Buyer Beware — Now Facing Threats from ShoppyDeals After Leaving an Honest Review

After a very poor shopping experience with ShoppyDeals, I had to file a chargeback through my bank to get my money back. My complaint was legitimate and resolved not by the company, but by my bank.

However, instead of addressing the issue professionally, ShoppyDeals has now sent me two aggressive, threatening emails, trying to intimidate me into deleting my review. These messages contain personal threats, legal bullying, and even statements that could be interpreted as harassment or blackmail.
I take these threats very seriously and have reported everything to Greater Manchester Police. I’ve also informed consumer rights groups and am in the process of escalating this through legal channels.

Let this be a warning to other customers:
If you have a bad experience and speak up, they may try to silence you. This is not how a trustworthy business behaves.
I stand by my experience and will not be intimidated.

Being bullied to remove my review

Like others I have received a threatening email from Shoppydeals for a review that is totally truthful. Posting it here to reassure others to ignore them and their threats.

Text as below:

We are reaching out following concerns raised by our board of marketplace sellers regarding defamatory content posted under ShoppyDeals’ unclaimed Trustpilot profile

After investigation, we identified a review attributed to you containing unlawful allegations that violate UK law and Trustpilot’s terms.

While we value free expression, your post crosses into defamation, harming both our platform and the 300+ small businesses we support.

1. Our Stance on Feedback

At ShoppyDeals Marketplace, we welcome fair criticism and strive for transparency.

However, your review includes unsubstantiated claims of fraud ("scam," "fraudulent"), which contradict:

- Our operational records (no legal rulings against us since 2019).

- The experiences of thousands of satisfied buyers and sellers.

- The fact that your dispute was resolved via a chargeback refund. : Chargeback refunded by ShoppyDeals marketplace (not the seller, nor your bank/card provider, as many assume).

- We took full responsibility for the incident and covered all costs.

However, we refuse to become a free marketing tool for Trustpilot on an unclaimed profile filled with suspicious trolls (some without orders).

False accusations not only damage our reputation but also jeopardize small entrepreneurs who rely on our platform.

2. Legal and Ethical Concerns

Your review violates:

- UK Defamation Act 2013: False statements causing "serious harm" to a business.

- Malicious Falsehood: Knowingly spreading damaging untruths.

- Trustpilot’s Terms: Unverified/unsubstantiated allegations.

Additionally, our Trustpilot profile was never claimed, meaning:

- Reviews may come from unverified users or fake accounts.

- Trustpilot does not verify purchases, yet profits from unmoderated content.

3. Impact on Small Businesses

Unlike Amazon, we do not charge sellers fees—our revenue comes from ads. False reviews primarily hurt:

- Small sellers escaping Amazon’s dominance.

- Families supplementing incomes through our platform.

4. Resolution Request

To resolve this matter amicably and avoid further escalation, we kindly request the following:

1. Prompt Removal of Defamatory Content: Please remove all false and damaging reviews (including unsubstantiated allegations such as "scam" or "fraud") without delay.

2. Written Confirmation: Provide written confirmation of compliance via email by 1st August 2024.

5. Consequences of Non-Compliance

Should you fail to comply with this request, we reserve the right to take further action, which may include:

- Legal Proceedings for Defamation: Seeking appropriate remedies, including damages and legal costs.

- Injunctive Relief: Applying to the court for an order mandating removal and potential penalties.

- Identity Disclosure: Pursuing necessary steps under GDPR or applicable laws to identify anonymous posters, if required.

We trust this matter can be resolved promptly and reasonably before further steps are taken.

This is a final goodwill opportunity to resolve the matter amicably. We urge you to act responsibly to protect innocent sellers.

Sincerely,

ShoppyDeals Marketplace Team

Bullying/intimidation attempt after negative review

**Update: I have now received three threatening emails—one of which referenced personal details obtained through Facebook, and threatened to "destroy me and my small business" unless I took down my review.**

I originally posted a negative review based on my personal experience: I paid for an item via ShoppyDeals, but the order was never fulfilled. I had to go through a chargeback process with my bank to get my money back.

After posting my review, I received increasingly aggressive and threatening emails from someone claiming to be a “legal advisor” acting on behalf of ShoppyDeals, demanding that I delete my review. The message was full of legal jargon and references to UK and EU laws, trying to intimidate me into silence.

For transparency, I am including the full message below so others can see how this company responds to criticism.

I stand by my review, which is a truthful account of my experience. Receiving a refund through a chargeback doesn’t erase what happened. Trying to silence unhappy customers with legal threats rather than addressing the issues says a lot about how this business operates.

I will be reporting this company to trustpilot.

