They took monthly payment out of my 13yr old savings account charge me 2 monthly fees and I never received my son card .never again greenlight sucks.
Nonexistent support / Nobody left employed there
Nonexistent support. Yes you can text a number and an AI will respond, but you quickly reach the limit of what the AI can do and then... you're stuck. Your money is gone, your kids money is gone. No way to resolve the issue.
Practically Thieves
The customer service is absolutely terrible, if you can actually get through the multiple levels of ai agents to speak with a real person (call center). My card never arrived, but when I called to request a new one expedited, I was told the only way to send a new card in less than 10 days was for ME to pay the $25 expedited shipped cost. I was leaving the country and would not be around to receive this second card (arriving an estimated 28 days after I signed up). I asked for my account to be cancelled and any fees or deposits reimbursed and was told to "do it myself" which is impossible. I am now having to pay to have my mail forwarded and had to pay the $6 for a month when I never had a card. Someone needs to start a competitive company with legit customer service asap.
Unusable debit card
Reached out multiple times about if the card worked internationally. They said yes there are no problems with that and it is usable. Son went on a educational trip that took him through three different locations and currencies and the card would not work at any of the merchants, worked only at ATMs so he had to carry and deal with cash the whole time. Any sort of warning would of lead us to a different recommended card for the trip. When we reached out they blamed the merchants, well multiple different restaurants and shops, I find it hard to believe and across multiple different locations that it's the merchants and not this crappy companies card choice. Two stars given cause the app and chore and investing piece is great but don't rely on the debit card for your kid to have access to funds when traveling.
This app is terrible
This app is terrible. It worked ok for awhile, then a little over a month ago started allowing transactions over my child's limits and transferring funds from my "wallet" without permission. Customer service assured me an update and locking down my account would fix it. It didn't. They decided my children must be hacking my phone and allowing the transactions, even if that is not possible. We're out over $200 and they abdicate all responsibility. Useless.
My daughter’s card has been compromised…
My daughter’s card has been compromised twice in less than six months, and my experience with Greenlight has been nothing short of disappointing. The level of unprofessionalism, poor communication, and lack of accountability displayed by your customer service department is unacceptable.
Every representative seems to begin the conversation with, “Let me apologize,” but an apology without action is meaningless. What customers need are competent representatives who understand the company’s policies, communicate accurate information, and actually solve problems. Unfortunately, that has not been my experience.
I filed a fraud complaint and was assured that the matter would be handled promptly. After waiting several days with no resolution, I called back only to discover that I supposedly had not completed paperwork that Greenlight was responsible for sending me in the first place. The paperwork was never emailed. It took another complaint just to receive it, and once I finally did, I completed and returned it within 30 minutes.
Yet despite doing everything I was asked to do, my 15-year-old daughter’s stolen money still has not been reimbursed.
What’s even more troubling is the inconsistency among your representatives. One employee provides one set of instructions, another contradicts it entirely, and the customer is left paying the price for your company’s lack of training. It raises a serious question: Does anyone at Greenlight actually know the proper procedures, or are customers simply being transferred from one uninformed representative to another?
And let’s address the infamous, “May I place you on a brief three-minute hold?” In reality, that three-minute hold routinely turns into 10 or 15 minutes while representatives appear to search for answers they should already know. That is not professionalism—it is disorganization disguised as customer service.
Parents trust Greenlight with their children’s money. That trust carries a responsibility to act with urgency, competence, and integrity when fraud occurs. Instead, I’ve encountered delays, misinformation, poor communication, and a complete lack of ownership. Quite frankly, the customer service department gives the impression that it is undertrained, unprepared, and incapable of handling issues that should be routine.
The repeated apologies don’t inspire confidence. Results do. And so far, Greenlight has failed to deliver them.

Spending controls don’t work
Spending controls don’t work. The largest online retailers aren’t available for spending limits, which seems nuts. Half of the reason for having a card like this is to teach responsible backed up by limits. But the limits literally cannot be set up and support is useless.

