Sixt Dun Laoghaire I'll be back!

I rented a car for 4 days from Sixt Dun Laoghaire. It was my first time ever using Sixt and I can honestly say I will definitely be back to use them again. The booking process was very easy and when I arrived on the nominated day to collect the car I was greeted by a very pleasant and courteous staff member called Stephen who was very helpful and had my booking reservation at hand, keys ready and car waiting outside. He gave me all the information I needed and it was a very easy and quick process. The car was first class and after the 4 days I handed back the car after filling the tank with petrol which took very little and the keys without any hassle at all. I would have no hesitation in recommending Sixt to rent a car to anyone and it worked out very reasonable for the 4 days. Well worth the money!

Picked up our rental in Dublin and the whole process was smoother than a perfectly poured pint of Guinness. The team were friendly, helpful, and had us on the road in no time. The car was spot on and didn’t miss a beat while we explored Ireland. From one happy Aussie family, cheers for helping make the trip easy. Sláinte! 🇦🇺🍀🚗

Dublin airport car hire

Met Kevin at the desk at Dublin airport who explained everything that I needed to know regarding the car and the Insurance policy I had taken out.
As we had extra bags and our children are 21 and 18 he gave us a 'upgrade' of car.
Picking the car up was easy after we'd taken a short bus ride to the collection/drop off area.
The car itself was a 2025 Audi Q2 in white, the car itself was in good condition with the odd scratch and missing paint, but nothing that was detrimental to the car or SIXT.
I really enjoyed driving this car, although the back of the car was a little cramped for my daughters who are 5 foot 10 and 5 foot 8 respectively.
The car ran well and was very good on fuel.
A petrol car doing 50+ to the gallon was a bonus.
Drop off was easy, with an email sent to me within 30 minutes to say the car had been checked over and accepted back into the fleet.

Ireland photo trip

My wife and myself, along with another couple we were traveling with, rented a car from Sixt on May 18 for our vacation trip around Ireland. When I picked up the rental car at the International Terminal 2 in Dublin, I told the female agent that I was planning to return the vehicle with a full tank of petrol as I always do. She proceeded to tell me that it would be far better to just return it without filling it up as Sixt would only charge the same price per liter as the petrol stations. She thus convinced me to just bring the car back and be charged for Sixt filling up the tank. To my unpleasant surprise, when I returned the rental vehicle on May 30, with a 3/4 full tank I was shocked to see the 81 Euro charge for a full tank of petrol. I went to the rental counter to review this issue but they advised me to contact customer service. I thus contacted Sixt Customer Care as directed but only got a rude response from a “Annie” that no billing concerns are addressed by Sixt.

In my view the agent at the Dublin airport was very deceptive and basically did a “bait and switch” on me, which I find very unethical. I had my wife and two friends also with me and they agreed completely that this was not what we were told. I thus see this as akin to being robbed for 60 Euro. I have also now seen other reviews of Sixt, along with Google search results, that indicate that there are very often these kinds of unresolved issues that are customers have faced.

In addition to tricking me into buying this “prepaid gas” there were also several other issues with the vehicle (Renault):
- The remote for the car was out of battery when we picked it up. We had to drive to the Sixt return to get it replaced.
- After only 20 minutes of driving a warning indicator signaled that the tire pressure was low; we went to a petrol station to fill air.
- Later during the trip the windshield wipers stopped working so we took it to a service station were the technician jiggled the cables and got it to work again.
- At one point the car wouldn’t accelerate and seemed to be only on electrical power (hybrid engine), so we had to restart it.

Thus, this rental experience was not a good or pleasant one and I cannot recommend renting from Sixt. I am sure Sixt representatives would state that I should have read the rental contract details more carefully to find the bait-and-switch there, but I did not expect to be dealing with unethical and deceptive Sixt staff at the airport.

Absolutely appalling experience from…

Absolutely appalling experience from the very beginning.

The problems started the moment we arrived. After a long flight from Canada, we were pressured into purchasing additional unnecessary insurance and felt as though we were being taken advantage of before our holiday had even begun. Instead of a smooth pickup process, we were left delayed and frustrated at the start of what was supposed to be a once-in-a-lifetime trip.

Things only got worse from there.

I flew from Canada for a 7-day trip to Ireland and ended up losing nearly 2 full days of my vacation because TWO separate Dacia Jogger rental cars broke down. Not one vehicle—two. The fact that a replacement vehicle also failed raises serious questions about the quality, maintenance, and reliability of the fleet.

A trip like this costs thousands of dollars and takes months of planning. Instead of enjoying Ireland, I spent my time stranded, dealing with breakdowns, waiting for assistance, rearranging accommodations, changing plans, and dealing with the stress and frustration of not knowing whether the next vehicle would actually make it to the destination.

Losing almost a third of a one-week holiday because of rental car failures is completely unacceptable. The breakdowns didn’t just cause inconvenience—they robbed me of valuable vacation time that I can never get back. No refund can replace missed experiences, cancelled plans, and the disappointment of watching your holiday disappear while waiting for roadside assistance.

The most shocking part is that this happened twice. One breakdown could be considered bad luck. Two breakdowns in the same week points to a much larger problem. Being pressured into extra insurance, then being supplied with two vehicles that both broke down, is beyond unacceptable.

I left feeling angry, disappointed, and completely let down. What should have been an unforgettable tour of Ireland became memorable for all the wrong reasons. This was, without question, the worst rental car experience I have ever had, and I would strongly advise others to think twice before booking with this company.

I have used Sixt many times but they truly let me down this time round. I usually rent a 9 seater to lead a group. I had my van booked and when I showed up on the morning. They said they had none available. The offered a smaller car but as I had 7 persons with luggage. I had to scramble and search and had to pay twice as much as my original booking.

Outstanding experience at Sixt Dublin City Centre (Dublin 1)! From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed by Alba, who was incredibly professional, warm and helpful. She made the whole process smooth and pleasant, answering all my questions with a smile.

The car itself was in perfect condition — clean, recent (2026)and truly exceptional to drive throughout my stay in Ireland.

I highly recommend this agency, both for the quality of the service and the dedication of the team. A big thank you to Alba and the entire Sixt Ireland team!

Great experience

Although we arrived six hours later than scheduled, we received nevertheless the car of the category we booked. The agent at the station was very friendly and helpful. The car itself was good and we enjoyed it. Thanks again and we will be back with Sixt for sure.