Dear (my name),
We act on behalf of ShoppyDeals « our client « an online marketplace operating in full compliance with UK and EU consumer and business regulations. It has come to our attention that you have published one or more defamatory reviews on Trustpilot (and/or other platforms), falsely accusing our Client of fraudulent activity, including but not limited to allegations of "scam" or "fraud."
It has come to our attention that you have published a defamatory review regarding ShoppyDealls.co.uk, falsely implicating the company in a payment processing issue that was solely the responsibility of Mollie. Following investigation, it has been confirmed that your payment was withheld by Mollie and never forwarded to the marketplace seller. Despite this, your publication of false and damaging allegations against our client constitutes defamation under the UK Defamation Act 2013 (Section 1: Serious Harm Requirement)*, exposing you to potential legal action for reputational damage. Immediate removal of the review is demanded to avoid further escalation.
1. Legal Basis for Demand

---

Your statements constitute defamation (libel) under:

UK Law : Defamation Act 2013 (Section 1 – Serious Harm Requirement) and Malicious Falsehood (Common Law).

EU Law : General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), E-Commerce Directive 2000/31/EC (Art. 14 – Liability of Hosting Providers), and Unfair Commercial Practices Directive 2005/29/EC (prohibiting misleading statements affecting business reputation).
2. Trustpilot’s Confirmed Liability of Reviewers
We have contacted Trustpilot’s Compliance & Integrity Team, which has confirmed:

Reviewers are solely responsible for the content they post under Trustpilot’s Terms of Use (Section 4 – User Obligations).

Trustpilot does not assume financial liability for defamatory content and will not compensate businesses for damages caused by users.

If legal proceedings are initiated, Trustpilot may disclose your identity under a court order (Section 5(2) of the UK Defamation Act 1996 / GDPR Art. 6(1)(c) – Legal Obligation).

3. Chargeback Resolution Renders Reviews False

You initiated a chargeback via Visa/Mastercard, and the disputed amount was fully refunded.

The matter was officially closed in your favor, meaning no unresolved claim exists.

By persisting in labelling ShoppyDeals as fraudulent after receiving a refund, your reviews are objectively false and malicious, violating UK Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 (CPR 2008).
Legal Consequences of Non-Compliance
Failure to remove all defamatory content within [7] days will result in:
- Civil defamation claim under the Defamation Act 2013, seeking damages for reputational harm, lost revenue, and legal costs.
- **Injunctive relief (via UK High Court)**compelling removal, with potential daily fines for non-compliance.
- Formal GDPR/legal request to Trustpilotfor your identity disclosure under Art. 15 GDPR (Right of Access) and UK Data Protection Act 2018.
Action Required
1. Permanently delete all false reviews from all platforms.
2. Email written confirmation to (email address of Shoppy deals) by [1st of August].
This letter serves as final notice. Non-compliance will be treated as willful defamation, escalating to litigation without further warning.
Sincerely,
Michael Cohen

SCAM

We've found out that this company has been pressuring people to change or remove their negative reviews from Trustpilot.Read less
By doing this, this company is deliberately limiting the information that’s available on their profile page. This can lead to bias and compromise the reliability of reviews. We’re strongly against this.

We want consumers to make decisions based on genuine experiences—both positive and negative. We also want to protect reviewers from being pressured by companies.

We take the integrity of our platform very seriously. When we uncover misuse, we take action and alert our community.

Useless - steer clear

Ordered five weeks ago, spent nearly £60 and no item received. No response to emails. Unbelievable that they are allowed to continue to 'trade'. Useless - steer clear.

Review update July 2025 (following rather interesting communication from Shoppydeals similar to those reported below!):

Eventually got money back, had to do so by initiating chargeback via bank rather than Shoppydeals.

Another rip off - no product, no answer!

Ordered a window vac and like others before me received a confirmation email - then nothing. Tried to contact them to no avail. No answers. Luckily I paid by credit card so initiated a charge back so I have the money back unless by some amazing miracle they suddenly decide to send me my goods! Shoppy Deals needs to be shut down!

We should have looked at these reviews before ordering a camera on 2 Oct but sadly we didn't and now we are £119.05 down and no camera!! We are a school and have been ripped off! Cannot get hold of anyone at Shoppy Deals. We need to report this scam company immediately and get their website taken down. Going to see if the bank can do anything about getting our money back.

Shoppydeals appears to be trading fraudulently

Shoppydeals appears to be trading fraudulently. Purchased some water filter cartridges (approx £40) on Sept. 8th, received an order acknowledgement and an invoice but there was no estimate of delivery dates. Goods never arrived. There's no tel. no. or email address, just an online form for communication - sent a message but no response. Contacted Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline and then wrote a letter claiming a full refund, giving them a deadline of 14 days, and sent it recorded delivery (as per CA instruction). Letter was returned because there is no company of that name at the address given on their website [20-22 Wenlock Rd. London N1 7GU]. Don't go anywhere near them - UK law ought to be a lot tougher on this sort of activity.
