To begin with they were great

To begin with they were great
When I was first getting started, I had regular meetings and it was good to have that guidance. However, I went on holiday, and haven’t heard from them since. They called me 2 or 3 times while I was away and I told them I was away and we could talk when I was back, but I haven’t heard since. My teaching is continuing and it’s going good though.

TeacherTee: Informative, helpful and efficient!

My experience with TeacherTee was great as they were so efficient and timely with what needed to be done to join Preply. They were especially helpful with making sure I met all the requirements to join Preply and once I joined, providing a video with useful tips on how to succeed and make money quickly. I found this the excellent springboard to recommencing my teaching career at Preply and I can’t recommend TeacherTee enough for their informative and efficient approach.

My pet peeve is Americanisms

My pet peeve is Americanisms. I am not happy with getting currency charges on my earnings either. The learners find the listening exercises very automated and boring, as do I. After the tutor view is off - I tend to do role play instead, to encourage reading and oracy.

Very unreliable!

Very unreliable!!
I applied for a job, got the interview and I had to produce a video to introduce myself. They said it wasn’t good enough and needed another call to discuss this so it could be corrected. I sent multiple emails but have been IGNORED. I’m so disappointed in them as they seemed like a reputable site. I’m a young person who has been desperate for work, this was my light and I thought it was the end to my problems. Company’s should not be able to do this to people. Please don’t use them.

Dear Liv,

We always aim to improve our processes, especially when it comes to communication. As a small team managing a high demand for tutoring positions, we understand there are areas where we can do better, and we're not afraid to hold our hands up when that’s the case.
However, after thoroughly reviewing your application, we can confirm that we’ve responded to every one of your emails and made multiple calls to you daily, but have not been able to get through.

If you haven’t received our emails, they may have ended up in your junk folder, so we recommend checking there. At this point, without the required video, there’s little more we can do. We truly want to help every candidate succeed, but we also need candidates to meet us halfway by staying responsive.

To anyone reading this review, we encourage you to apply. We have a solid track record of helping young people build their careers, and we're always committed to giving our best to every applicant.

Thanks!
Luke

The company gave me a great business…

The company gave me a great business model, then followed up several times to keep me on track, offering sound advice to keep me motivated and heading upward in my tutoring career. Luke, Fran and the team always make me value myself, and they're only a phone call away if I need them.

Avoid this company!

Definitely do not use this company if you are an experienced teacher. If you are inexperienced and happy to work for £4 an hour and you don't mind being ignored 95% of the times you contact TeacherTee, then definitely work with this company!

Basically, the only platform that TeacherTee seem to refer you to is Preply. They get a "small" commission from this, which is clearly why they don't help you in the slightest once you are live on the platform. I thought having a recruitment agency meant that I could ask them questions about the platform, seeing as they consider themselves the experts, but it takes weeks of contacting them before they reply to you.

They tell you to set your pay for $10USD (they check you have done this TWICE before your profile goes live). As Preply takes such high commission (and you don't get paid a single penny towards trial lessons which are mostly 1hr long), you get paid absolute peanuts, even if you are experienced.

I regret working with TeacherTee so so so much, and I don't want others to make the same mistake.

I am so frustrated that I am being paid £5.50 an hour (I have worked my way up from commission, so this is not the lowest pay you will be receive) when I have lots of experience teaching. Teacher Tee have said that I will need to speak to my students and agree with them to raise the pay if I want to. However, why would you sign up for lessons on $10USD and agree to raise them to a normal fee, such as $25USD? That is ridiculous. I don't want to have these awkward conversations with students, making me look like I'm trying to scam them. I want to be paid a fair pay from the start - and this has not happened.

You also get good visibility at the start with Preply, but now I do not have this advantage. So, even if I changed my pricing now, it is unlikely that new students will find me.

Just to give you an idea of how awfully paid you are with Preply, here are my statistics (as an experienced teacher with over 4 years of online experience and in the freelancing environment). I have worked 33.5 hours, and I have been paid £80.48. Don't forget there is also a fee to remove your money from Preply, so realistically, I have earnt about £77 in total from 33.5 hours of work. Just for reference, if you worked this in a 'usual' job, as a minimum pay requirement in the UK, I should have been £383.24 - and I wouldn't have been charged to withdraw my own salary! This means that I have been paid almost ONE FIFTH OF THE UK MINIMUM WAGE.

I have worked in many freelance roles, but I have never ever ever been paid so abysmally low. In fact, I have never made below the UK legal minimum pay in my multitude of roles. How they think this is acceptable is completely beyond me. Why they thought I shouldn't charge any higher is also beyond me. They say it's "difficult" to tell you how much you should charge, as everyone's case is different, so why are they so certain that everyone should charge 10USD? I messaged them about raising it, but of course there was no response. I am now stuck with 20+ students all paying me £5 an hour.

