About Vets Now

Pet emergencies can happen at any time – including when your regular vet is closed.

That’s why our nationwide network of out-of-hours pet emergency clinics are open through the night, at weekends and on bank holidays, so we’re ready and waiting to provide expert pet emergency care when your regular vet is having some time off.

Our pet emergency clinics are the pet equivalent of A&E and our purpose is to give you and your pet the care and support you deserve, at the time you need it most, whether it’s four in the morning or in the middle of Sunday lunch.

Vets Now provides this trusted service to more than 1000 veterinary practices across the UK — from over 60 dedicated out-of-hours clinics and two 24/7 pet emergency hospitals. In total, we treat around 200,000 small animals every year — our highly-skilled team works hard throughout the night, weekends and Bank Holidays. So whether you’re in Aberdeen, Belfast or Portsmouth we’re there for you and your pet when you need us most.

We’ve also pioneered other ways to help pets, pet owners and the veterinary profession, such as our comprehensive referrals service and providing our staff with industry-leading training and development opportunities. We also support the pet blood transfusion charity, Pet Blood Bank UK. Meanwhile, our two hospitals — in Glasgow and Manchester — are home to some of the UK’s leading specialists in the field of emergency and critical care and provide care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Emergency Visit

We were worried about our dog as she had a sudden swelling to the mouth and subsequently to her neck. Perhaps the result of a sting. The vet was very professional and gave her a full medical from our perspective . He administered both pain killers and a steroid. The reception staff were helpful and informative. To provide context I should add that we arrived on a Sunday evening at surgery handover. As a consequence we had to wait a long time to be seen. This seemed a little incongruous as we had arranged an emergency consultation as we were concerned that our dog may be having a severe allergic reaction.

Heroes

The vets at vets now were absolutely amazing in looking after our dog and keeping us calm when we had an emergency during the weekend. They looked after our dog and I felt safe bringing her there, and I appreciate the kindness the receptionist especially showed us while we were in a bit of a panic! I cannot thank them enough!
While we were there, we saw two other groups arrive with emergencies for their pets, and the compassion and care we saw from the vets and the receptionist was amazing. I could never do their job, they are heroes.

Took my elderly Labrador to the Huyton…

Took my elderly Labrador to the Huyton in Liverpool branch, on Friday evening late on, he had possibly consumed a hyacinth bulb as I retrieved it form his mouth, but was unsure if he had digested any, long story short they made him sick, we did not see this happen but could hear him wretching from afar, they brough him back to us, he was totally out of it from vomiting, we placed him on the back seat of the car, and began to return home, withing a matter of minutes he was violently sick bringing up kibble and hard food not water, it was everywhere , and his face was in it, he was on his tummy, and at any point he could have suffocated on his own vomit, we got home and he contined being sick which then was a mix of food and water, We feel that he should have stayed longer in the care of the vets/nurse as half an hour is certainly not enough time for a complete stomach emptying, this could have turned fatal for our Labrador as he is 10 yrs old, and I feel totally annoyed that not enough time was given to him, to make sure he had it all out, we did not mind waiting for jhow ever long, just feel lucky he didnt develop aspirate pneumonia,

Whole thing was a con

Whole thing was a con.
My dogs claw was chipped and bleeding so I panicked. They took advantage of this. They didn’t even look at where the chip was like the vet was scared of dogs. She wouldn’t even pick up his paw to look.
£370 for 2 hour wait.
No separate sections for small and big dogs.
Saw 3 aggressive dogs that were barking and trying to corner smaller dogs. They should be told to wait outside if they can’t train their dogs that’s not my problem. I shouldn’t be at risk.
No water bowls out.
Just feels like a scam to catch out those panicking

It’s just too ridiculously expensive for to get looked at and given meds- the vet also give us bad advice on the costs out usual vet would of cost us the next day which meant we took her there and took the day off work to be charged over double.

Hi there, thanks for your feedback on the cost of your pet’s care at Vets Now. We appreciate that taking an unplanned trip to an emergency care provider can be frustrating. It’s much more expensive to run an emergency clinic than a regular daytime veterinary practice and our prices do reflect this. 14 week old puppy with a broken leg

14 week old puppy with a broken leg. Didn’t even get triaged, there could’ve been internal bleeding or anything and nobody looked at her. Waited over 2 hours , paid nearly £700. Disgraceful service do not use.

Perfect care

We arrive late at night with an unresponsive puppy and they took him right in to get seen. The receptionists were lovely and gave some advice on why he might be like that. The nurse who looked after Loki explained everything clearly and made sure we knew what the next steps were.

I don’t know if the staff read these but I’m happy to tell you that Loki (the 11 week old dachshund puppy) is completely fine this morning!

Amazing in our time of need…

The staff were so friendly and accommodating, during a really stressful and emotional time we were seen quickly and the response to our dog was amazing we trusted them 100% with his care, the vets were fantastic and reception staff were equally as helpful with the insurance claim information - couldn’t fault the service

Horrendous experience!!!!!!!

Receptionist absolutely lovely and very helpful. The vet was absolutely terrible and unprofessional! We were basically accused us of neglecting our beloved bull dog . She had a chronic infection which was out of our control. I can explain more 1 to 1 .

Our dog Blu was cared for really well

Our dog Blu was cared for really well, all the staff were really helpful and kind towards us and our beautiful boy, the only criticism i have is how extremely expensive it is, and the fact that because we didn't fall into the catchment area for pdsa we had to find the funds to keep our dog alive, as a family that struggles on universal credit we should of been entitled to help with the bill, it shouldn't matter what area you come from, luckily we had family who helped us out, but there will be family's in our situation that would not have been able to get that help and would have had to watch there beloved pet die or be put to sleep, there was a few weeks gap from the free pet insurance that came with our puppy and us starting it up again, unfortunately we were still in the 2 week period were our new insurance didn't cover us, we are now struggling even more in a cost of living crisis, although this has happened i can't fault the love that was shown towards our puppy.

Not worthy the money and time during an emergency

Very little was done. I do not want to publicly criticise the practice since every person experience is different and often based on personal opinions in a particular incident. I just want to say charging for emergency while having me wait for nearly 30 minutues and only be given very little examination (barely touch my pet) and all about there is kothkng can be done and putting my pet down is the last thing I have in my mind about emergency. How is it when I have to tell the vet what need to be examine, what drug my pet needs and the dosage information, seriously, I thought I was the vet.
