Purple Ruler is a British-American online school and tutoring organisation that works closely with both the Department for Education and Various State governments, as well as individual schools and families, to provide effective learning. Our goal is to ensure that every child has access to education, no matter their financial background or physical and mental health. Purple Ruler ensures that public and private education is adapted to the needs of citizens rather than forcing a universalized approach. We are changing education for a changing world.

Not impressed at all difficult to contact
I don't understand the system.
It's half term they don't go back to school until the 20th and I keep getting emailed to tell me that my child should be in lessons.
I sent in a two support ticket got cryptic messages back one telling me that the school demanded that she'd be there when I contacted my daughter school they told me they're out of the office until the 20th
So I sent another message back to purple ruler and now they've sent me my daughter's login details.
Why is the system so complicated I worry that her education is going to suffer she's got her exams next week
I don't find them very responsive on emails is difficult to contact them and when you do get a phone call from them they're speaking broken English and they don't understand what you're trying to explain to them as I we are an autistic family it makes it quite difficult for me to get an answer from them
I would've preferred to get a female teacher instead of the male but that has not been changed .. as my daughter says she feels uncomfortable and keeps the camera off which is obviously not achieving what she needs when her exams are so close...
Terrible interview process
My experience interviewing with PurpleRuler was extremely disappointing. The session started with no greeting or introduction. I was simply told to run a speed test, and shortly after submitting it the interview was ended with a quick “thank you.” There was no opportunity to introduce myself, discuss my teaching experience, or explain my qualifications.
As a teacher with several years of experience and strong professional references, I expected a more professional and respectful process.
I was also uncomfortable with being asked to share device specifications such as Device ID or Product ID, which can raise device and cyber-security concerns if not handled transparently.
After the interview, I noticed several similar experiences reported by other applicants here, which suggests this may be part of a wider issue with the process.
I hope the company improves how it engages with educators applying to work with them.
MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESSES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The work environment within company is amazing. Regular feedback and support. Besides the fact that I have complete freedom on how I design my lesson materials, I also love that we can constantly engage with fellow teachers.
Purple Ruler is a wonderful company and one that I highly recommend for teachers looking to teach online.

Good experience overall
Good experience overall. Lessons run smoothly, communication is clear, and safeguarding is well covered. It’s been a steady, positive addition to our provision.

Purple Ruler as demanding but fair, and genuinely invested in both students and staff
I’m a South African teacher who has been working for Purple Ruler for 2 years now, and Purple Ruler is not my full-time employer, but it has become a very important part of my professional life. Over the past year, the experience has been overwhelmingly positive. There are clear structures, strong pedagogy and a real effort to support both learners and teachers. I’ve been given genuine opportunities to grow, from trying new programmes and age groups to taking on more responsibility and developing my skills in SEND, safeguarding and feedback.
I won’t pretend the workload is light. There is a lot to do, and expectations around planning, reporting, and quality are high. But the difference with Purple Ruler is that management actually engages with this; they listen, offer guidance, adjust timelines where possible, and help you prioritise so that the tasks feel manageable rather than impossible. Communication has improved a lot, and I feel more supported and “seen” than I have with many other online teaching companies.
Overall, I’d describe Purple Ruler as demanding but fair, and genuinely invested in both students and staff. If you are prepared to work hard and care about doing things properly, it’s a place where you can grow, feel part of something meaningful and still keep the good vibes.

Amateurish interview
I had an interview with an academic leader. He missed our first interview and blamed the calendar. We had the interview after rescheduling it, he turned up and he looked like a child, Asked me some generic questions instead of asking me questions to challenge my experience as a teacher. I felt that the interview was very amateurish. I received an E-mail from them but didn't open it.

I applied for a job with these goons to which they replied that they wanted to interview with me, then 24 hours later changed their minds ... I am so happy that it didn't go further than that, especially after reding all the negative information about the company!

Do Not Recommend
Teachers will be micromanaged and spoken down to. There is more of a concern on client relations than making a difference in the students they enroll. The pay is very very poor and unstable, and the unpaid hours making lessons and attending workshops. I would not recommend this company unless they seriously overhaul their management and value their teaching staff. A fantastic idea that has been ruined by the people running it, and I can confirm that most of the good reviews are written by management.

LISTEN TO NEGATIVE REVIEWS (NOT THE FAKE POSITIVE ONES)
This is an extremely horrible company to work for. They hire people from my country to pay them less, even without qualifications. They are exploitive, and will drop good teachers if they can pay someone less. The management only care about how much money they can make. Please listen to the negative reviews, and not the 'positive' reviews that the CEOS have emotionally manipulated management to write, or even have written themselves (see below.) Cand**e makes the teachers feel bad. I am pretty sure they use AI for all their documents.

Absolute waste of time to all ESL teachers avoid this company. They make lots of false promises and steal Whales English courseware. The courseware is so boring I feel sorry for the kids. Also they withhold your pay if you miss classes and have barely any students. Extremely unprofessional I'm so happy it was a side job and I left after Month 2. They are always looking at ways to deduct your bonuses. Absolutely horrendous company I only got 4 students and then that dropped to 3. AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!

Absolutely unprofessional they gave me an acceptance offer and came three days later to say there had been a technical glitch on the system. I reached out to the HR department to no avail. Highly disappointed and I would not recommend them.
