If you value your time and sanity, avoid Electric Ireland at all costs. My experience with their gas account migration process has been nothing short of a nightmare.

I initiated the switch on July 30th and was met with nothing but vague assurances and empty promises. Despite numerous calls and emails, I've received conflicting information, experienced endless delays, and even had my account mysteriously listed as "closed" on their website.

Today, after yet another frustrating call to customer service, I was informed that while the issue might be resolved next week, I will still be charged for gas usage during this period, even though I have already paid my previous provider for it.

This is beyond unacceptable. I'm expected to pay twice for the same service due to their internal incompetence, an issue that I've already wasted countless hours trying to resolve. Electric Ireland's complete disregard for customer service and basic fairness is appalling.

Save yourself the headache and choose a different provider. Electric Ireland clearly doesn't value its customers or their time.

Absolute snakes

Absolute snakes. The con is they “estimate” your bill and charge you extortionate amounts. Then it’s like pulling teeth to try solve it. The Agents fill you with BS. Really don’t give a toss the stress they cause. I’ve took a dump in a toilet which was more caring than these ass holes. Karma will get them tho and itl be a well deserved anal raping when it does. Screw Electric Ireland. Worst customer service in the country, no wonder the call centre has a huge turnover. Ass holes. I’m going to be requesting my uncle remove Electric Ireland now from all his rental properties. Shocking how they get away with this.

Moved out of a house 2 years ago

Moved out of a house 2 years ago. Sold it and bought another. Contacted them to tell them I've moved out here is my final reading from my meter and paid on the day we left. 2 years on and I'm getting letters to my new address from my old address(my name with old address on it,post man knows me and hands it too me). I keep telling them I've left that house why am I still getting letter. Every single phone call oh its fixed now no need to worry, And what happens another letter. Got a phone call today looking to install a smart meter to my old address. The person who bought my house hasn't moved in yet as they are away. Rang them again for the 1000 time saying I have nothing to do with that house. I've done everything they asked final meter reading, paid told them to close that account. They had no problem opening my new account for My new address but seem to have a massive one with closing the old one. It's a simple thing to do. I don't own or live there anymore. The worst customer service I've ever dealt with. I've also contacted ESB they are just as bad.

The most horrendous customer service I've ever experienced. 4 separate calls over 2 weeks, 1 with a Manager, a complete lack of consistency in information and a complete disregard for the distress of their customer. I was expecting a refund of almost €500. I haven't seen it and have now been told that I'll be refunded a much lower amount, with no explanation as to what will happen to all the credit I had accumulated. Avoid like the plague or get on bonkers.ie and move.

Useless inefficient company

Useless inefficient company. Despite promises that my credit balance of almost 900 euro would be paid out, no effort has been made to do so. A lazy inefficient attitude, silly excuses, lies and a complete disregard for customer care is what you can expect here. Stay miles away.

The worst energy provider on the…

The worst energy provider on the market. Customer service can't help, they can't manage simple requests and I have had an awful experience. I wanted balance/equalised payments coming out the 1st of each month. Simple request? No! I have spent hours on calls talking to agents who can't help and it still isn't set up 4/5 months later.

Anyone is better than these guys!

I've been an Electric Ireland customer for years! And over the last 3 years their customer service has become beyond dreadful, resulting in overbilling, billing mixups that take hours and hours of your time to straighten out and customer service agents that are powerless to do anything - including "in order to reset your password or access your account as online systems are not working you must speak to e-billing. And the billing department only works Monday to Friday." I cannot wait to get rid of them. They are dodgy and do not care at all about their customers - only about price gouging!

Abusive Unchecked Estimated Billing

It's unbelievable that regulatory agencies in Ireland allow a company to operate with completely random estimated values. It's like going to a restaurant, someone looking at you, and charging you an amount based on what they think you ate. It's an enormous disrespect to have gigantic fees from a company that doesn't bother to MEASURE your consumption. And if you want the correct value, it's your responsibility to figure out in a complex of buildings where the meter is, find the key, and do the job they are paid to do. It's absurd, abusive, and a criminal connivance of the State. This doesn't even touch on the abusive fees, which are so outrageous they don't even need to be mentioned.

Avoid at all costs

My mam switched at the door. Told she could pay at the post office and would still avail of the discount.
They would say anything just to get a sale. She had to give her bank account details but informed the sales people she would not be paying through the bank, they agreed that this was fine.
Weeks in she received a threatening letter demanding €300 as they could not access her bank account and no discount was applied.
They are very unhelpful and showed no empathy to a woman in her 80's. They ought to be ashamed of themselves and it seems very little training is given. She had since switched back to Bord Gais, harsh lesson learned. Avoid this company at all costs.

On a par with Eir

On a par with Eir. The worst company I have every dealt with. Taking money randomly out of my account and then not being able to give me a reason why. No follow up. No refund. I had to pay to get out of contract with them as I couldn't afford it anymore.

I've received 2000 euros bill for 2…

I've received 2000 euros bill for 2 months saying that last bill was estimated, so there was a "small" increase (my usual bill would be around 300 euros).
After that shock I went to check the meter and managed to figure out that the ESB technician read it wrong and recorded total usage under night usage.
Just a "small" increase - 10 000kw/h spent in 2 months. Terrible.

On the end I've sent the reading and they have corrected the bill, but I never have received any apology, nothing. What kind of customer service is that?
Anyone have a right to stress you out and ruin your day.
I'm leaving them and advise everyone to do so. Stay away!

Cancellation charges & poor customer service

I recently cancelled my account and moved to a better value provider. I received an additional bill for cancelling my gas service which they had not warned me about. Despite paying this bill they are still sending me weekly messages asking for the fee and then even hung up on me when I rang to discuss. Shocking experience.
