I rented a car in Miami airport , Yanet and a guy with a Chivas soccer team “helped us” at counter, they were incredible rude, especially the guy who was actually rude to everyone he was encountering with.
Their insurance policies are an absolute ripoff and they basically won’t let you leave or get a car without paying stupid amounts of money. PLEASE do yourself a favor and never rent with these guys, especially in Miami.
Also we requested to speak to the manager and he/she was nowhere to be found.

Don’t rent a car at rent a wreck!!!

So we saw a deal to rent a car for a very cheap price. They picked us up from MCO Airport, but the shock came when we heard about the additional prices. You were obligied to take a toll pass and an extra insurance above the one we already booked. We should only pay the $200 extra (deposit excluded), but ended up hearing about a price above $2.000 (deposit exclused). That was the lowest they could offer. Don’t rent a car here. Save yourself some extra stress and ofcourse money.

This is by far theworst experience ever with a car rental company!!!
Our flights were delayed, we arrived close to 2 hours later to pick up our vehicle. Ourtrip was not for leisure. It was an emergency trip we had to make. First of all, we were second in line and it took forever to get to the counter, we were exhausted and stressed to find outourcar was no longer available as they considered we were a "no show" so the car was rented to somebody else. Theyoffered another car that costed 4 times our initial rental and had all kinds of fees and deposit was $2000!!!!!!!!! We had to decline and we were still charged a fee "no show" fee of $75!!!!! It is outrageous to jave the right to steal from people like this!!!! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THISWRECK COMPANY TO ANYBODYYYYYY! KEEP AWAYYYYYYY

Van broke down and they refuse to reimburse us for towing and repair

When we picked up our van, the check engine light was on. We pointed this out and they assured us it had been resolved at it would be fine. The van broke down the next day in the countryside. We paid for a tow and the repair at the dealership, which they assured us would be reimbursed. We have provided them with receipts for reimbursement, and after 2 months of emailing and reminders Anna continues to ignore us.

Accelerator pedal fell off whist driving

We've used Rent-a-wreck 9-seater vans from Oslo since 2018. The conditional of the vans has always been poor but this summer it was very disappointing. This was especially given that we had paid £1,750 for a two week rental. Three times we experienced a loss of power on our VW Carravelle. The final occasion occurred as we were going through a hill tunnel and when we stopped we saw that the accelerator pedal was only attached by one remaining screw - it seems it had been working its way off throughout our trip! Despite numerous attempts to get some kind of response from Rent-a-Wreck they have ignored me every time. Absolutely shocking customer service. We would no longer recommend this company unless you are happy for the vehicle to fall apart whilst driving!

Misleading Charges and Unjustified Fees

The prices displayed do not reflect what is actually charged on-site. My initial rate was $150, but when I arrived at the counter, the total rose to over $450 due to added fees for insurance and the SunPass. There is a complete lack of transparency, with pricing deliberately hidden until the final step.

Upon return, although the vehicle was brought back in good condition, I was charged $500 + tax for a minor scratch under the vehicle, likely caused by the road itself. This kind of damage should be considered minor and should not incur such excessive charges.

I also find it unacceptable that customers are forced to purchase insurance which offers virtually no coverage, further contributing to a sense of dishonesty in the process.

I strongly advise others not to sign anything without fully reviewing the details, and to keep all communications documented.

I kindly request that you review this matter promptly and get back to me with an explanation or adjustment regarding the charges incurred.

Worst Car Rental Experience Ever

Worst Car Rental Experience Ever

Rent a Wreck is by far the worst car rental company I have ever used, and I strongly advise everyone to avoid it. The entire operation feels like a scam from start to finish.

To begin with, the prices advertised on apps like Expedia and Booking.com are nothing but bait. They lure you in with rates such as $22 per day “with no hidden fees,” but once you arrive, the situation changes completely. The location itself is in terrible condition, with a foul odor and an unwelcoming atmosphere. The employee at the counter was extremely unprofessional, displaying both a bad attitude and poor customer service skills.

After making a booking online, you are suddenly required to pay for additional charges that were never disclosed upfront. They demand $30 per day for insurance, plus $15 per day for tolls, on top of the original rental cost. The process is unnecessarily complicated and time-consuming—I was left waiting for nearly an hour.

In the end, I canceled my reservation because the total cost ballooned to almost $500, compared to the advertised $22 per day. This company should not even be in business. To make matters worse, they impose mileage limits, charging $1 for every extra mile, which is absurd for a rental service.

Rent a Wreck is a disgrace to the industry. No traveler should waste their time, money, or energy with such a poorly run and deceptive company. After a long trip, when most reputable companies are fully booked, the last thing anyone needs is the stress and disappointment of dealing with a company like this.

Avoid Rent a Wreck at all costs.

Avoid at all costs

Avoid at all costs. Despite showing proof of insurance and a chat transcript from my insurer confirming my coverage transfers to rentals, I was forced to pay a $20/day “admin fee” for declining their insurance. After paperwork, my kids and I sat in the lobby for over an hour with no communication—only to have an employee point to a car outside as if I should’ve known it was mine. The lobby felt unsafe, with women loitering who appeared to be sex workers, making things extremely uncomfortable.

No one inspected the car with me; it had many dings, and I noted all deep ones. On return, they demanded $500 for a tiny scuff—clearly there at pickup—that could be buffed out easily (photo of $500 “damage” attached).

Predatory, unprofessional, and scammy. Never again.

