On line RAC car insurance
I have had RAC car insurance for numerous years.........The reduction in quality of service will mean that I will never use it again.
1. I renewed my policy (I was pleasantly surprised that there had been a reduction in premium) but I feel that I was fully made aware about the lack of support for advisers over the phone that I was signing up to. I have had a online policy before, but have been able to sort things out using portal/chat/phone call in exceptional circumstances. The portal does not allow you to manage your policy effectively and the chatbot tells you that you can do things which you are unable to do such such as adding additional drivers. The chat is incredibly frustrating as it doesn't tell you why you are unable to do things the chatbot tells you you can do..
2. I was charged a £20 pound late payment fee. I can't remermber if I was asked to add card details at the time of renewable. The account I used to pay has not changed at all and there was lots of available funds to pay. Because you sent me an email saying I needed to go on to the portal as you couldn't take payment. The portal doesn't allow you to make a payement independently and all the advisers on the chat say is check with your bank. The banking ap showed nothing about a declined payment and I couldn't authorise the payment. I didn't want to have another late payment or risk having car insurance cancelled so wanted to pay immediately and this was rediculously difficult.
2. I was told I could add my 18 year old son who was learning to drive as a driver for zero fee when it turns out I couldn't and would need to pay an increased premium.

Changed my car for like for like yet the policy cost doubled. Not competitive with market yet it costs me to cancel. Beware

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the increase in premium when changing your vehicle, particularly as you considered it to be a like-for-like replacement.
The price for policy changes comes directly from the underwriter. As your intermediary, we are not able to change or challenge the premium they have provided.
However, we would be happy to see if we can find a more competitive option for you. If you send us your policy details to socialresponders@bglgroup.co.uk we can review the price against the other underwriters available on our panel and see whether there is an alternative that may be more suitable.
Your case will be dealt with by BISL Limited, who arrange and administer your car insurance policy on behalf of RAC.
