Really surprised by these reviews

Really surprised by these reviews, but I've not tried to move money from my bank account to the lyk card.
I loaded it with $US and $CA and transferred any unused $US to $CA when we crossed the border.
It has been accepted everywhere in the US and Canada, tapping it like a credit card or inserting and entering pin.
I'll change the remaining $CA to € on our return home.

Waste of time I'm stuck with a card…

Waste of time I'm stuck with a card with 9 pound on it it refused a transaction in sainsburys I put 20 quid on to see how good it was I made a cash withdrawal it charged me for that and I then find out you cant take out anything less than 10 so I thought I would use it in sainsburys but it wouldn't allow I have learned by mistakes now once I find out how to empty it I'm binning it

I am unable to top up my card on the app

I am unable to top up my card using my debit card on the app. I have tung several times and it was not able to be sorted, I was told to use the website or bank transfer. I don't think that this is acceptable as if the functionality is apparent, you should be able to use it.

Really don’t understand the bad reviews

Really don’t understand the bad reviews.
Topped it up in store.
Brought it on holiday.
Downloaded app and registered it and used it within minutes. To be honest was a little worried after reading reviews and had cash as well but no need.
Have been using it all week and no trouble.
A really good card.

Lost my card so rang the lost/ stolen…

Lost my card so rang the lost/ stolen number to get a replacement card. Very long script and very bad line. Could hear lots of background noise and people laughing, this is a serious matter that i lost my card and it was not very reassuring that all the staff were laughing almost at my expense. They kept asking me the same questions and felt like we were going around in circles. Also constantly being put on hold while they send out a new card.. not sure why that was taking so long.

TERRIBLE

TERRIBLE. I HAVE AN OLD STYLE THOMAS COOK MULTI-CURRENCY CARD. I LOGGED INTO MY ACCOUNT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 2 YEARS AND I TRANSFERRED UK STERLING ONTO THE CARD TO SECURE $500 USD. I GOT NO CONFIRMATION AND NO ORDER NUMBER OR TRANSACTION NUMBER BUT THE PAGE STAYED JUST AS IT WAS. WHEN I TRIED TO LOGIN AGAIN IT TOOK ME TO A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT WEBSITE - LYK - WHICH I HAD NEVER HEARD OF AND WHICH DID NOT SEEM RELATED TO THOMAS COOK AT ALL SO I WAS CONCERNED IT WAS A SCAM. MY BALANCE WAS SHOWING AS ZERO. I TRIED TO LOGIN TO THE THOMAS COOK INTERNET PAGE INSTEAD BUT WAS AGAIN DIRECTED TO LYK WHERE MY BALANCE REMAINED ZERO. I CHECKED MY BANK AND THE MONEY HAD GONE FROM MY BANK. I CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICES ONLY TO BE PUT THROUGH TO SOMEONE WHO, POLITE AS SHE WAS, DID NOT HAVE SUFFICIENT GRASP OF ENGLISH TO BE ABLE TO ASSIST ME. I ASKED REPEATEDLY IF LYK WAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH THOMAS COOK AND SHE DID NOT UNDERSTAND OR ANSWER. SHE SIMPLY KEPT REPEATING THAT SHE WOULD TALK ME THROUGH THE LOGIN PROCESS. I ASKED TO SPEAK TO A MANAGER AND A MANAGER DID ASSIST ME, EXPLAINING THAT THE MONEY HAD BEEN RECEIVED BY LYK (WHICH IS THE NEW THOMAS COOK CARD NAME) AND THAT SHE WOULD HAVE TO LOAD IT MANUALLY AS IT HAD NOT WORKED - FOR REASONS SHE GAVE AS POOR INTERNET CONNECTION OR SYSTEM MAINTENANCE. THE WEBSITE GAVE NO INDICATION OF EITHER AND I TRANSFERRED THE MONEY WHILST SAT RIGHT NEXT TO MY WIFI ROUTER WITH A PERFECT SIGNAL. I ASKED WHAT WAS I SUPPOSED TO DO IF I USED MY 500 DOLLARS AND THE SAME HAPPENED WHEN I TRIED TO RELOAD ONCE I WAS IN THE USA. WAS I SUPPOSED TO CALL THE UK AND SPEND ANOTHER 20 MINUTES ON THE PHONE RACKING UP CHARGES. I WAS TOLD THAT THE ANSWERPHONE MESSAGE AT THE START OF THE CALL ADVISES THAT MOBILES MAY INCUR CHARGES. AGAIN, I FELT THAT THE POINT WAS BEING MISSED - PERHAPS LOST IN TRANSLATION - THAT I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO CALL AT ALL AND THAT MY MONEY SHOULD NOT BE REMOVED FROM MY ACCOUNT AND YET NOT LOAD ONTO MY CARD IN ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. FEELING THAT THE SERVICE IS RATHER SHAMBOLIC I LOOKED UP REVIEWS WHILE I WAS ON THE PHONE AND SEEING HOW DREADFUL THEY ARE I TOLD HER I WANTED HER TO REFUND MY MONEY - TO REVERSE THE TRANSACTION - I WOULD RATHER FIND A CURRENCY CARD FROM SOMEWHERE ELSE. SHE SAID SHE WAS HAPPY TO DO SO BUT IT WOULD TAKE 4 OR 5 WORKING DAYS! WHICH MEANS I WOULD HAVE NO ACCESS TO MY SPENDING MONEY UNTIL I WAS RETURNING FROM THE USA AT THE END OF NEXT WEEK. ABSOLUTELY DISGRACEFUL. I SHALL BE COMPLAINING TO THE FCA AND THE FINANCIAL OMBUDSMAN.