I encourage anyone else who has had similar experiences with this company’s predatory and unethical practices to share their story (Google, Yelp, BBB, Trustpilot, ConsumerAffairs, Ripoff Report, ComplaintsBoard, and social media), contact Rent-A-Wreck corporate in Maryland directly to let them know how severely this location is damaging their brand, and if you booked through a site like Expedia, also contact them to report that their system is listing a scam location.

Terrible Customer Service!

I rented a car from Rent a Wreck in Carolina, Puerto Rico on March 15, 2025, and returned it on March 20, 2025 per the rental agreement. As part of the written agreement, I paid a $250 "refundable" deposit that has yet to be returned to me (today is August 6, 2025). I contacted the company and asked why I had not receive my refund and they claim that I didn't return it on time. Per their request, I happily produced documentation to prove that I returned the car on time. Since then, I've sent multiple emails asking for follow up information regarding my refund, and I am repeatedly told that they, "have passed the information on to the 'corresponding department,' and I will be notified as soon as the correction can be made." While $250 may not seem like a lot of money to some, it is a significant amount to me. I have waited patiently for them to remedy the issue for five months, and I am no closer to receiving my deposit. At this point, I believe it is fair of me to claim that this quality of customer service is inexcusable and unprofessional. I highly recommend that you avoid Rent a Wreck, and the car rental companies it is associated with, which include; NP Auto Group, Allied Car Rental, Next Car Rental. Moving forward, I will give my business to companies that prioritize customer service.
Update ( 8/10/2025): I quickly received an email following my negative review of the company. Their email claimed that they would see to it that the issue was taken care of, but that was almost a week ago, and I still have not received further information about my refund. Based on my own experience, and the other negative reviews, it is clear that it will take more insistence on my part to receive the $250.00 that is owed to me. Please heed warning, and learn from my experience; avoid this company at all costs!

Do not book here

Do not book here — staff ignored me and company ignored proof.

I had a reservation at Rent-A-Wreck Tampa and was treated with total disrespect. The employee refused to help and stayed on his phone. I took a photo of the interaction and submitted it — and the company still denied everything.

They claimed I was at fault and ignored all evidence. They never addressed the photo or footage, never offered a refund, and never took action against the staff member. Just lies and deflection.

Horrible customer service and zero accountability. Not worth your time or money.

I thought I would give them a chance

I thought I would give them a chance. I didn't think it could be too complicated. I rent cars all the time with my work trips. I travel frequently so I kind of know what to expect. One thing I wasn't sure about this time was how to manage road tolls. The representative recommended me a service, and I agreed to it and signed a paper. When I returned the car, it wasn't linked to my agreement. Now I don't know what to expect from the tolls. All in all, very inefficient process.

The worst car rental experience I've ever had

I waited a few days to fill this out in order to remove the emotion from it. This was without a doubt the worst vehicle rental experience I have ever had. Here is a brief summary:

It took 2 hours and 45 minutes from the time we arrived to when we left Rent-A-Wreck with our vehicle. Long line to check in, long process where they try to upsell you on all kinds of cost-adds, and another long line to actually get the vehicle.

The Expedia rental quote was $310.32 "including all mandatory taxes and fees". The total invoice came to $512.57 not including toll charges, which I did request.

Invoice line items are: Time, mileage, collision damage waiver (which I expressly did not request, as I have and pay for my own insurance, and was told "the car doesn't leave the lot without our insurance on it"), daily tolls (I said yes to this one), vehicle license fee, license recovery fee, customer facility charge, airport conc. recover fee (no idea what this is), state/local tax, municipal tax, road side assistance (which they said was "included"), glass and tire coverage, toll activation (they left that out of the conversation), and preparation fee (I need to pay for them to prepare their car for rental).

The car was dirty, there was sticky stuff in the cup holders and other surfaces, and a light was on indicating oil change overdue. Scuffs and damage to the outside of the vehicle, which we took photos of.
Returning the car was much quicker but still markedly slower than any other company I've rented from. We drove the car into the return lane, waited while an employee came out and asked us if we were good, asked us for the paperwork, which we provided, then handed it to us and told us to bring it into the front desk to check the car in.

We waited in line to do this, at which point the manager asked us if the car was inspected. I did not know what she meant, she got annoyed and asked if one of her employees had looked at the car when we brought it in. We said yes. I asked about the aforementioned charges and was told they are all mandatory and there was nothing she could do.
I sent five live chat requests through the Rent-A-Wreck website and never get connected with an agent.

I called the help line three times, spent 40 minutes on hold, and was transferred back and forth between different departments without a solution.

If you are visiting San Juan, I would strongly advise not to rent from Rent-A-Wreck, Priceless, Allied, or any of the other associated car rental companies on that strip. Stick with the agencies at the airport if at all possible.

Absolutely terrible service

Absolutely terrible service!
We rented from rent a wreck in San Juan and it was a disaster the moment we entered the store, the wait time was over an hour, however I remained patient as everyone arrives off of a flight at the same time. Once I got to the counter I was in a rush to get where I needed to be, I was asked a few questions about insurance and I opted on an add on which was tolls, they took it upon themselves to add 2 other fees (tyre insurance and road side assistance) this is not a requirement when renting, nor was I asked if I was happy to add it on, I tried to call customer service and they recommended I go into the store to fix this, I was over an hour drive away, so I let them get away with ripping me off, when I dropped the car back off on my last day, all was good with the car, after 11 days I still have not recieved my deposit back and I have been told to wait an extra 10 days. This is appalling service, I DO NOT RECOMMEND USING THIS COMPANY!
