About Vets Now

Pet emergencies can happen at any time – including when your regular vet is closed.

That’s why our nationwide network of out-of-hours pet emergency clinics are open through the night, at weekends and on bank holidays, so we’re ready and waiting to provide expert pet emergency care when your regular vet is having some time off.

Our pet emergency clinics are the pet equivalent of A&E and our purpose is to give you and your pet the care and support you deserve, at the time you need it most, whether it’s four in the morning or in the middle of Sunday lunch.

Vets Now provides this trusted service to more than 1000 veterinary practices across the UK — from over 60 dedicated out-of-hours clinics and two 24/7 pet emergency hospitals. In total, we treat around 200,000 small animals every year — our highly-skilled team works hard throughout the night, weekends and Bank Holidays. So whether you’re in Aberdeen, Belfast or Portsmouth we’re there for you and your pet when you need us most.

We’ve also pioneered other ways to help pets, pet owners and the veterinary profession, such as our comprehensive referrals service and providing our staff with industry-leading training and development opportunities. We also support the pet blood transfusion charity, Pet Blood Bank UK. Meanwhile, our two hospitals — in Glasgow and Manchester — are home to some of the UK’s leading specialists in the field of emergency and critical care and provide care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Be prepared to empty your wallet

Vets now in Lincoln have monopolised the area so there is only one vets left that offer their own out of hours service. We cannot change vets as then we will be servants to this egregious, overinflated fee.

That means if you are with the one vets who haven't sold out to Vets Now, you are bound to them (which has its own issues, hence trying to research another veterinary practice) unless you are prepared pay the extortionate fee of over £300 for an out of hours appointment, which is usually an emergency.

They say it's 'more expensive to run an OOH' but in Lincoln they use an existing vets, so the equipment/premises etc is already set up. There is absolutely no need to charge that much unless you just want to line your own pocket.
People in Lincoln don't have a choice, it's either them, or Medivet who are exactly the same.
They are capitalising on the fact that when it's 11pm, and your fur baby is sick, you need them to be seen and be made better. What else are you supposed to do, watch them in pain till 8.30 the next morning?
And this isn't just the cost of having a pet. They abuse the fact we are beholden to them.
Something needs to be done to stop this process and bring it back to actually caring about animals, not about increasing their bank balance.

Hi Ann, thanks for your feedback on the cost of our service. As you have mentioned, it’s a lot more expensive to run an after-hours emergency vet service. The greater running costs we incur are reflected in our prices. Kind, thoughtful and caring staff.

The staff were compassionate and understanding from the moment we walked into the clinic.
We took Blitz in and found out he had an incurable heart condition from the vet and they explained everything to us and gave us all time with him before they sadly had to put him to sleep.
I can't thank the vet and staff who were there Saturday night for listening to us and letting us say goodbye.
They even did paw prints for us to take home with us.
Thanks so much for making a hard goodbye bearable for my son and family.

Helpful and friendly when we were extremely worried.

Everyone at Vets now were very helpful and friendly. At a stressful and worrying time, they were informative and supportive. This was from the reception, to the nurses and the vets. It’s good to know that they are available at weekends and nights, when we need them in an emergency. I would highly recommend.

Mixed experiences over 3 visits and multiple additional calls

My husband and I took are dog 3 times over 4 days and whilst happy with the initial trips feel the third trip was delayed due to opinions and that technology could have improved this and earlier intervention provided if the vets/nurses could see how server the second nose bleed on the Saturday night was. If there was the ability to provide photos or have a video conference I am sure our dog would have been seen much earlier during the night.

The final visit on the Sunday was lacking in professionalism in two areas. Firstly the day vet on the Sunday suddenly escalated to putting our dog down with no explanation. She may have been the only vet on and it was very busy but explanations of options are very important. We also had to raise if he was anemic due to loss of blood and she dismissed this until we pointed out how pale his gums were. There was a delay in administering clotting agents as they could not find this. We were even asked if required could we go to Peterborough to collect the medication. We are aware they eventually rang the nurse who was on night shift and she came in to locate the medication but what delay this caused we are unaware.

Delayed medical treatment is not acceptable and options should be explained. As users of your service we have to rely on the information and advise we are given so we should have everything explained to us. Likewise your vets need a full picture of situations. When you haven’t dealt with a nose bleed before and just keep getting told there will be a lot of blood it does not give context. Photos and video would have helped.

Unfortunately our dog suffered a seizure and was put to sleep. How much a delay in treatment affected this we will never know.

We have leant not to take advice at face value and to push harder when our gut tells us something is not right. Your over night staff on all occasions were doing their best and explaining things. Your day staff appeared overwhelmed and disorganised in not knowing where medication was.

Recommended to EVERYONE I know.

Gosh where do I start. From the second I rang to the second I arrived it was such a smooth process. I was very anxious and upset from my puppy eating raisins but the way the staff handled me and my dog were absolutely amazing. I saw 3 ladies, unfortunately I was too stressed to take their names but they comforted me and talked me through the process, along with being amazing with my dog. They were absolutely incredible and knowledgable and I would recommend vets now to EVERYONE. Thank you for settling my mind and dealing with the situation calmly and immediately. A very expensive two raisins consumed but I’d pay it in a heartbeat to ensure my dog is healthy and ok!!!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!

Fantastic professional, understanding and patient vets.

From the minute they answered the phone these people were helpful. Full instructions of where to go , what to do when I got there and prices. When I got to the surgery I was met by vet nurse. Straight in, very calm, listened to me, gave me excellent advice. Saw the vet, same great service. Then saw the wonderful lady who specialises in bottle feeding puppies and kittens. Gave me a full lesson and helped me feed my litter. Then gave advice for at home. I arrived a neurotic mess with a dog who had no milk after emergency c section earlier that day at a different vet with 9 puppies. Left calmer and reassured. Definitely use again and recommend.

Obscene

I think the price I had to pay was obscene £408 for a consultation and one injection , people try to do the best by there pets but prices like these are going to lead to animal cruelty as people can’t afford them . I am medically retired on a small income and I am now massively overdrawn and worried sick how I’m going to pay the bills and feed us . Please can you lower your prices for the sake of the animals. My dog’s both rescued are not insured as I can’t afford the monthly fee.

Waiting hour and a half following my cats triage whilst emergencies were being dealt with. I appreciate staff were very busy but an update on when we'd roughly be seeing a vet would have been helpful (just as my husband and toddler were still waiting in the car).
Staff very friendly and helpful just rushed off their feet.

The staff were all lovely and caring

The staff were all lovely and caring, they treated my cat, she’s much happier now, it’s a shame that they take advantage of and animal that is sick! When your vet doesn’t treat out of hours. Daylight robbery is what they charge! I was lucky to have the £313.00 consultation fee and extra for meds required! I will be looking into changing vets, looking at others out of hours fees, I expected to pay over £100.00 but definitely not over£300.00 but they have you by the B—-s when your loving pet is Ill what else can you do???
