Totally in the dark

Totally in the dark: My mother paid a deposit 8 months ago to a man agreeing to do building work for her. He kept postponing the work, and eventually told her he was going to get an IVA. He directed her to a company and told her if she wanted he money back she should speak to someone called Chris L. He didn't have a number and told my mother to Google them. She found a number and spoke with the man and he agreed he was dealing with the paperwork, but considering there were so many debtors, they needed time to complete it. When the paperwork finally arrived, it was not from the company she had spoken with, but instead from Clear Debt. The information was sent to the wrong address, and so my mother was only able to review it this morning. The information tells her there is a virtual meeting at 3 pm today. However, no information was provided about how to access the virtual meeting (only how to attend the physical meeting - 6 hours away in Manchester). The letter also invited us to contact the sender if we had any enquiries, but no direct number was provided. She spent an hour trying to get through on the two available contact telephone numbers where she was kept on hold. She was unable to speak to anyone. She also sent an email to the only available email address which we had to search for on google (enquiries @cleardebt.co.uk). All emails to this addressed have bounced saying it doesn't exist. She was also told she could vote on the terms of the IVA at an email address provided. Her emails to this address have also bounced. There has already been so much dishonesty and lack of clear information concerning this case, our inability to speak with anyone from Clear Debt and bouncing emails are adding to our sense that this is just another part of a large scam. I have some questions:
1) What is the relationship between Clear Debt and the other company?
2) Why is there no reliable number to contact Clear Debt on?
3) Why is there no email address to contact Clear Debt on?
4) Do they really exist, or are they simply part of a scam?
UPDATE: I have improved my review as Clear Debt have now contacted my mother, but I am still concerned about how difficult it was to contact them, secondly about being invited to a virtual meeting with no instructions on how to join it virtually and thirdly about how they vett the people they choose to prepare IVAs for.

Amazing People Amazing Service

Thank you clear debt and thank you farhad (my adviser) you are amazing people and your service is more than amazing. From start to end it was simple and smooth experience. They were very co-operative, supportive and try to make things easiest. It was really very easy to contact my adviser and if he won't available he would always call back, listen patiently and answer all my questions satisfactorily. He always gave me alternative if I won't had any document.
I had a very very big amount of loan but they have done my lump sum IVA within less than one month and I had to pay only 10 pence per pound which was unbelievable for me.
I would strongly recommend their service to everyone who is thinking any solutions for his or her debt.

Thought they were a good company

Thought they were a good company, but turns out they actually lie. Told me my debts were cleared after completing an IVA in full only to come back and take money from a PPI claim which paid out 2 years after IVA closed. Stay well clear go to the CIB do not use.

Reply from ClearDebt

Hi,

We are sorry for your frustration, but we want to make it absolutely clear that we haven't lied to you.

You were in an Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA) with us which means you entered a legal agreement to repay an amount you could realistically afford to the organisations you owed money to, over an agreed period. Most people in IVAs pay thousands less than they owe, in debt and interest - this was probably true in your case too.

IVAs are designed for people who cannot repay all they owe. But, they do aim to get back as much as possible for your creditors. This is why the payment protection insurance reclaim money went to them and not you. Reclaims of PPI policies that were sold to you to before entering your IVA are, without time limit, an asset of the IVA to be distributed to your creditors. This was confirmed by a Court of Appeal hearing in the case of Green V Wright, on 1 March 2017.

All IVA supervisors have to reclaim this money and distribute it to creditors. There is nothing we can do about it. Things may be different with Scottish Trust Deeds but IVAs apply in England and Wales and in this case English law rules.

I have only given clear debt 1 start as …

I have only given clear debt 1 start as that is the only way I could write a review otherwise it would be none..

I first called clear debt in January 2017 as I was having issues with Jacob bailiff.. Clear debt said they would help me with this and my other debt issues.. I decided to do an IVA as I was planing to start my own business and an IVA wouldn't effect it as going bankrupt would.

I provided them will all my information and at the start they was never off the phone.. I felt confident that my issues with my debts was going to be over.. They told me it would all be done in a week and I would have to pay £70 a month for 3 years and once that was up all my debt would be cleared and wipe from my record..

A month went by and the IVA was still not finalised. In mid March I received a form which I was to sign to start the IVA.. After reading this form it in fact stated that I would pay a one of fee of £253 then £250 a month for the next five years.. I questioned this as I was paying back over £2000 more than I owed.. i decided to go ahead with this as I could not see any other way I would be debt free.. I signed the form and since then I've heard nothing..

You can not get thought to them they ignore your emails and they read your What's app's and ignore them..

This company is a scam!!! the way I see it is they get all your private information go into your private life and after that they don't want to know..

I have again now started to be bombarded by my debts and there is no way of getting hold of anyone at debt clear..

They are a joke!! Don't wasted your time with is so called company

Should be shut down

Anyone using an insolvency practitioner will obviously be going through a stressful time and at the beginning Cleardebt (although they weren’t called that then) were OK, albeit a little disorganised. Thankfully they didn’t treat me at that time as they're treating me now. A few months after I completed the final payment on my IVA, I started being harassed every day by a third-party company about making a claim for mis-sold PPI. I told them repeatedly that I didn’t want to make a claim but was informed that I had no choice otherwise my IVA with Cleardebt wouldn’t be discharged.
I assisted in organising the paperwork, which was repeatedly sent to the wrong address. It took months of my time to resolve the situation and when it finally was, I wasn’t informed by Cleardebt that an assistance payment had been made. It’s also worth noting that HMRC notified me of a tax rebate during my IVA, which went directly to Cleardebt. Cleardebt have made no mention of the £1000 rebate in any of the annual reports or financial information that I’ve received.
My IVA was completed almost 3 years ago. 9 weeks ago (after finding out about the assistance payment I was owed through another company) I was told that payment had been sent by cheque to the wrong address. I was told that the matter would take up to 2 weeks to resolve via the ‘cashiers department’ and a direct transfer made into my bank account. I’ve heard nothing from Cleardebt since my original enquiry 9 weeks ago, despite having chased by phone (good luck getting through) and by email. Persistently failing to respond to communication is completely unacceptable. The threat not to discharge my IVA unless a claim for mis-sold PPI was pursued, is now being taken up with the financial services ombudsman as, due to a complete absence of communication, I still have no idea where I stand regarding the discharge of my IVA.

Outstanding

The help, advice I have received from ClearDebt has been outstanding. I literally don't know where I would be without the service they have given me. Staff are friendly, understanding, non judgemental and supportive throughout the whole process. Everything was explained in detail on the processes, and I was regularly kept up to date. I would recommend ClearDebt to anyone who is facing financial difficulty.

Can now sleep at night

Well where do I start ??? I returned home from work one day to find a bailiff had called at my home leaving a contact card. I rang him back to be greeted by the most disrespectful man ever. He was very arrogant and I couldn't get through to him that there was just no way I could make the payment he wanted resulting in me breaking down in tears.i looked online and found cleardebt. I was on the phone for about 40 minutes with a lovely man who went through all my details, outgoings, incomings was told roughly what I'd be paying out each month if my Iva was accepted then the proceedings started. It was easy to get all my documents through to them. This process started at the beginning of October and has just been finalised thank you to clear debt I can now sleep at night.I would highly recommend these guys to help you at a difficult time.

Not a bad word to say

I recently moved to malta leaving quite of debt behind in the uk..after securing a job here and realising I'd never have enough to continue paying my debts plus the interest periods coming to their ends I knew I was going to have problems. .I dealt with Steven who from start to finish has been fantastic and very supportive when I was feeling insecure about being accepted..I now can relax and look forward to being debt free in the future
