Do NOT use MBNA for insurance if you…

Do NOT use MBNA for insurance if you don't have a card with them.
1. They will send you an email with a link to view you policy – if you don't have a card you can't do this
2. You can only speak to a person – I had one simple question about my policy - so far it has taken me 16 minutes – not just waiting but listening to how easy it is to do things online – which of course i can't
3. WORST customer experience for insurance EVER - avoid

If I could give zero stars I would

If I could give zero stars I would! I recently applied for a 0% credit card with MBNA and am deeply regretting it as the process has been a nightmare! It took several days to receive the link to submit my ID documents but I’ve heard nothing for days since (normally instant or 24 hours). There’s no way to track your application online and the customer service team don’t even have an approx lead time. I’ve been told it could take anywhere from 1 to 35+ days but basically they don’t know.
The alternative option they’ve presented would be to send certified physical copies of my ID documents which will cost money and take time. Ultimately I have zero confidence they’d actually be reviewed and processed given how things have been handled so far and the lack of clarity when I’ve tried to speak to anyone.
I’m not someone who normally writes reviews but I feel completely trapped in this application. There’s a hard search on my credit file but no updates. I’ve haven’t experienced anything like this when applying for credit in the past and have a very good credit history.
The customer service agents are polite enough but completely unable to help - they don’t have an explanation for why my application is stalled, can’t chase it and or give me any idea of when I might expect a decision. On my first call I was passed around multiple times despite calling the number on my own application form and everyone just seemed confused or gave slightly different information. Adding even a basic estimated wait time to their communications (e.g. could take x numbers of days for this stage) would be such a simple fix so customers aren’t just left in the dark! There are plenty of other 0% card providers out there. Please just save yourself the stress and go with one of them!!

Dreadful Extortionists

Got a balance transfer card from them. Worst decision ive ever made. The interest payments are 3x as much as Natwest charged and because my current account cocked up my initial payment ive now just had an interest charge thats not far off my monthly payment cost.

One star is too generous for these people!

How do we recognise a loan shark..

How do we recognise a loan shark company?
Particularly if dressed in banks clothing...
I am 78 years old, always have a good credit rating, never missed a payment with anybody, when dealing with a bank, people of my age have a sense of trust, if you cannot trust a bank , who can you trust?
In 2024 I borrowed £10.000 from MBNA to improve my home, repay over 24 months..
I simply expected the interest to be 5.9%
Nobody told me any different, I have 3 payments left to pay, I never calculate interest because I had trust in a bank..
Loan coming to an end I needed more home improvements and asked a different bank for a similar loan to start when this ended in three months, I was shocked to discover the other bank wanted smaller monthly payments
Now you must understand my age doesn't help me be quick of the mark, when I investigated, it was interest charges, the new bank wanted 5.9%... whereas MBNA charged me 22.9%>>. New bank £590 in total.. MBNA charged me £2.290....
I complained to MBNA who told me it was written on their terms and conditions..
They also told me to refer my complaint to the ombudsman as they are not interested.
Why are loan shark companies allowed to dress up as a bank? Is the MBNA targeting elderly people? Do the MBNA allow their personnel to take large commission payments similar to the car finance? I do hope someone in government reads this and takes appropriate action to stop this bank taking advantage of a situation.....

Experienced fraud

Experienced fraud. Reported it to MBNA. They say they cant stop transaction and I need to call them back after 15 days to make a claim. Having spent 45 minutes giving my DOB and address repeatedly I have lost the will to live.

Fraudsters WIN - so much for protecting consumers

Savings account opening refused straight off

I’d give MBNA zero stars if I could.
Applied to open a savings account with them and was refused straight away because their reference checker is Experian (credit checking agency). Clearly we don’t have enough debt for long enough to OPEN A SAVINGS ACCOUNT!!!!