And, yes, I managed to finally speak to them about it. I was frustrated, but the man on the phone told me it was "my opinion" that I should earn above minimum wage. I found his tone very frustrating and condescending. He was not supportive or understanding. He simply kept telling me that it is possible to speak to my students and raise my prices. His attitude confirmed to me that they do not care about tutors at all. As I have explained above, this is ridiculous and does not even attempt to cover all the losses I have made while working with Preply.

So, just to clarify, DO NOT WORK WITH TEACHER TEE. If you want to sign up for Preply and work for abysmally low wages, go for it. You can do it yourself. And you know yourself better, so you can make it personal to your experience and your needs. But, I don't think that it's acceptable during a cost of living crisis to encourage people to sign up to this platform, especially when Preply takes 100% commission for trial lessons.

Dear Viki,

Thank you for leaving your third review (as you know, the first two were removed by Trustpilot for defamatory and abusive language). We’re grateful that this review allows for a more open conversation.

We understand that you’re upset, and we’re truly sorry that we didn’t meet your expectations. We genuinely care about each teacher we work with, but we’re also human. After weeks of hostility, disrespect, and rude messages, it’s understandable that our consultants were hesitant to engage with you further. When Sean, one of our directors, did reach out, he was met with 10 minutes of continuous abuse, which made it impossible for him to assist you. While we understand you were triggered, it’s important to maintain a respectful level of communication. If that had been the case, we believe you might have had a better experience with us.

Regarding the rate recommendations, we suggest starting at $10 per hour because it works well on Preply’s platform. Teachers who convert 60-70% of their trial classes and work consistently for 25+ hours per week can raise their rates to $20-$25 an hour within their first month. This is a proven approach, not just our opinion.

We also advise teachers to avoid allowing students to book too far in advance at low rates, as it can lead to being locked into lower pay for extended periods—exactly what happened in your case. Had this guidance been followed, your situation may have been different.

In closing, we’re sorry we didn’t meet your expectations, but we stand by our work. We’ve had many successful outcomes and continue to improve and grow. We wish you all the best in your future endeavours.

Never heard from them again

I applied to be a ESL online teacher with this company. Started off well with good communication and they asked me to provide an intro video and picture to build my profile. However once I sent it to them, we had a call scheduled for next steps and they never called me. I never had any contact to say it would be cancelled or postponed so, wondering what happened, I emailed many times and have had ZERO response. Had to give up with them in the end. Not impressed.

Dear Megan,

We are deeply sorry for the experience you’ve had and the frustration it caused. After doing some internal digging, we discovered there was a genuine slip in communication on our end. A mix-up on our calendar led to the missed call, and unfortunately, the follow-up was lost in the process. For that, we take full responsibility.

We’d love the chance to do things right with you personally. Please feel free to reach out directly at hello@teachertee.com, and I will personally ensure that things move forward smoothly from here.

Kind regards,
Sean

Preply has been amazing and supportive!

Preply has been amazing so far! My journey from the start until now has been very supportive, informative and fun! The staff at Preply are wonderful and helpful. The platform is great once you are able to navigate your way around and there is always room for you to progress with weekly seminars and discussions to take part in. I am very happy with Preply and is great for wanting to do something in your spare time or earn that extra side income.

Amazing experience with Teacher Tee

I want to thank Luke and Fran at Teacher Tee for their amazing support! From the moment I applied through Indeed, my experience with their team has been great. As a new online teacher, they have truly gone above and beyond, offering consistent communication via calls, emails, and texts to keep me informed every step of the way. Their flexible scheduling made it easy for me to fit appointments around my day, which I really appreciate. They introduced me to Business English, enabling me to attract business students on Preply, and their guidance has been invaluable throughout the process. I have loved Working with Teacher tee. I’m excited about future opportunities with them. I wholeheartedly recommend Teacher Tee and wish them continued success. Your 5-star support has been incredible—thank you so much!

Corporate timewasters

I was accepted to TeacherTee based on my credentials and then rejected based on my ability to produce a promotional video, or at least that's what I'm assuming as they didn't actually outline a reason. I sent an email asking for feedback, as the application process did take me some time. They just ignored it. This wasn't the only example of discourtesy I experienced with them. They also texted me on a Sunday morning telling me "you have 24 hours to produce the video", like I was being held to some kind of ransom. It's all very sketchy too; having to upload your video to youtube and then set it to private because they want you to "keep it just between you and [them]". They don't care about the subject, about education or about recruitment; for those of you like me trying to escape the corporate influences of the education system, these guys are just as bad.

