I’ve been a loyal Green Flag customer for over six years and have never made a single claim. I recently noticed that my monthly premium had increased by more than 114%, despite no changes to my circumstances, no missed payments, and no claims.
When I contacted customer services to question this, I was offered a very poor discount described as “the best they could do.” When I then chose to cancel due to the unreasonable increase, I was hit with a £10 cancellation fee - apparently for “admin,” even though cancelling a policy is essentially a quick system action.
The advisor’s attitude noticeably changed once I challenged the situation, and it was clear she was irritated at having to deal with the issue. I raised a formal complaint regarding both the excessive price hike and the cancellation fee. The response I received was a completely unhelpful phone call telling me my premium had gone up because of “other users,” and when I pointed out the increase was over 100%, all I got was a repeated “we’re sorry.”
I asked for the £10 fee to be waived given my six years of loyalty and perfect payment history, but this was refused without any reasonable explanation.
Overall, the experience has been extremely disappointing and not what I would expect from a company I’ve trusted for so long, had they simply been reasonable in the fee increases I probably would have I stayed with them for many years to come for convenience alone if nothing else.
Ultimately I should have questioned it sooner to avoid the admin fee, but given how busy life is, it irks me when companies clearly create policies to take advantage of that fact rather than just simply supply the service they provide and be fair and decent.
