A WASTE OF TIME 😞

Whilst browsing petsforhomes looking to find a small dog, I came across a licenced breeder selling an 8 month old female Patterdale terrier. The advert had just two photos of the sweet little dog. The first showed her bearing the tag 'mother' - the second showed the very same terrier?! I was most concerned by the appearance of her, she looked haunted, tormented and anxious, her coat was matted and bedraggled and she was sitting on a cold metal table without comfort anywhere in her surroundings. The breeder said she'd had a broken leg that had "set wrong" and the little dog was holding her front left leg up on the second photo! There is definitely something sadly amiss with her and so I rang the RSPCA and waited in a queue. The lady who answered did not sound interested and she seemed irritated by the stupid woman on the telephone - that was ME! I have photos of the terrier, the name of the breeder, his licence number and the town his business is located in but she really wasn't interested in anything I said and all she suggested was that I should contact petsforhomes which I had done already and also the local council where the little terrier was located, which again I had already done. The council had suggested that I ring the RSPCA - I told her this and she wasn't surprised, in fact everyone I contacted passed the book onto someone else! I actually cried when I hung up - that poor little haunted and traumatised dog who looks like it is in pain, has no one to save her now. I am extremely disappointed, saddened and disheartened by the lack of care shown by the RSPCA especially when the lady suggested that I should ring Trading Standards! I was under the impression that people rang the RSPCA when concerned about the welfare of an animal! How wrong was I! I can only hope that my experience with the RSPCA is a one off and that there are actually people who deal with the public there, who are kind, compassionate and who are interested in what you have to say. Contacting the RSPCA FOR ME WAS VERY UPSETTING AND A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME! 😞😞😞

We do recommend contacting Trading Standards or the local council as they are best placed to investigate low welfare dog breeders. This is because they are responsible for the licensing of breeders. They will then contact us if our support is required, but we do take calls about low welfare breeders to our cruelty line as well.

Every animal matters to us, and we’re working hard to improve how we communicate our limitations and provide guidance even when we can’t attend in person.

Terrible charity

Terrible charity. I waited 1/2 hour to speak to them and it was useless. They don’t take any action! I reported an aggressive tom cat that has been abandoned. Skinny and not neutered attacking my cat and all cats in neighbourhood. I took pitty on him and fed him in my driveway to deter him to jump in my garden and after he attacked and scratched me. It’s definitely not vaccinated and not chipped. Looking constantly for food. RSPCA asked me to catch him then they will come and get him but how can I when is so aggressive. They refuse to come and help. Useless and I will not give any money in future because they do nothing to help.

Support smaller animal charities.

Anyone who works for an animal charity will tell you that the RSPCA are useless and is disliked by other animal charities. They're the biggest animal charity in the country, and yet they often dump dogs off at smaller rescue centres.

I have just read a story where a…

I have just read a story where a beautiful fawn was caught on a barbed wire fence. The person who found it rang the rspca and just got past from post to pillar, in the end she gave up and managed to get someone else to help. All I can say is the last time I donated to you will be the last and I will be cancelling my monthly subscription too. Shame on you, your just money grabbing now, so where is the help for this fawn.

You’re letting these beautiful animals down, RSPCA

I was saddened to read the reply I got from the RSPCA after contacting them online regarding a young dog left home alone in the extreme heat two days AND two nights (so far). Not a one off, a regular occurrence, but contacted them due to the extreme heat, as have no idea of what’s available to the dog inside the flat.

Swift reply, granted, but basically as long as these five things are ticked, there’s nothing illegal about it! :-

Somewhere suitable to live
A proper diet – including fresh water
The ability to express normal behaviour
For any need to be housed with, or apart from, other animals
Protection from, and treatment of, illness and injury

It also stated no legal requirement to exercise a dog! This astounds me and it’s seriously encouraging idiots to get a dog, novelty wears off, but it’s fine as it’s legal to just keep it in the house all day. There’s no play, no stimulation, and without RSPCA carrying out a check, I’m not convinced it’s got regular food, water, remains safe and with shade!

RSPCA have always been my number one choice of charity but seriously?! This is appalling. Also the advert states (or used to) the 0300 1234 999 is 24 hours, 365 days a year, but when I decided to ring last night, after not being satisfied by the email reply, it was a recorded message saying open 8am until 6pm! I did try again first thing, but huge huge queue (no surprise) so still stressed as still no sign of owners!!!!

Tried their landlord but just a hot potato. Nobody’s interested. These beautiful animals / pets / creatures / wildlife totally rely on us. We’re letting them down, gravely.

The reality is that we’re limited by the law, which means we can only step in when animal welfare legislation has been breached, even if we might want to do more.

We want to help every animal that needs us - it’s why all of us at the RSPCA do what we do - but as a charity our resources can only stretch so far. With hundreds of calls to us each day, we have to focus our small team of officers on the most urgent cases of cruelty and neglect where an animal’s situation has been seen by the person reporting it. We know how frustrating and upsetting that can be. It upsets us too.