they took 250 pounds from me!

The card worked fine until I tried topping it up using the app. My top up attempts were all rejected. I phoned the help line on the back of the card and they told me it was due to a problem with my billing address, dispite me confirming all the information to be correct. I later found that they had taken 250 pounds from my account and not topped up my card! It took over three weeks, numerous painful phone calls, all of which over 30 minuets long with a person who spoke purely from a script and did not speak the most coherent English, several emails containing screen shots of my bank statements and a filled out disputes form, only to receive 200 of my 250 pounds back. I am still waiting to receive the 50 pounds that was wrongly taken from me over three weeks later! All communication with the customer service/help lines have been terrible. DO NOT USE THIS CARD!! If you’re offered one, RUN TO THE HILLS!

I HAD MY CARD FOR LESS THAN 7 DAYS I HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS TRYING TO TOP IT UP! (DUE TO THEIR TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES AND NOT MY INCOMPETENCE) I LOST FAITH IN IT AND DID NOT WANT THE RISK, STRESS OR DISAPPOINTMENT OTHERS REVIEWERS ON HERE HAVE HAD. I CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICES TO CANCEL THE CARD IT TOOK 20 MINUTES (MOST OF IT ON HOLD) WHILST SPEAKING TO A POLITE YOUNG GENTLEMAN THAT SEEMED CLUELESS AND WHOM EVIDENTLY HAD A LANGUAGE BARRIER THIS MADE IT A DIFFICULT TASK. EVENTUALLY MY NEW YOUNG FRIEND FINALLY CLOSED MY LYK ACCOUNT AND ISSUED ME A REFUND AND THEN I WAS INFORMED THAT I WOULD BE REFUNDED £3.70 LESS FROM MY TOTAL FOR EXCHANGE RATE. NOW I KNOW THIS ISN'T EXACTLY GOING TO BANKRUPT ME BUT BEAR IN MIND THAT THIS CHARGE HAS BEEN APPLIED DESPITE THE FACT THAT I AM STILL WITHIN THE 14 DAY COOLING OFF PERIOD THAT IS AS YOU ALL WILL BE AWARE IS THE LAW.TRYING TO PAINFULLY EXPLAIN THIS TO MY NEW FRIEND WENT COMPLETELY MISUNDERSTOOD I ENDED UP ACCEPTING DEFEAT AND WAVED GOODBYE TO MY SMALL CHARGE. Very good!

