My 17 year old son bought a car from…

My 17 year old son bought a car from Leeds Branch, great he loved it. We were talked into buying Big Assist Warranty for 2 years which I though great at least he has trouble free motoring for 2 years we were told it covers everything, except wear and tear, unfortunately he had to make a claim shortly afterwards but they paid out and everything was great back on the road. Now my son is in the position 9 month later and has bought a newer and better car and we asked for the warranty which has 15 months to run to be transferred to the new owner. We were told yes thats fine at a £35 cost which was also fine. But then oh no we cant transfer because you had a claim, now forgive me if I am wrong surely it the car that is covered and not my son. If my son had have kept the car surely the warranty would have continued for the further 15 months.

Hi Vicky,

We are sorry about your disappointment with the extended warranty.

I can see that you have raised this with our After-Sales team, who have advised that we are unable to proceed with the transfer of ownership. This is because a claim has already been made against the vehicle's warranty policy. Regardless of whether the claim was submitted under your name or your son's name, the fact that the policy has been utilised means that it no longer meets the eligibility criteria for transfer.

Our decision is based on the policy terms and conditions, which must be applied consistently to all customers.

We apologise for any disappointment that may have been caused.

Awful experierence over 4 days

Recently purchased a vehicle from your dealership for £13,400. My part-exchange vehicle was formally valued and offered by your team at £3,400. Upon informing your sales team that I would be utilizing my own independent finance rather than your in-house lender, my part-exchange valuation was immediately and punitively reduced to £2,600. Your staff explicitly stated that the drop was due to the change in finance, and i didnt buy the incredibly inflated warranty (always buy seperate online, its cheaper).

Clear breach in FCA guidelines, this wasnt treating me fairly. In fact, punishing me because i didnt go with their provider who is more expensive so they lost out on commission.

Go to MotorPoint, Trade Centre, Arnold Clark... don't waste your time. Constantly left me in store for hours on end by myself with unneccessary delay.

EDIT BASED ON REPLY. THIS WAS ABSOLUTELY NOT THE CASE, THEY INSPECTED MY VEHICLE IN PERSON AND GAVE ME THE FIGURE OF 3400. BECAUSE I USED MY OWN FINANCE COMPANY, AND THEY DIDNT GET COMMISSION THEY ADMITTED TO LOWERING IT TO 2600.

THEY CHARGE HIGHER APR FOR THEIR FINANCE COMPANY, AND THEIR ADD ONS SELL FOR 1/3RD OF THE PRICE SEPERATELY. BULLIES AND FRAUDSTERS

Hi,

We are very sorry to hear about your recent experience and the disappointment regarding your part-exchange valuation. The online valuation is to be used as a guide only until viewed in person. Our valuation can depend on many factors, and we do value our part exchanges slightly differently to some dealerships as the majority of cars do go to auction.

I can see that you have raised this with our After-Sales team. They are the appropriate department to review this, and a member of the team will be in contact as soon as they can.

AVOID BIG MOTORING WORLD: £19.5K CAR SOLD WITH HIDDEN P2002 DPF FA

purchased a Land Rover Discovery Sport from Big Motoring World Leeds under agreement BIG0079082. Within less than a month of ownership, the vehicle suffered a major, progressive emissions framework failure. Both Savile Road Garage and the RAC have formally scanned the vehicle and diagnosed fault code P2002, confirming the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) has failed and requires a complete replacement.Under the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015, the selling dealer is strictly and legally responsible for resolving inherent defects discovered within the first 30 days at zero cost to the consumer. However, Big Motoring World and their warranty provider Assurant are causing significant delays with an 8-week investigation and refusing to cover full diagnostic fee shortfalls at Green Oval Garage. This is completely unacceptable customer service for an outright cash buyer. This matter has been formally escalated to the Executive Office of Chairman Laurence Vaughan. I have all official independent diagnostic reports ready for the Financial Ombudsman Service and Trading Standards.

Car not as described and promised valeting never done.

Bought my car on 30th May 2026, travelling to Leeds from the North of Scotland. I had paid to reserve the car, so they knew I was coming. On arrival the car was brought round and the first thing I noticed was the overpowering smell of dog, I nearly gagged (and I own a dog). The sales person said not to worry as they hadn't valeted the car yet and he would ensure it was cleaned properly and the seats shampooed. This did not happen. He even had the audacity to pretend to drive it round to the valet department and made me wait over an hour while they pretended to valet it. It took me hours when I got home to clean it, as it was filthy, the glove box hasn't even been emptied. The boot shelf was broken and there were no car mats, which he promised would be put in the boot. The sales person could not have cared less about the sale, he assumed I was going to buy anyway as I had travelled so far. I was told there was a second key and SD card but they would be sent on from head office. I had to phone and email several times (the Leeds office did not once answer) and I eventually got the key and SD card yesterday.

