my sister and paid quickly by sister - too upset to think but we gave VETS Now our address, Waggle Pet Insurance address, Our Registered Vets address at Milbrook yet they keep on ^^&& around with us, registered Vets and Waggle in they claim they cannot find the Dog's notes or invoice of treatment on the day of visit.
Extremely disgusted and appalling by this BAD Experience (Especially case of companies needing to maintain accurate information - GDPR rules seem to be broken / atmiss) - ADVICE AVOID PETS NOW AT ALL COSTS - AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.
TRY TO USE YOUR OWN REGISTERED VETS and if possible use 2; so if one vet practice is busy; other one can see you and your pet/s.
Best advice is to stay away and use proper Pet Insurers and vets that under take the necessary paper work and sending this to the insurer.
Best Advice is to AVOID and stay away.
UPDATE 27/10/2023 14:00 We have raised concerns about our bad experience of this company with our PET Insurer Waggle; who again has to waste their time and money in dealing with this Franchise; The Information in our opinion can be found by provided invoice and Claim Number.
Again - Avoid Like the Plague

In it for the money!!
Took my dog to Vets Now as he had swallowed the knuckle of a raw hind bone…..phoned on way to vets and all the operator was interested in was if I could afford the £258 consultation fee! Arrived at vets and the receptionist was busy on her pc. She didn’t acknowledge me and even went out the back, still without acknowledging me! She returned a few minutes later and another lady had arrived. I had sat down as my dog had been sick. She began talking to the lady so I said “Excuse me, my dog is choking here”! She said she didn’t realise I had arrived and went to get a nurse. They took my dog away and I could hear a dog crying. Thinking it was mine, I waited outside. Went back in after a few minutes and the vet called me through. She said my dog was breathing ok but they would have to anaesthetise him for x-rays but if they found a blockage, they wouldn’t be able to do an endoscopy and he would be referred to another animal hospital. It was a Saturday afternoon and I realised my own vets would be open (went to Vets Now as it was closer and I was worried). I called my vets and they said they were extremely busy and they too could only do x-rays and would have to refer if necessary. I explained it was a rawhide bone which would probably soften so I would keep an eye on him at home but would go back to Vets Now if any problems. I went back in and paid the £286.50 and said I would keep a close eye on him. Vet said he probably would need something in case his throat had been scratched and I agreed to some Metacalm. Back to the counter for another £32.11
I took my dog home and the first thing he did was scratch at the cupboard where his treats are kept. He was absolutely fine. The quote for the recommended treatment was in excess of £1500.00!! This would have been totally unnecessary and traumatic for my dog. This is the reason all the tabloids reported the extortionate UK vet prices in September 2023!

The surgery they did on my dog went well and even the healing process seems to be going great already on the second day.

My dog was vomiting blood
My dog was vomiting blood - twice in your waiting room - but we waited 2 hours to be seen. Despite charging me for an anti-sickness injection, you failed to actually administer it. To a dog with Haemorrhagic Gastroenteritis! You have refunded me, but that is an appalling failure of care on your part.
The fact that I had to drive her 45 minutes there and then collect her the next morning was unexpected and not appropriate for a very sick animal and I will be changing vets to avoid this happening in the future. The cost of the care she received was astronomic. My initial gratitude that she could be seen in an emergency has been eroded by the failure to administer a basic requirement (the anti-sickness medication) and the extreme cost.

Excellent service but expensive
Very customer focussed. Great attention to my cat. Always happy to answer my calls for updates. But hugely expensive unfortunately when there’s no other option for my animal’s care.