After reading about some problems, I was a little concerned. I needn't have been - it worked perfectly on all occasions ... with multiple currencies (NZD then AUD). Now I'm home, I've transferred the balance to Euros with no problems at all. Remember, when you're abroad and it asks whether your card is a debit or credit card, it's treated as a credit card. If you answer debit card, the transaction will be rejected.

Thoroughly recommended.

5 working days for your bank to send…

5 working days for your bank to send the money to lyk ‘but don’t worry we will transfer within 24hours of receiving the funds’
When abroad and you need more money, in this day in age, it should not take that long considering a bank can transfer can now take seconds! Not good!

Useless and bad customer service

Useless and bad customer service, bought my card from Thomas Cook, Southend, staff had my passport with obviously correct spelling of my surname, they inputted it wrong,

I went to log in once home as had loaded the card with euros, no luck at all, tried pc, mobile, laptop all to no luck, called customer services to be held in a queue, finally spoke to staff who said it was my fault about the spelling and I would have to go back to the branch to sort it, but difficult at 20:00 and on a plane at 06:30 the next morning.

The member of staff then said as a one off she would sort it, like it was some great favour, then she didn’t understand the fact that we don’t have Zip Codes in the United Kingdom and we have postcodes instead, she kept saying she wasn’t able to add my very much valid postcode, once again told she would do it as a favour and it was done.

Then the app had to be sorted, it seems to be from the dark ages, it didn’t understand the concept of facial recognition security on modern mobiles instead of fingerprint, cue another back and forth with them and told they thought Face ID was insecure but I was welcome to try, also that the app hadn’t been built with it in mind.

All in all a painful experience I do not wish to repeat and have parked the card out of use as too much of a hassle to use or load with currency.

Wouldn't even give it one star

Wouldn't even give it one star, avoid this card at all costs. Was charged a few euro's for using it at the atm which I don't mind but being then charged an extra TEN percent on top!! Furious to say the least!!!

My daughter was told by Thomas Cook…

My daughter was told by Thomas Cook that if if your card is lost or damaged then you will be issued a new card within 24 hours. This was not true as when she went to use her card she discovered it wouldn’t work. She rang customer services to be told that she would receive her card within 7-10 days. She had to borrow money from a friend for the first five days of her holiday. Thomas Cook say that just so you sign up as they told many of her friends the same thing. I put a complaint in but nothing has changed as a year later they are still telling customers the same thing.

Dislike this card and feel I was misold…

Dislike this card and feel I was misold this and used to make 2 withdrawals in exactly the same currency as preloaded. I was charged a fee of £1.50 per withdrawal and 10% extra to the amount withdrawn was debited from my card. This is my money and I shouldn't end up running out of currency. I would suggest avoid lyk card like the bubonic plague and just take cash. No hidden costs with cash for using your own money. I'm submitting a complaint to financial complaints authority to investigate if I've been conned out of money that was mine and asking for a full refund

I can't log into my account

I can't log into my account. This was partly because the person who issued the card got my email address wrong. Having been in to the local branch to sort it out I still couldn't log in. I rang the helpline and was told it was a temporary fault. 10 days later I still couldn't log in. The person on the helpline plainly hadn't a clue what was wrong and was guessing at answers. She then said she would phone back in 48 hours which is no use as I am going away before then. She then said she would ring back sooner but I am not hopeful. This all happened tonight 7th May 2019. I notice someone had the same problem in December 2018 so the problem has been there for 5 months! One to avoid I'm afraid. I only wish I had read the reviews before I got it, but the previous card worked fine.

poor Service
