Although the treatment my dog had was very expensive, I couldn’t fault the vet and team that help my dog through her difficult labour with a c section. Thanks

Avoid at all cost

I took my wonderful elderly cat to Vets Now emergency service following a sudden collapse. The vet had no sympathy and tried to sell me an overnight hospital stay for £900 although I could see and feel and it was clear my cat was dying. Only when I started asking questions about the chance of the overnight intravenous fluids and oxygen and observation improving her condition, did the vet say it wouldn’t make much of a difference. Thankfully and in spite of my emotional state I refused and had her put to sleep. Avoid Vets Now at all costs. They don’t care about animals, only about the profit they can make. Don’t be deceived by Vets Now in Liverpool being co–located with PDSA animal hospital, which is a charity. It is only after my visit that I found out Vets Now are owned by private equity companies, which explains the aggressive pursuit of profit to the detriment of the welfare of animals.

Hi , thanks for your feedback on the cost of our service. As you may be aware, it’s a lot more expensive to run an after-hours emergency vet service. The greater running costs we incur are reflected in our prices. A midnight emergency for my dog

A midnight emergency for my dog. Phone answered straight away, I could access help immediately and brought her to the surgery. Kind and sympathetic staff and immediate attention from the vet. No unnecessary tests but treatment options discussed, with costs given. Plenty of time to ask questions and not pressed for decisions that could wait. After treatment the notes were sent to our regular vet and so available the next morning when I took her in for a follow up. So thankful help was at hand. Thank you

£450 for Nothing…

My dog inhaled a 'foxtail' into his nostril today, Saturday. I was told he needed to be seen today as an Out Of Hours appointment. Given how badly he was sneezing and pawing at his nose I was fine with being quoted £288 consultation fee, perhaps a little more for getting the thing out of his nose. However my bill ended up the better part of £450. For what? Nothing. They didn't have a rhinoscope... Knowing what he was coming in for, not having the instrument necessary is a bad sign, no? They charged £31 for taking him out the room to see if they could get it out 'blind'. While the staff were lovely I feel thoroughly disgusted at the cost of essentially being sent home with a pain killer and told to see my own vet on Monday. Instead of saying, we can't do the necessary exam due to lack of equipment, they got £450 out of us. If you can possibly avoid this Out of Hours service do so.

Expensive medication

I know you have to pay more for emergency vets but £288 just to see the vet and then some anaesthetic eye eye ointment and antibiotics total cost for visit £413.51. I am a pensioner and found the cost of £125.51 for medication unbelievable

Hi Brenda, thanks for your review. I know it can be frustrating having to pay for an unplanned trip to the vets. Much like it is for other out-of-hours services in other industries, It's more expensive to run an out-of-hours pet emergency service than a general daytime practice. We've broken down where our costs go here if you'd like to find out more: https://www.vets-now.com/2018/01/emergency-vet-costs-prices-fees/. Horrendous Experience

I brought my dog, who has a history of pancreatitis, to Vets Now on the night of 20.05.24 due to severe discomfort and vomiting. The clinic was in a poor state, with staff displaying unprofessional behaviour. After an hour-long wait, a scruffy vet briefly saw my dog, recommended costly tests without any physical examination, and failed to communicate effectively. Despite concerns, the final bill was £800, far exceeding initial quotes. The vet didn’t know the issue so we took him home.
My regular vet promptly diagnosed a blockage in my dogs intestines the next morning at a fraction of the cost.

I have submitted a formal complaint and await your response

Update: 27.05
You've replied to say "get in touch", I have and awaiting a response. You also keep emailing me to say "leave feedback" and to pay £30 outstanding on my bill - I will be doing no such thing. Your complaints process says to allow 30 days for a response!

Neglect

Took my dog in as she had a gap of over two hours between her giving birth. On arriving lily went into labour I was took into a side room where a vet nurse come in and ripped the sack that was visable. And started to pull at it. I was told to go home and she will have the pup soon. On getting home lily had the puppy which was dead due to the vet nurse breaking the sack leading to suffocation and also where she had pulled the umbilical cord that much it ripped the puppies insides out.

I was charged £288 for what? Murdering a puppy and potentially the mother? No examination was done to see where the puppy was in regards to birth canal. I understand vets don’t agree with breeding but to do that was shocking and the most vile thing I have ever seen and to then allow my dog to bleed all over the waiting room whilst other people was waiting…

I have wrote a complaint and expect my money back for the shear neglect and danger my dog has been threw

Emergency treatment for a guinea pig

Needed emergency care for our guinea pig outside of our normal vets hours. We were seen within 15 minutes of arriving, the vet was knowledgeable on guinea pigs and fixed the piggy up for us. £137 for the appointment, plus the cost of medication - not too unreasonable a cost considering it was midnight!
Would definitely use again if out-of-hours care was needed.
