Advertised as cheap but not cheap at all.
I've been with my current provider for 30 years and have always been happy with them, but at the last renewal my monthly premiums went up by £25 a month so i wondered whether HMCA might be cheaper.
Not at all. Quoted price per month for their basic plan was £110 a month MORE than I am currently paying, and there are limits on the amounts you can claim for surgery, consultants etc. So despite their long waits on the phone I still rate Aviva worth staying with. I would suggest anyone considering private health insurance for the first time to get several quotes from different companies and compare benefits as well as costs. Also i am over 70 which does not seem to increase my premiums by a huge amount with my current provider, but it probably does matter to HMCA who just did the quote based on my application.

Everything seem excellent so far and we have come from Bupa to you, however let’s hope everything is great if Gill or myself need treatment or are unwell

After contacting HMCA, I now fully understand
regarding the claim form , The help and support they gave me I must say I will definitely recommend to my friends. and family
They deserve the 5 stars
When setting up the Medical Cover the customer service representative was clear, friendly and helpful. This made the whole experience quicker, easier and pleasant. Customer Service staff are a credit to the HMCA.
We have not had to access medical services as yet under the policy but hope to see the same level of cover and service if ever this becomes necessary.
I have only recently joined HMCA so my rating is based on this process. The documentation provided sets out very clearly what you get. There was no pressure when speaking to staff, only very friendly but efficient responses to queries. I feel confident from reading reviews from other members that this level of service will be the same when I need to use my policy.
The process of joining HMCA health insurance was a joy compared to other companies because:
The person I was dealing with was patient, factual, no pressure contrary to other companies, explained all the options open to me regarding exclusions and the HMCA plans and did not knock other companies offers..
Very helpful and knowlegable lady called Ruth. Sense of humour also, and not in a rush.
The ladies I spoke to on several occasions were very helpful. They were friendly and knowledgeable and were able to answer any questions I had.
The personal touch. The cover suits us for the moment and is comparable to those of other providers. We liked reductions for paying for six months at a time. The booklet is very clear on what you get and queries are answered clearly. It was good having our telephone calls answered straight away and the quality of the customer services was outstanding.
Very pleasant member of staff who explained all you need to know to move forward with the process.
Friendly, efficient, professional and very informative. Would recommend HMCA service is 5 🌟 thankyou
We have received excellent support from our current private health insurers. The renewal premium was subject of a substantial increase. This coincided with a letter and brochure from HMCA with an estimate based on correspondence the previous year.
Being hearing impaired it was very helpful to be able to follow this contact up by email. Eventually we became involved in a friendly follow up telephone call. Their representative spoke to us clearly inviting us to provide update and details of our medical history and medications. The HMCA estimate was confirmed as still being valid.
To avoid misunderstanding we asked that this information, confirming the details under which the offer was made, were confirmed in writing. This seems normal procedure with other quotations but has yet to be provided.
An added reason for this request was a "doom and gloom" email we received from our current insurer warning us what competitors left out or their cover or the restrictions they would apply and the consequences of changing our current policy.
Some those concerns were reflected in a few of the TrustPilot reviews that are posted here.
It is outstanding customer and team support that the Directors and Underwriters are now involved in assessing our concerns and other points raised in TrustPilot reviews
UPDATE 28th November 2023. HMCA did not respond to this review. It is only within the last week that I have received a final decision from a Director of HMCA in response to my concerns. Such a final letter is needed before outstanding issues can be presented to the Financial Ombudsman Service. This original five star review has therefore been downgraded to one star.

Before taking out insurance I rang as there were a couple of points I wanted to discuss. The lady I spoke to was polite and helpful and answered the questions I raised.
Great Team at HMCA branch we dealt with. Fast, frendly and efficient service.
Elaine Webster’s patience, support and good humour in helping me decide the health insurance company and plan that was right for me was admirable - no hard sell here, just information and advice gently given. Her knowledge and delivery gave confidence in HMCA should I ever have to make a claim.
The person I spoke to was most helpful and gave me the information I needed. I am most grateful to him.
Excellent service whilst joining. Fortunately, we have not needed to claim but if the reception and help on our joining is anything to go by claims are not going to be a problem.
I have honestly had the most positive experience signing up with HMCA. In my opinion they clearly care who they employ to answer their phones and take potential customers through the stages of signing up to their services. Real people answer their phones, no pressing endless choices and being passed around from one department to another.. that was refreshing.
I was dealt with by an extremely helpful lovely lady, so polite and knowledgeable as to what they would be able to cover me for or not. They even supplied me with a letter to my previous health provider to terminate my account with them. It was an effortless change over and has saved me a small fortune every month. I haven’t needed to use this health insurance as yet and hope that I won’t of course. But I feel safe guarded should I need to. My friend who recommended me to them has indeed used her health cover with this company and said they have been fantastic for her. So I would absolutely recommend HMCA to anyone looking for a new health insurance provider.