Hi Shar,

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention and expressing your dissatisfaction with the service you've received from Big Motoring World. We apologise for any inconvenience or frustration caused by the issues you've encountered with your purchase.

We are sorry for your disappointment with your vehicle's mat. Some of our vehicles are not supplied to us with these. If a vehicle is supplied to us without non-essential items such as this, we would not look to replace these. The reason for this is to keep our preparation costs as low as possible; this allows us to pass on the best possible savings to our customers.

I am also sorry to hear that the valet done on your vehicle did not meet your expectations. I have passed this on to our Leeds Management Team so that this can be raised with the valeting company to ensure that this is improved going forward.

I do apologise for any disappointment and inconvenience that this has caused.

AVOID! Sold a faulty car quality, withheld funds, and manager lied about Consumer Rights law.

If I could give zero stars, I would. My experience with Big Motoring World (specifically the Leeds branch and their customer service) has been an absolute nightmare of deception, awful customer care, and blatant disregard for UK consumer law.
We recently purchased a 2023 BMW 1 Series. The car was handed over completely covered in dust, which we quickly realized was a deliberate tactic to mask severe defects. After washing the car, we uncovered:
Major Electronic Failure: The iDrive screen has internal delamination / anti-reflective failure (the optical bonding inside the glass is melting).
Substandard Paintwork: A terrible, undisclosed respray leaving a "fisheye" defect on the door, dozens of tiny bubbles in the paint, plus a small dent on the bonnet.
Interior Damage: A heavy cigarette stench that emerges when it rains, issues with the air conditioning, and a small burn mark on the seat fabric.
When we exercised our Short-Term Right to Reject under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 within 3 days of delivery, their customer service team flatly refused. They falsely claimed in writing that signing a dirty car's handover declaration waived our statutory rights—a direct breach of Section 31 of the CRA 2015. To add insult to injury, they replied to our photographic evidence of an internal hardware screen failure by treating us like fools, giving me instructions on how to clean it properly because they claimed it was just "dirt on the screen."
Wanting to resolve this amicably, we visited the Leeds branch to arrange a direct vehicle exchange for 3 times for another car in their stock where we booked the same room twice and the other branch made a manual reservation. The branch manager refused a swap. Instead, he tried to force a convoluted "repurchase" process that would deliberately make us lose a reservation on our replacement vehicle. We explained several times that this was a return regarding CRA 2015 QUALITY PROBLEMS.
Worse still, the Leeds branch manager outright lied to us about UK law. He claimed that "satisfactory quality" under the CRA 2015 only applies to mechanical parts, and that selling a premium car with a destroyed electronic navigation screen is perfectly normal and not covered. He also had the audacity to dismiss the severely defective paintwork, dents, and smoke damage as purely "cosmetic," falsely stating they are not covered by the CRA 2015 either. The law clearly states that a vehicle must be of satisfactory quality as a whole, including appearance and finish. It is absolutely unacceptable that a customer has to teach a dealership manager how to do his own job!
To make matters worse, they are fully aware that my husband has a physical condition that prevents him from walking long distances, meaning we rely heavily on a vehicle for his commute to work. By refusing to accept the rejection or facilitate a simple swap, they are deliberately leaving a vulnerable customer stranded, distressed, and out of pocket.
On top of this, Big Motoring World is currently withholding a £200 deposit from a previous application and completely ignoring our formal cancellation of a £1,995 extended warranty, which was cancelled well within the statutory cooling-off period.
They are holding our money hostage, refusing to take back a faulty vehicle, and blatantly lying about consumer rights. We have now escalated this to The Motor Ombudsman and the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) via our finance provider.

UPDATE 30/06/2026 17:00 Following this review, the dealership has now refunded the £200 deposit to my card today. However, the vehicle rejection remains active as they are still withholding £1,995 for the cancelled warranty and refusing to take back the faulty car. The case is now with Zopa finance under Section 75.

Hi Fernanda,

I am so sorry to hear that the vehicle's condition did not meet your expectations. All customers have the right to view the vehicle before purchase and can advise of any concerns they may have with the vehicle before leaving our Sales Site. A sales declaration form has been signed by yourself which states that you are happy with the condition and quality of the vehicle.