MBNA Stay clear

I've had house insurance since 1978 and made two small claims many years ago dealt with in a professional manner. Made a claim last year for to MBNA and was shocked by the way my claim was treated. They send out subcontractors to access the claim and don't follow this up in a timely manner you are left to do all the running only to be lied too by the company dealing with the work who report to MBNA. I received a copy of the report to reject the claim, which stated they could not access a drainage pipe in my driveway due to a car being parked there. The pavement at the top of my drive was dug up and there was a huge hole in the drive a car could not get in the drive i had pictures to prove this MBMA were not interested they would rather believe a company telling lies so they would not pay out.
A second report was issued to the Ombudsman and the bit about the car removed after they had been caught out.
The report also stated that a section of plastic pipe would have to be replaced as the joints in the section and either worn away or were not fitted properly. Two different drainage companies were involved in this the first company who put a camera down the pipe could not find any problems and proceeded to blast the pipe with high pressure water, then along come the other company who stated there were several problems with joints. MBNA not interested in the first report. This problem ran for several weeks with holes in my driveway and MBNA doing nothing to resolve our problem. When they finally admitted we were treated appalling they offered £450 or I could go to the Ombudsman. What a waste of time they are supposed to be neutral who pays them? They declined my appeal and sided with MBNA. A phone call from Ombudsman to the company who carried out the work stated that they removed the CLAY PIPE and replaced with a plastic pvc. I have pictures to prove it was plastic. I called the Owner of the company twice who denied he said this and I requested that the Ombudsman call him to verify this. I requested transcripts of the call only to be given a written version.
The moral of this despite the workers telling lies and proven to be lies MBNA and the Ombusdman are not interested.
Our Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) framework is developed around the core six outcomes set by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). By placing our clients at the centre of our business ensures that fair outcomes are achieved.
When I asked several of the MBNA employees about TCF they did not know what I was talking about.

Dreadful customer service for even simple tasks. Avoid.

If you have a choice of pre-approved balance transfer cards avoid MBNA. The "pre-approved" transfer failed twice, setting up a DD payment took days of navigating their stupid app messaging system. If you can get past the ridiculous AI bot, staff take time to respond, then if you don't respond immediately they close the chat and you're back to square one. The phone lines are office hours only, it takes over 14 minutes to jump through all the hoops to get to a waiting time, which is always over 20 minutes. So you need at least half an hour and honestly, I've never managed to get through. Not least, I work for a living and don't have time to waste on their inability to adequately resource customer service. The app is a mess, constant issues, logs you out if you take a breath, nothing is intuitive. Truly. Avoid.

Mbna keep offering interest free…

Mbna keep offering interest free balance transfers but when you request them it all gets accepted but never reaches your account. Today account was suspended but mbna refused to reinstate it or give a reason for its suspension. They also wanted customers to wait 20 minutes before answering phone. They also refused to give me CEO email or pass me to their manager.

Do not take out a Loan

I have had a loan with them since Dec 2024 and wanted to increase my monthly payments now I am in a better financial situation. However, the app is just stupid. You cannot do anything if you have a Loan account. Want to increase DD amount, call the number, need to view info about you account, call the number, any additional info... Call the number.

The chat bot is useless. I asked to get put through to someone and they said they don't help and you guessed it... I need to call the number. I asked if the Loans team have a more accessible option for contacting like emailing if they don't use the chat and was told no you can only call them. The app is just useless and online access is the exact same. I have another car loan with a different company and I can do everything in the app... Like why can I not adjust stuff for my loan. I can't even make a one off payment. It gives you random bank details in the app to send money to but when I went to send with Bank of Scotland. It came up with like 10 different accounts and just felt sketchy. Cause you know if you send it to the wrong place it would be your own fault. Also it is well known that you should not bank transfer funds for paying off loans? This should be a payment feature within an app... An app MBNA seem to not be able to develop or use.

Sad MBNA Europe fallen so far

Sad MBNA Europe fallen so far. Waiting for chatline response for over 25mins, and then told not to worry about the fact I had an overdue payment due on my account when in fact I had paid by the required time. It seems they have a minimum payment now of £25 which was not an issue but my account still shows £4.81 due. The agent said this was just an automated reminder but I felt the agent was an automated robot as not addressing my questions or solving the issue. I feel MBNA installed some new AI or software and, as we see in many locations now, awful customer service that does not match a real person dealing with any problems that occue. Very frustrating when a phone call to a real person would rectify things immediately and we could all get on with our lives.

do not get a credit card with this company

i have had my credit card cloned. there is a transaction on it that i have not done and they are refusing to do anything about it. after reading a few of the other reviews i have come to the conclusion this is an inside job. so many people are complaining about unauthorised transaction and them doing nothing about them only screams someone inside the company is doing this.

STAY AWAY FROM THEM OR YOU WILL BE CONNED.

APALLING SCAM-ENABLERS

APALLING SCAM-ENABLERS! Zero customer care or recognition of what constitutes Fraud. I have been fighting for almost 3 years to get back payments taken by scammers which I highlighted to MBNA BEFORE they were taken but which they enabled not once - but TWICE! Cost me £100s & hours of wasted time trying to explain to these deliberate dimwits what constitutes Fraud but all they do is obfuscate until you give up. DO NOT TRUST MBNA!
