Hertz Jimmy Hertz Dublin good job
The initial agent who dealt with me at the office was very accurate. His attitude made my feelings much better I’ve had before. However I don’t speak English very well, he was very helpfull and patient.
The car (Renault Clio) was prepared perfectly. During all the time I had used it, I hadn’t any problem.
The crucial point, I’d like to draw attention at is the Jimmy, the employee of the Hertz Car Hire Dublin, who received the car. Despite my tireness and confusion caused by my travel, he was very understanding. Apart from receiving the car he gave me tips how to get to the airport and my hotel. It’s the attitude worth a lot.
One thing is the conclusion: I highly recommend Hertz Car Hire Dublin Airport. I’ll always use their services.
Michael from Poland (using this service for the fifth time)

Booked a Skoda Octavia car for 5 adults…
Booked a Skoda Octavia car for 5 adults and luggage, was downgraded to a Kia Niro which can't take 5 adults and their luggage.
Car had done 3 hours driving and 100kms since last refueling when I picked it up.
A 2 year old car with 64,000 kms
Lots of damage, not all on vehicle condition report.
Asked for charges to be in euro at booking and pickup. Charges were made in GBP£ at a very poor rate. This was resolved quickly.
Clodagh at customer service not interested in least, after stating that a Niro is a larger car than an Octovia with nothing to back it up, no reply on downgrade and 3 hours & 100kms before pickup.

Further to my recent reviews
Further to my recent reviews, Hertz have investigated my complaint and the outcome is that their dishonest employee added an undisclosed upgrade fee of £200 to my rental agreement- which I unwittingly signed, after being handed this and told this was just to sign to confirm I wished to waive the additional insurance cover. My error in allowing myself to be distracted by their ‘friendly’ conversation and for not checking the small print on what I signed- but please all customers be aware not to use this company as this is the second time this scenario has happened to one of my family members. Use them at your peril and if you do, check every document carefully- the additional 10 or 15 minutes this will take you will potentially save you hundreds of pounds. Better still, don’t use them (Hertz or Thrifty) and go to their more honest competitor in the hut next door!

Do not use Hertz in Ireland
Do Not rent from Hertz in Ireland! They are a franchise and the branch at 157 South Circular Road in downtown Dublin intentionally gave ame a car with a bad clutch. I drove under 1 mile and the car caught fire!
I drive a stick-shift Porsche in Los Angeles and know well how to drive a manual car. The roadside assistance person told me when I initially called, that Hertz has had nothing but problems with the clutches on this particular car model ( VW SUV). I had to go out to the Dublin airport to retrieve another more expensive car.
Upon returning of that car, Hertz said they would email me the receipt, which they never did, instead they charged my America Express for the replacement clutch on the first vehicle. Be very careful as these franchise store see Americans and particularly America Women, as idiots. They didn’t realize I was the President of the company! Hertz Corporation in the US has been of no help yet this pulls down their overall business name as I, nor any of my staff, will ever rent from Hertz again unless this is resolved. This practice of incorrectly billing clients for their fleet of cars with bad clutches and who knows what else has to stop. Stay away. And you can bet the Hertz Board in the US is going to hear about this, as evidently others have had the same experience.
Use Hertz, avoid Europacar
We had hired a car to be collected at Kerry Airport from Europacar and when we arrived on Friday afternoon they were closed!
We called the “support number” several times only to be diverted to a “sorry we can’t help you” message.
Hertz Location Manager Derek Coffey came to our rescue and could not have been more accommodating and supportive. He was polite, friendly, helpful, an engaging which is a credit to Hertz.
In future we will only use Hertz and intend on sharing this experience with anyone and everyone we know.
Great for Hertz, bad for Eurocar…

Bought a car from Hertz Limerick last week and dealt with Peter King. Top class and couldn’t meet better. Seamless experience thank you for all your help Peter.