However, I can see that your complaint has been passed on to the appropriate department, who will review the issues raised and be in contact with you.

In regard to the refund, I apologise for the delay. The finance team are lookinf int thid amd the team will provide an update as soon as they can.

We apologise for any disappointment or frustration that may have been caused.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS...

AVOID AT ALL COSTS...

Never again!! Wouldn't touch them with a barge pole after today.

I arrived at a 12pm for a pre-booked test drive with my wife and children, aged 2 and 4.

This is the only time we had available to test drive a car. "UN-NAMED STAFF" (Ib**y)(Because big motoring world complained at this review because I included his name!!) at Leeds Big Motoring World shook my hand at 15:00 (3 hours after we arrived) and said congratulations on your new vehicle. We settled at £249pcm on a PCP deal for a Polestar 2, with 69k miles on the clock. After waiting around for an hour, after being told my car was getting valeted for me to drive away today, I was told,

"sorry we can only do this on HP, not PCP because the milage is too high... "

This was after he told me everything was sorted shook my hand and said "congratulations on your new car mate" after a painfully slow 4 hours of waiting about because they hadn't even got the car out, or sorted anything out.... To come away with absolutely F all.

I already know the standard reply is going to be "its black horse finance, not us" and that "Ib**y" was only giving you figures as illustration purposes only" which is all b**ocks... Why the hell would someone tell you you've bought the car, shake your hand, only to tell you "Ahh we can't do it now sorry"

Absolutely pi$$ poor customer service, just left waiting about start to finish.

HIGHLY RECCOMEND YOU AVOID AND LOOK ELSEWHERE.... LOOK ON TRUSTPILOT, IT TELLS YOU ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ...

25 June 2026

Following my original review, Big Motoring World attempted to have it removed by claiming it was defamatory. Trustpilot investigated the complaint and decided it was not defamatory, restoring my review.

Ironically, I only received an apology after they had tried to silence my account of what happened, rather than when I was dealing with months of poor communication, inconvenience and unnecessary expense.

I stand by my experience because it is true. Looking through the reviews, it is clear that many other customers report similar issues. I hope Big Motoring World focuses more on improving customer service than trying to remove genuine customer feedback.

A very long process

A very long process and you are pressured into buying warranty when you do not need it.
Jack the finance man was helpful because the warranty on the finance company agreement was wrong it was for an ev and had to be changed to a petrol car.
This made it a long process.

I purchased a Toyota Aygo from Big…

I purchased a Toyota Aygo from Big Motoring World Leeds in April 2026. On the journey home, the vehicle developed serious brake problems and was subsequently found by an independent inspection to require significant brake repairs.

What should have been a straightforward rejection under the Consumer Rights Act turned into a two-month ordeal. During that time I was unable to use the vehicle, yet I still incurred the costs associated with ownership, including insurance and other running expenses.

The situation cost us hundreds of pounds. We had a full tank of fuel in the vehicle when it was eventually returned, incurred additional costs for taxis and buses, and spent countless hours chasing updates and trying to obtain meaningful responses from the company.

Communication was extremely poor throughout. Emails often went unanswered for long periods, and obtaining information required repeated follow-ups. Ironically, the quickest response I received was after posting a negative review.

Although Big Motoring World eventually accepted the rejection and refunded the purchase price, no compensation was offered for the additional expenses, inconvenience, wasted time, or stress caused. Not even a simple apology was provided.

Based on my experience, I would not purchase another vehicle from this company and cannot recommend them to others.

Dishonest

Dishonest.
When purchasing an electric car on our first visit we were told that the 12v battery was flat and that this issue would be fixed if we would like to return and view the car 2 days later. On returning the car seemed to be fine so we trusted the salesperson who again told us the issue was fixed and purchased the car. On getting the car home it became apparent the issue wasn’t fixed and the fault still persisted making the car unusable . Despite several phone calls nobody at Big Motoring World Leeds would return our calls. As is our legal right we then requested a full refund due to the poor service we received and the faulty car. Still nobody returned any calls or emails. Arun, who was supposed to call us had always either gone home or was on a break. The customer service from this company if you have a problem is of the lowest standard and they don’t seem to have any issue about not telling the truth as we were lied to and called them out on it on more than one occasion. If you are lucky enough to get a car that hasn’t any problems you would not be aware of the poor service. It’s only when there’s a problem it becomes apparent. I wouldn’t recommend Big Motoring World in Leeds as it’s a lot of money to put at risk with a company that does not hold customer service or integrity very high up on their values