Update: In their response the Teachertee team has claimed that they sent me multiple prompts to complete my video on time. This is false. I had agreed with their rep. on a Friday afternoon that I would submit my video by the following Tuesday, which I did. Their only prompt was sent to me on the Sunday and was sent in error, as a result of their own poor communication.

Dear Tom,

Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your experience with TeacherTee did not meet your expectations. As a start-up, we are constantly working on improving our processes to ensure they are efficient and fair for all our teachers. Our goal is to support candidates, not to create pressure, and we apologize if our communication made you feel otherwise.

The self-introduction video is an important part of the application process, as it allows us to evaluate your ability to engage with students in an online environment. Regarding the 24-hour deadline, this was sent after multiple prompts and reminders for the video submission went unanswered. Communication goes both ways, and while we do our best to follow up, we also rely on timely responses from candidates to keep the process moving, especially when there are other eager applicants ready to proceed.

As for the request to upload your video to YouTube and set it to private, this is a standard practice in online recruitment. It ensures that your video remains private, accessible only to you and our team.

We also want to address the claim that TeacherTee takes a cut of what tutors earn—this is entirely false. We do not take any portion of a tutor’s earnings. Our compensation comes from a one-time finder’s fee paid by the platforms we work with, not from what tutors earn.

We understand your concern about the lack of feedback, and we apologize for not providing a timely response. We are working on improving this aspect of our process and appreciate your patience.

Thank you again for sharing your experience. We take all feedback seriously as we work to refine our services. Should you wish to discuss anything further, please feel free to reach out to us directly.

Best regards,
TeacherTee Team

This company is deeply suspicious.

This company is deeply suspicious.

They advertise as having work for teachers, then refer you to websites which anyone can access, and waste your time filling in forms again and again, with no relationship with thes companies.

They then ask you not to use your own phone number and amend your email address, which seem they are intercepting your correspondance.

I have no idea what they do, but stay away.

Repeated email to them after they have been found out result in no response.

Following the reply.

It's incredible how quick they respond to these reviews, yet are unable to reply to any emails sent to them.

They also tell you not use your phone number when applying to one of their "partners", these same partners they seemingly have no relationship with, meaning you have to repeat the same application process again and again.

And just to be clear, I wasn't turned down, I chose to end the application so as to remove any association with teachertee.

Hi Iris,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We appreciate the opportunity to clarify your concerns and provide more insight.

We recommend adding a "+tt" before the "@" in your email address, a method known as email subaddressing. This helps us avoid any pattern matches on the systems used by the large companies we partner with. It’s also possible that if you had previously signed up using your original email address or phone number, your profile might have been automatically blocked when you attempted to sign up again through us.

As official partners with these companies, taking these steps is crucial for preventing discrepancies with your application and ensuring that your referral is properly attributed to the support and mentorship services we provide—services that these companies compensate us for.

Regarding your concern about email tracking, we assure you that we have no way of intercepting your emails. The "+tt" in your email address is simply a method for managing email filtering and has no impact on your privacy. We kindly ask that you refrain from making false claims in this regard.

We apologize if your application was denied, but please understand that this is not within our control. We’re here to help, so if you have any further questions, please feel free to reach out.

Thank you for your understanding.

Had call with Fran on the first week of…

Had call with Fran on the first week of August, she asked me to submit the a 1-2 min video by Thursday but due to few issues I couldn’t. However, I did submit it the following Monday. I was told it will take 2 weeks to process everything. Sent them numerous emails however, I have had no response at all. I don’t know what’s happened, but there has been no contact since then. Kind of feels like I wasted my time preparing all these videos and stuff. I am very disappointed at this moment.

Dear Raginee,

I’m truly sorry to hear about the experience you’ve had with us, and I completely understand your disappointment. After looking into the situation, it’s clear there’s been a breakdown in communication on our end, and for that, I sincerely apologize.

I know you’ve put time and effort into preparing your video, and it’s disheartening to hear that we didn’t follow up properly. This isn’t the level of service we aim to provide, and I take full responsibility for the slip-up.

We’d love the opportunity to make it up to you personally. If you’re open to it, please feel free to reach out to me directly at hello@teachertee.com, and I’ll make sure we get things back on track and ensure you’re supported moving forward.

Once again, I’m really sorry this has happened, and I appreciate you bringing it to our attention. I hope we can turn this around and make it up to you!

Kind regards,
Luke

The calls I've had with Fran have been…

The calls I've had with Fran have been very useful. Pointing me in the right direction about how to get more students and improve my profile. One thing to improve on is the email systems after you tell them your profile is approved, one email per day is too much. I am editing this review over a year later. I never got the uber eats voucher I was promised and after signing up to the teacher tee newsletter again, was bombared with more than one email a day. But no really useful information about job positions. It's really only for inexperienced teachers who can't work out how to go on google and look for a job.
