Today, I had a property viewing with Kelly McDermott and it was a very positive experience. Kelly was very professional and had a warm approachable personality and was able to answer any questions I had about the property and also advised me to visit Monton itself to get to know the area. Very much recommended!
Great service. Mainly Sam from Thornley Groves who is a great professional with amazing service.
We chose Thornley Groves (Whitworth Street) out of convenience when selling our city centre apartment, as they already had our details and photos. Unfortunately, that convenience came at a high cost.
Their fee was 2% (£7,700), which is significantly higher than local alternatives. Julie Twist quoted 1.25% (~£4,800) and Reeds Rains 1.2% (~£4,500), while Purplebricks offers a flat £999. When I raised this, the response was simply “you’ve signed” and “we’ve met our obligations,” with no real justification for the price difference.
Communication was poor throughout. Calls often went unanswered, voicemail was full for a period, and emails were slow or ignored. The only consistently prompt responses were out-of-office replies.
One example: our buyers contacted Thornley to say our balcony door had been left open (the property was vacant). This took over a month to be passed on, and when queried, they claimed to have emailed earlier—though no such email was received. When I asked for details, I received an out-of-office reply and no follow-up.
For a fee of nearly £8,000, I expected a more responsive and proactive service. Based on this experience, I would recommend comparing other local agents before proceeding.
Had Kelly McDermott show me around a property today, really knowledgeable, friendly and personable. One of the best estate agents I've met. Would definitely recommend!
Sam Haynes from Manchester Vimto Gardens branch is fabulous! We previously had someone who was impossible to get hold of but since we have been assigned Sam everything is dealt with quickly and efficiently and nothing is too much trouble. He’s great!
Clear information and new tenant found very quickly.
Amanda and Karen were great.

I’ve had a decade worth of excellent property management with Thornley Groves.
After a plumbing issue with my property, Thornley Groves helped throughout the process of rehousing the tenants and organising repairs. Its property relationship manager (Daniel Garlick) contacting me with updates throughout the process.
Their friendly staff and expedient updates helped alleviate the stress and difficulty at this time. It’s only when something goes wrong with a property, that you realise how important it is to have a good management company.
I thoroughly recommend Thornley Groves to any landlord needing property management.
Great service received from Aleya , Many thanks

Ellie Milnthorp provided an excellent viewing. She was helpful and anything she didn't know she provided answers to in a follow up email. Thank you for your help!

I'm honestly not sure things could have gone any worse with Thornley Groves. I couldn't recommend them less.
Notice how most of their positive reviews come from landlords or people selling their house. Valuing the people who pay them the most makes sense in some essences but not taking care of all stakeholders shows what kind of company they are.
The staff in their Didsbury branch were nothing other than rude and unprofessional. First of all telling me the wrong time for a viewing in the initial stages. All three times in was in their branch it was as if I was asking for something entirely outside of their remit - the staff were not welcoming and felt like I was interrupting something each time. It was a horrible experience. There was a real sense that I had been talked about when I dropped off my keys as as soon as I said which property it was for Sophie's attitude changed and she was very dismissive, not so much as a thank you or goodbye. It was highly unprofessional.
My property manager Daniel Garlick was a nightmare to work with as well. Never contactable on the phone when I was trying to have issues resolved. His story was only straight when it supported his warped version of events. I've never come across anyone less sympathetic to a situation - everything was my fault, apparently including structural defects to the building...
There were multiple times where he claimed something to not have happened and then came back to say oh actually sorry yes it did and generally it was sloppy and all over the place.
His unprofessionalism shone through when apparently there was no real record of the contractor who to my face told me there were structural issues with the building that needed seen to, yet apparently another contractor who I was not aware of attending my property just so happened to say the complete opposite. There was literally a hole in the wall, and the walls were about 1cm thick.
His emails to me honestly felt quite personal as if he had something specifically against me - again highly unprofessional and a terrible experience as a tenant.
I could go into far more detail about my experiences with Daniel, and none of it at all positive.
My property was disgusting when I moved in, there had been no cleaning done yet I got charged for a cleaning fee for leaving it in a much better condition and incredibly clean state. I genuinely wish I hadn't bothered.
On two separate occasions I had people in my flat without me and no permission or notification. I also had Daniel asking me for a landlord visit with 1 hours notice which is highly unacceptable.
The fact I was also charged £500 to release my contract is also a bit of a joke but I know that is more self inflicted. I had asked if I was able to find my own replacement tenant but apparently this was not an option.
Overall, in all of my years of renting - this is the lowest of the low in terms of experiences. I don't have a single good thing to say about Thornley Groves and honestly I'm so happy to never have to bother with them again, I really hope that this review sends potential tenants in any other direction.

I have had a particularly great experience with Kaja Iskra as my property manager, who is always quick to respond to queries and escalate any issues I raise. I have enjoyed renting my apartment with this agency and will recommend them to landlords and tenants as well. Great service!

Yet again, I can only reap praise on the staff of Thornley Groves , Prestwich.
From the day I informed the Prestwich branch I was losing a tenant, and giving them a move in date for potential tenants, they were on it. Great photo's, great write up on the property, and shifting through the applications, veiwings, and faultless communication, with speed, and professionalism.
I now have a tenant, happily settling in, thanks to the hard work, of Karen and Amanda.
They care, and their work is simply faultless.
5 stars girls, and we'll done.
Phil

I’ve worked with multiple property managers over the years, and I can honestly say I’ve been very impressed with Michael Richardson.
I was genuinely surprised by how quickly he responds and gets things done. Communication has been clear, professional, and consistent throughout, which makes a big difference.
It’s rare to find someone this proactive and reliable in property management, and it’s definitely been a positive experience working with him.
Highly recommend.
