I joined the gym and set up a direct…

I joined the gym and set up a direct debit. A few days later I received a letter generated overnight that I had cancelled my debit order and owed my final payment and they were going to charge me an admin fee. Phoned the gym who saif they would have the admin fee removed. I phoned my bank who said that Harlands cancelled the debit order. I phoned Harlands back and they said there was a note on my file saying I had cancelled my debit order. I said that it wasn't true and challenged that. I asked if I could pay for my gym membership another way and they were very arrogant and said I wouldn't be able to find a gym who didn't deal with them so good luck. I got cut off 3 times. Phoned the gym who said I should phone Harlands and have the debit order reinstated. I phoned Harlands again who took my debit oder details again and then asked me to pay up front the first month's fees. I refused to give them my card details and they were rude and said there was no other way of paying. I said I would pay the first month's fees directly to the gym. Now I'm waiting to see what else they do to try and get my payment details. BE WARNED: Never give them your card deatils because then they can get into your account and take however much they want whenever they want.

Good afternoon, thank you for your feedback and please accept my apologies for the late reply, I can assure you card details are never stored, should a manual payment be needed then they are actioned with the call recording stopped and card details are input by the customer using their telephone key pad, we do not get sight of the card details, this process is 100% safe and secure, in relation the the Direct Debit issues, this can certainly be investigated, please send us more details by emailing customer.relations@harlandsgroup.co.uk, I can assure a swift response and resolution

Absolutely shocking business

Absolutely shocking business. My Son signed up for a month. He’s a minor. Didn’t cancel his membership so they’ve continued to take his £24.99 a month from me. I’ve only realised when a payment wasn’t made due to issues with my bank account. A few days later they take £49.99!!! They’ve ignored an email I sent. Today I spoke to a female call handler who says they’ve applied a £25 admin fee. They’ve refused any refund. Despite signing up for a month & never going near the place since I will not get a refund. I have to email prove he’s a minor & they will cancel!! Needless to say DD is cancelled. What a shocking company. They need investigating

I have had a Gym membership with…

I have had a Gym membership with Energie Fitness for four years but due to a change in circumstances I can no longer afford to pay monthly charges.

I was told when I signed up I had no contract and I could cancel with one month’s notice.

I have given one month’s notice and made my final payment. My gym have confirmed I have cancelled and have no outstanding charges.

HARLANDS HOWEVER have been harassing me for two weeks to pay extra and they keep adding charges.

I spoke to Debbie at Harlands on the phone and she told me they had received my notice to cancel and that I had made my final payment.

HARLANDS HOWEVER have continued to send harassing messages trying to coerce me to pay more money online.

I have reported Harlands as a scam company to the Scottish Government. If they continue to harass me for money I do not owe I will report them to the
Financial Ombudsman.

I will fight them as long as it takes. I will go to court if I have to.

They will not get one more penny from me.

I’ve been going to gyms for 24 years and this is the first time this has ever happened.

I will never go to another gym associated with Harlands and I will tell everyone what happened.

Avoid this company like the plague.

Do NOT use any gyms that partner with them

Scam, Untrustworthy. Dont use any gym that partners with them!

I called the company and emailed them on the 15th March to cancel my membership. Initially they tried to say I wasnt entitled to one (but i had read the terms properly so corrected them for the lie or "mistake"). They then confirmed that my membership had been cancelled and i would recieve a full refund.

It is now the 17th of April and I still have not received my refund. They are not replying to my emails.

Absolutely disgusting company

Absolutely disgusting company! £25 for an admin charge for a missed payment rather than like most companies that try again a few days later. Can’t get hold of anyone when trying to ring

Cannot use membership charged for by Harlards

They took my money for Everyman membership but Everyman say the membership is expired and to contact Harlands who manage their membership admin. It is Saturday and Harlands don't work weekends so I cannot use what Harlands have charged me for.

Am worried that they will continue to take out my money, even though my gym contract has been cancelled

Am worried that they will continue to take out my money, even though my gym contract has been cancelled. Am really worried due to repeated awful reviews on here.

When you ring 0300 303 4800 please be aware you are NOT talking to The Gym Group, you are talking to Harlands, who I believe also call themselves something like Xplore.

Avoid if at all possible, a disgrace of a company.

It seems like they are all working from home & today sitting in The Gym managers office using a landline, I was cut off 3 times by their employees & had to call back with long waiting times.

Doesn’t matter who I spoke to, it was an awful experience all round.

Called Harland's back up and explained the issue, Charlotte corrected the direct debit date and am told no charge will be added, went to the gym and didn't get stopped for none payment, an easy issue to amend and was dealt with straightaway by Harlands , would have been five star experience but had to wait a few minutes for the call to be answered

If I could give a 0 I would.

If I could give a 0 I would.
The fact that each time I attempt to call the phone i end up getting the message "temporary unavailable" Which is an indicator that you turn off answering your phones during opening hours or the phone religiously disconnects speaks volumes. This is Just one of the many things wrong with the Harlands Group!

Worst company ever

Worst company ever! Don’t even deserve a 1 star.
Signed me up into a gym membership agreement that I was unaware of, said they sent me relevant paperwork, but they sent that to the wrong address as postcode wrong.
I contacted the gym and they said all should be cancelled and apologised
All documented in my emails, tried to communicate via email, had nothing except payment reminders.
They have now passed on my apparent debt to a credit management company and the fees gave nigh on doubled!
So now trying to deal with an even higher debt that I don’t even owe!!!
Bunch of crooks, do not get involved with these people.

Sadly I can't leave a zero score

Sadly I can't leave a zero score.
Appalling company. Took unauthorised money from my account. Told me on 3 occasions the return was being processed. Still waiting.
I have now contacted watchdog, this company clearly need investigating and shaming on national TV for their diabolical treatment of customers whose money they have stolen.

If it were possible to give them zero…

If it were possible to give them zero stars I would. They are useless, they can’t seem to follow through on their own word and they don’t have their correct complaints procedure available for people to view which in itself is a breach of trust and regulation.

I reported them for the FOS for their incompetence the last time I complained less than 3 months ago, and eventually found their complaints process after weeks of being misinformed by their staff (and not having an up to date procedure on their website) and I’ll likely be doing it again.

I told them the issue with my bank which caused me to miss a payment and I’ll sort it out when my bank sorts themselves out. They responded in the way that I won’t get charged as I let them know, low and behold they send me another letter saying because of a missed payment, they’ve incurred a £25 charge in my account, contradictory to my telephone conversation. The company needs to be shut down for sheer incompetence