Thought I had a free account through a bank promotion but didn't set it up correctly so was being charged without realizing it. Customer service was excellent to work with and even refunded the money from the past several months. Would recommend for strong customer service response!
Greenlight did not protect my son from fraud
My son had outright fraudulent charges totaling well over $800 to his Greenlight account, wiping out two years of allowance, birthday money, and dog walking money. Greenlight was evasive, said they could only refund up to 60 days, and refused to help further. Parents need to know that Greenlight does not have the expected safety controls or suspicious activity flags that anyone might reasonably expect. Their customer service was completely unhelpful and unresponsive. Parents beware—Greenlight is not a safe solution for minors given the increasing risk of fraud.

Their customer service is abysmal bordering on nonexistent. The customer service reps are unhelpful and cannot follow simple instructions. I would not recommend this platform to anyone who cares about their child actually being able to access their funds.
Caution for disabled community…
As a member of the disabled community and a stroke survivor, I feel it is important to caution others who may be considering doing business with Greenlight. In my experience, my disability affected my ability to properly use the web interface, and I relied on customer service for assistance. Unfortunately, I felt that my limitations and need for support were not properly acknowledged, which resulted in unfavorable consequences and charges that I believe could have been avoided.
I am sharing this review to help others in the disabled and survivor community make informed decisions. Accessibility, patience, and proper customer support matter, especially when a customer clearly needs assistance because of a disability. In my case, I felt taken advantage of rather than helped.
Too little, too late for me — but if you are considering opening an account, I would strongly encourage you to compare Greenlight with other similar services before making a final decision. Pay close attention not only to fees and features, but also to how each company supports disabled individuals, stroke survivors, TBI survivors, caregivers, and customers who may need extra help navigating the app or website.
I do not share this lightly. I made every reasonable effort to resolve this matter directly and amicably before posting anything publicly. I am not trying to discredit the company or tell others what decision to make. I simply believe people deserve to know my experience before choosing whether Greenlight is right for their family.
My hope is that other disabled individuals, stroke survivors, TBI survivors, caregivers, parents, grandparents, and guardians will ask careful questions about accessibility, customer support, fees, and how concerns are handled before opening an account. If this helps even one person make a more informed decision, then sharing my experience was worth it.
Thank you for reading, and have a blessed day, fellow survivors.
Wrong education
If you do not figure out how to completely lock down this card, it is extremely predatory. Even after deactivating our account, they are still attempting to withdraw the monthly fee. We deactivated because our children could spend beyond the amount we put on the card and they would just take the amount from the connected account. It seems more “educational” for the child’s transaction to be declined. It’s teaching them that they can spend more than they have with no immediate consequence, encouraging debt.

Super attentive service from Ray this week, very helpful throughout the process. Would recommend.

The service works well enough and the cards and children account works as advertised. The problem with Greenlight is closing your account which is EXTREAMLY difficult to do and getting you funds back one closed is potentially 6 phone calls almost 2 hours each call as it was for me. That is reason alone to stay away and look for other similar services. In this economy, hijackings the consumer's fund in the name of "verifications" is simply unacceptable. That's Greenlight.
I WILL NEVER EVER BANK WITH GREENLIGHT
I WILL NEVER EVER BANK WITH GREENLIGHT! & I WOULD HIGHLY DISCOURAGE ANYONE TO OPEN UP AN ACCOUNT WITH THIS PLATFORM! I have been dealing with a billing issue since 2024, and they REFUSE to remove my business banking account from someone else's PERSONAL ACCOUNT! I've been getting charged $5.99 since 2023 and they will NOT remove my account! I will be escalating this issue to the INDIANA ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE since they refuse to help me. I will aslo be reporting them to BBB and ANY CHANCE I GET, I WILL WRITE A BAD REVIEW ON EVERY PLATFORM I CAN FIND!!!!!!! DO NOT OPEN UP AN ACCOUNT WITH THEM! WOULD NOT RECCOMEND!

We’ve used Greenlight for over 5 years and didn’t have many issues until now. I recently cancelled my account because they are declining DEPOSITS!!! Absolutely crazy! Customer service is useless. I talked to a bot and 4 different representatives and still no resolution. It’s less hassle to just get your child a youth bank account that you can monitor. Please pass on this one. The investment and other features can be obtained other ways with way less hassle. Please do a little more research before subjecting you to this migraine of a company!
