It did what it said on the tin and the site was fairly easy to navigate. I would still like to talk to a real person though, as it's better to express your needs to someone rather than try to get it across to an algorithm..

Ireceived a quote from Hastings very quickly the website and it was massively lower than from the company I had been with for several years. It was easy to arrange and seems to me to cover all the risks I was previously covered for. My experience of Hastings Direct is very positive.

I have been with Hastings Direct for 6 years, but when my renewal quote came through with a £300 price increase, I called to discuss it. During the call, I mentioned that I needed to change my address. The representative gave me an updated figure—which was still much higher than competitor quotes—so I told her I would think about it.

At no point during that call was I told that updating my address would result in my active policy being cancelled. A few days later, I received an email stating my policy had been cancelled with immediate effect. No warning, no explanation. I could have unknowingly driven to work completely uninsured.
When I called customer service, they refused to help and stated I couldn't keep my cover for the remaining two weeks of my term. I explicitly offered to pay any additional fee or premium for the address change, but they outright refused.

To cancel a customer's active policy without clear warning or explanation—especially after 6 years—is completely unacceptable. Terrible communication and customer service.

I am trying to renew my own car insurance as we have both our cars with Hastings, on the same account. When I logged in I could only see my wife's car. I tried contacting via App and was told that they would not talk to me as they could not see my car on the App. I then tried to call, several times, each time having a minimum 15 minute 'hold' time. At they end they told me to create another account. They then sent me an email with a reminder that my car was due for renewal, and an option to renew online by clicking the link - which took me back to square one where only my wife's car was visible. Although their prices were competitive, I've given up and now moving to another provider. I'll do the same with my wife's car when it comes up again for renewal. Once upon a time it used to be easy to talk to an actual human, and have prompt, quality service.
