We are very concerned about a recent…

We are very concerned about a recent purchase our son made with his Greenlight Debit card at DSG (major sports retailer). He had the funds in his spending account and the transaction was successful and shows in his Greenlight account. However, the exact same transaction for the same amount, on the same date, from DSG has posted to our checking account. Keep in mind, I was standing there when the transaction took place and my debit card never left my wallet, so how does this happen? Greenlight’s “customer service” swears it’s not possible through their service but I’ve spoken with the store and my bank and we are all at a loss. The common denominator is Greenlight because that bank account is linked to the Greenlight account. How does that even happen?

SCAM

It was great until I tried to cancel my subscription. They made it IMPOSSIBLE.

The app says to call

You call the AI says use the app

You ask for a representative they leave you in a hellish hold loop

You email with all your account info they say they can’t help you, you have to call

You text their helpline they say they can’t help you.

This is so predatory! How is it not illegal?!

Do not start a subscription with these people! Scammers.

I’ve never in my life had to spend hours moving through intentional dead ends to cancel a simple subscription.

Easy sign up - impossible exit.

Absolutely horrible experience

Absolutely horrible experience. Added my debit card as a funding source because there were issues adding my bank account. I went to put $10 on my child's card and was told there's a $20 minimum deposit and I had to add a bank account if I wanted to add a smaller amount.
When I called customer service, it was an AI bot. When I finally got someone, they were difficult to understand and kept telling me to do what I had already done. After 20 minutes on the phone, they asked if I had another bank account I could use. I was so frustrated I canceled my account.

I was charged monthly Greenlight…

I was charged monthly Greenlight subscription fees for nearly a year even though I had essentially stopped using the service after my initial transfer.

What concerns me most is that I did not receive monthly billing receipts or clear monthly email notifications that these subscription charges were continuing. Because the service was not being used, I did not realize the charges were still being deducted.

After discovering the charges, I contacted Greenlight and explained the situation. They offered to refund only one month, despite the long period of inactivity, and I have not received a satisfactory response to my follow-up request.

I understand that subscriptions can continue until canceled, but customers should be clearly informed when recurring charges continue month after month, especially when there has been no meaningful account activity.

I am posting this so other parents know to carefully monitor their bank statements even if they are no longer actively using Greenlight.

Customer service is horrible

Customer service is horrible! I tried to close the account prior to free trail and was unable. They activated the account without approval/consebt and delayed closing the account. I could not close nor deactivate the account. I was told the account was being closed however they activated the account without my approval.

Shameful billing

Shameful billing, would not recommend. Took money from my bank account without authorization. Customer service stated they will take money from any funding source you have on file for their fees. So then what's the point of the auto funding options. Unethical

Greenlight safe did not work well at all. This is not a product I would not buy. The emergency button did not always work. The fall notification was not reliable. After trying for a week and working with there helpline it still did not work as it should. They tell you the battery should last up to 4 week. We got about 2 day. We returned the unit within the 30days for a refund as advertised. They still have not issued a credit. Shame on them.

Zero fraud detection, no human customer service

The user interface is super easy to manage.

They have a partnership with Mastercard, and yet appear to have zero fraud detection. We've had it for about a month, and I just discovered 76 fraudulent transactions from similar vendors purporting to be associated with Google ("Google Telegram" or "Google*Wolf Qanawat"), and Greenlight only declined the ones above my daughter's spending money. All money is now gone, and I can't reach a human to resolve.

The concept is good but the reality is…

Concept is good but the reality is NOT. There is a monthly subscription, in order to add money to your child's account you have to upload it to your own greenlight (min of 20 at a time) to then send it to your childs greenlight. Venmo and cash app have child and teen accounts that are free. Canceled my kids greenlight and taking her money out has been a strugggggle! I am still waiting for the transfer. Had to call twice for a verification email of the funds. Not worth it.

They are the worst

They are the worst! They wouldn’t refund when my 14 year old returned an item and the merchant said they received it in writing. This is supposed to teach our children about finance when they clearly are wrong

Not worth monthly fee when now there is Free CashApp. Closing the account has been a NIGHTMARE. Good luck getting funds transferred out or back to your account and if they do it’s NOT A LUMP SUM it is credited back in the amounts originally transferred in so now my email is riddled with refunds that I have to total up - never again and USER BEWARE

Fantastic Customer service

Greenlight has fantastic Customer Service. They have immediate bots that answer simple questions in real time, but if there are questions needing further explanations or assurance, the customer service team quickly takes over. I was helped by Leizyl E., who was very thorough, quick to figure out my problem, and help me move forward confidently with my child’s new card. Thank you!

Disappointing Customer Support

Here’s a concise, effective review:

My replacement card never arrived, and when I contacted Greenlight, they refused to waive the $25 expedited shipping fee to send another one. I wasn’t asking for anything unreasonable—I just wanted the replacement card I should have received in the first place. This experience made it clear they don’t value their customers or stand behind their service. Very disappointing.

Disappointed

My grandchildren love this app, and it has a great investment program and learning tools. However, my granddaughter's account was hacked on June 11th, and I have been requesting reimbursement since then. Despite assurances, the funds have not been returned after over a month. Very disappointed it is taking so long.

This has been a Godsend for me and my family. I use it with my grandchildren. They have opportunities to earn spending money doing random stuff - and for me the best part is now they come to us and do stuff expecting nothing and that’s when they get an extra reward.