Our National Control Centre is open from 8.00 am until 6.00 pm each day. We don’t advertise it as 24-hour, so unfortunately it must have been another organisation’s website where you read it was.

Absolute joke

I just went on the RSPCA to report an husky left out in the baking heat all day and been dragged to the shops in this heat.
The RSPCA couldn't care less , their stupid chatbot told me they can only intervein after 24 hours.
I told them the dog could be dead in a few hours.
I was then told to take the dead dog to the vets so it's microchip could be scanned and to wear gloves and wash my hands.
This Vile organisation seem to not give a toss about Animals & only care about donations ? A dogs life means nothing to these scumbags

Reported a dog been locked in a bedroom…

Reported a dog been locked in a bedroom for over 10 hours every day. Never gets out the house it's a lurcher cross greyhound. This has been going on for over 6 months. The dog jumps up at the window and barks for hours. Reported to rspca. They replied with its not been neglected or abused but they never checked the property at all. They say for the barking contact local authorities. So basically it's ok to lock a dog up for over 6 months in a tiny bedroom without getting outside. Rspca you should be ashamed.

No help whatsoever. Rang multiple times in the day and still no update. This is exactly why animals end up dying, because the lack of communication, prioritisation and attendance is unacceptable.

RSPCA ( CrossLane ) wallasey. Are liers & will steal your cats. Not the fist time they have done this, they don’t look at the evidence nor listen to the truth they don’t care and make there mind up. Even before you say a thing. They don’t answer complaints or look at evidence just make up there mind as they want. Kay is the biggest one not looking at evidence and just, Making up her mind. Management what a joke. This RSPCA ( Wirral & Chester). Should be closed down it’s a joke of a charity. makes its own rules. Never applied the laws. Just did what it wanted. ( this case never had an inspector nor cruelty cases.). Just stupid ppl who think they no everything. RSPCA ( Wirral & Chester. Branch. And the Animals suffer!! stay away !! From this plc. Its broke its got no money so steals cats to sell on. The main RSPCA England & Wales are now trying to to take my reviews down stating there on the wrong site “ well you allow wallasey to use your name you work with this scam plc and there called RSPCA Wirral & Chester. So Your the same!! (stop them using your name then)

They won’t come out for anything

Never come out even when you send them images of proof, of a dog being left in its own mess on a 5x5ft balcony shut out day and night, starving and eating its own mess to survive. Apparently that’s not bad enough for somebody to rescue it. Shameful

They don't answer -found an injured swan and no one can help.

Called the wildlife line as found an injured swan on the side of a pavement, was not moving when approached but was very distressed and clearly not in a good way. I didn't want to leave it but can't go near it myself. I was waiting in a queue, got through to number 1, phone rang and then put back in to the queue again. This happened 3 times. How can they expect to rely on the kindness of people to call and try help save animals when they don't even want to pick up the phone.

I can assure you it’s not that we don’t want to pick up the phone as our call handlers are answering the phone line non-stop daily between 8.00 am and 6.00 pm. There must have been a technical issue just at the point you called, which is very unfortunate.

We truly appreciate you looking out for the injured swan, so please don’t let this put you off contacting us in future. We wouldn’t recommend that the public transports a swan, so it was the right thing to try and get through to us for assistance.

Call centre staff rude

Rang the call centre to report a neighbour who is keeping 10's of dogs in a kennel (unregistered, personal use) and has 3 cages of birds, around 20-30 birds per cage. Clearly hoarding animals and potentially beating the dogs as I've heard shouting, dogs crying and then silence. The dogs used to get transported in a van to a field where they were walked. Haven't seen the van in over 9 months or the dogs so I think they are in the kennels all day every day. The woman I spoke to couldn't have cared less, made me feel like I was doing something wrong for reporting, said "well how do you know the dogs are distressed." I said "I have a dog and I know what a cry for food or attention is. Those dogs are crying from neglect and often cry for hours at all different times of the day." She had a real attitude and tone of voice which came across as accusatory. I understand RSPCA are busy, but it's distressing living next to a house where they are clearly abusing animals. The woman made sure I understood she didn't think it was a priority.. sorry I didn't realise you were the judge for what animal abuse constitutes as. Wish I took her name so I could avoid her in the future as I won't let this drop. A few days after reporting, I received a phone call from a Private number (I will not answer private numbers like most people) and my phone did the automatic voicemail and someone on the line said "RSPCA" when asked who's calling... but then failed to leave a message? Incompetent to say the least

Further from the RSPCA answer to my…

Further from the RSPCA answer to my last post, why bother with your mandatory excuse email. Its pathetic, I have had to listen for a second day to a bird in distress in a drain and you couldn't care less as the time saving animals and birds would mean you cannot make your begging adverts for funds as quick.
Even the fire brigade said they can only come out if you ask them to.
Pathetic organisation, my payments have been cancelled, and I know a few other people who have agreed to stop funding you. Hopefully you will run out of funds and some can go to another organisation who ACTUALLY CARES for animals.