Our flight arrived at 11:40pm by the time we got to the desk while waiting for the person in front of us it went pass midnight were we charged an extra €30 plus vat because it went pass midnight even though we found out later that loads of other flights had been delayed this was a very cheap trick to pull on customers I definitely won't be using Thrify or hertz again|
massive insurance cost and terrible attitude
Initially my holiday broker - flight centre booked us in for a manual car (even though I had stated auto on 3 different occasions and she said (don't worry about what the paperwork says I will fix it) so I tried to get the car upgraded to auto ... The cost was massive and my credit card bounced due to the totally different car with insurance which I didn't ask for. There was no compassion or concern for my plight. His attitude was total indifference verging on an attitude with a real misogynistic flavour to it. "Dont worry he said I wont rip you off".. LOL. Well he did rip me off big time. He also told me that I would need to find some airport in the middle of no where after the weekend as this rental was only going to last for the weekend. my plight I was told I had to a different. I ended up paying the cost for the original rental, getting a smaller car damaged car with a massive insurance.
I felt trapped as I needed a car to collect my Husband who had Parkinsons Disease. This didn't matter to him. Would not recommend. I would give zero stars if this was possible. Everything else about the trip was amazing
Absolutely top class
Absolutely top class. I'm always well looked after when arriving into Kerry airport.
Their staff are always super helpful
One star is a push
One star is a push. I have used rental cars several times at Dublin airport with different companies. I decided to use Hertz this time. I paid for the car beforehand and was then expecting further charges for a deposit and for petrol once we were there. Turns out they also decided to add on extra costs such as SUPER COVER £76.00 A
COMFORT PACK WHEEL/TYRE COVER £28.00 A PREMIUM ROADSIDE SERVICE £20.00. This information was not ever shared with me so on top of what I had already paid for 4 days of the rental I was charged a further £180. Avoid this place at all costs.
Hidden costs
Ordered a car for one day by phone. Asked the hire price with totally full insurance, and I got a price of €64. At the desk, I've been told that I must to pay more for the full insurance, and I must pay even more for the country border crossing. My limit was €70, but I ended with € 107. If I had known it when I was quoted, I wouldn't have hired a car.
Avoid Hertz if you don't like hidden costs.
Avoid Avoid Avoid
Hertz Ireland are a shower of corporate gob***tes that should be hauled in front of a complaints ombudsman. Like the previous reviewer, they have charged me an extra days rental, accusing me of breaching the grace period of 29 minutes.
I returned the car to Kerry airport with no post inspection by Thrifty staff ie putting keys in return box. They did not respond to requests for clarification. Because, they did not communicate effectively with me, I also incurred a late payment charge.
Therefore, avoid this ‘company’ like the plague. There are other more fair operators, even at Kerry airport
Poor vehicle quality and undisclosed post-rental charges
Hertz/Thrifty appear to operate a business model focused on post-rental charges rather than customer care.
I rented a Ford Focus as a short-term runaround. The vehicle was marginally acceptable but poorly prepared (over-inflated tyres, overly sensitive brakes). A puncture occurred mid-rental, costing me over an hour waiting for roadside assistance.
On return, I was told everything was fine. Almost a month later, I noticed nearly €400 had been charged to my credit card with no prior communication whatsoever.
When queried, I was told a puncture counts as “damage”, despite the tyres being original with 27,000 km already on them. No notification, no courtesy email, no paperwork provided unless requested.
I rent vehicles frequently and carry independent excess insurance, which thankfully resolved the charge — but that does not excuse Hertz’s lack of transparency or professionalism.
Other major rental companies do not behave this way. I will not rent from Hertz or Thrifty again.
I tried to rent a car for the Christmas…
I tried to rent a car for the Christmas period as I am coming home from Spain to visit my family at first I was told it would be €120 and then when I confirmed my booking a few weeks before I arrived it moved to €280 and then when I arrived I was told it would be €850!? I got cover insurance from a third party but then told that the insurance would not cover so they would have to put a hold of 2 grand on my account, when I told them I did not have €2000 in my account the man was rude and did not help me and I left in tears. NEVER GO TO HERTZ
Unbelievably poor experience
Unbelievably poor experience. We hired a vehicle for 2 days from Knock airport. We were told on hire the fuel was only partially full and therefore we only needed to return to that level (noted on paperwork). When we returned vehicle the office was closed and no one around to assess vehicle on return. 2 weeks later I had a large charge to my credit card. Queried with Hertz (many delays in comms) and they confirmed damage and refuel charges applied. I was not notified of this, and I also know there was no damage. I challenged this as a fraudulent claim from them, they refunded the charges but because the exchange rate had changed from when they charged, I’ve still ended up paying for damage that doesn’t exist and refuelling that we were told wasn’t necessary. Totally dissatisfied customer. Will not be using again.
Great rental experience
Great rental experience, Johnny was great and helped us with our luggage.
Predatory hidden costs, Hertz are Highway bandits.
I wish I had taken the time to read about how awful this service would be.
I showed up thinking everything was in order, only to be blindsided by hidden charges and an unexpected €4,000 deposit demand — or else I’d have to pay extra daily fees. None of this was clearly communicated in advance. It was buried deep in small print. It felt like a trap.
Worse still, the pre-existing damage on the vehicle was underreported. I was invited to take my own photos (which tells you everything), but the damage had not been documented properly. I felt totally under siege.
My experience was made unbearable by the employee's attitude. Spiteful. Cold. Dismissive. I was spoken to as if I were at fault for not reading the fine print, not as a customer asking for clarification—a wall of policy, petty power and zero empathy.
It reminded me of the worst kind of low-cost airline tactics, except this is high-price Hertz, a brand I once associated with reliability and service. Never again.
Look around. Pick a more deserving company.
AVOID!!!!
AVOID!!!!! I recently rented a car from Hertz at Kerry Airport and had a very disappointing experience. I made it clear at the counter that I did not want any additional charges and was told by Josh, the salesperson handling my booking, that the paperwork I was signing was only a security deposit. In reality, extra insurance products were added without my knowledge, more than doubling the cost of my rental.
When I later questioned the charges, Josh refused to discuss them with me and passed me off to another employee. For a company that claims to pride itself on customer service, this lack of transparency and accountability is shocking.
I returned the car in perfect condition, prepaid my booking in full, and even offered to resolve this matter by phone, but Hertz stood by charges I never agreed to. Based on my experience and the many similar complaints I have since read online, this appears to be an ongoing issue — not a one-off. Insurance scammers.
I have reported Hertz Farranfore to the CCPC. The fact you are doing this not only to locals of the area but tourists of Kerry really doesn't sit well with me so i have logged complaint with the Kerry tourism board also.

Wow wish I read all the terrible reviews first. Awful experience at Kerry airport. Guy at desk was lovely while by the way getting me to sign up for over £100 hidden charges costing more than the car rental. When I called him at later date he completely changed his tone. Completely underhand behaviour and customer service of no help whatsoever. Avoid at all costs.
