Reserved car not available. Placed in huge SUV (extra gas cost). State police ran license plate and it was uninsured. Told manager at Nu and he said go ahead and call the police, we have fleet coverage, I’m not offering you anything, including the additional insurance we paid for. Shitty, shitty company with zero customer service or concern.
Mahdi Atoyb is courteous and very helpful.
I realize I am absolutely waisting my time writing this review as there are multiple, similar complaints from other disgruntled customers, and each has received the same horrible canned company response. This is a clear bait and switch scam they do to so many other customers when the opportunity presents itself. I reserved a Camry or equivalent through Priceline. My insurance was $16 per day and the car was $29.09 per day. With taxes, my total paid was $378.48 for 5 days. BUT, when I was done, I ended up paying just over $1,000!! When I got to PU Car after having to take a shuttle to get there, the PU employee at the counter confidently and comfortably said he could put me in a larger vehicle for the same price, which I agreed to. And here’s where the bait and switch occurred. Yes, I know I’m going to get the same canned response PU provides everyone so please don’t insult my intelligence telling me I need to “read the fine print.” You’re right and shame on me for trusting PU Car would do what other trusting, reputable companies do, and talk through the significant changes I was about to sign for. What PU clearly did was a form of bait and switch and I do believe PU took full advantage of me knowing after taking my long flight that there’s almost NO chance I or anyone for that matter would read everything as they are tired and just want to get the heck out of there!!! Shame on you for continuing your bait and switch tactic. Yes, I signed and initialed your document, 100% on me!! Agreed!! I ended up paying $628.27 more than what I initially thought! Your company fully understands human nature and knows people think your employee offered such a great deal only to totally stick it to them via the insurance. Yes, I will file a complaint with the FTC for the bait and switch tactic and yes, I will dispute the charges with my credit card company…..but PU will stand behind, “He signed the contract which outlines the charge.” We didn’t do anything wrong.” Yes you did! You absolutely and fully understood what the VAST majority of customers would do and that’s to blindly sign. My fault for doing so…lesson learned and 100% on me for trusting PU Car, and signing. Let me ask though, how does it feel having such a ridiculously low rating? I now know PU has a HORRENDOUS reputation!!! Is the company proud to have so many unhappy customers rather than work on improving the customer experience??? Again, a waste of my time for posting this but yes, all I can do is what I said above and share with others about my absolutely horrendous personal experience using PU. I’ve requested a call from a manager but expect absolutely nothing but wasting my time outlining my horrible experience only to be told, “I reviewed your signed contract and you agreed to these terms.” All I can hope for is PU reviews their practice and do what they can to improve the customer experience moving forward. Let me ask, and please do provide a response to this, what actions has your company taken in the past to avoid this unfortunate situation from happening to other customers? Please share here, what those steps and actions you have taken. And please don’t just simply say, “We review these matters with our employees as they occur.” I’ll ask these questions when the manager calls but do not expect anything but further aggravation😔
This has been the worst car rental experience. The attendant was very condescending. There were hidden fees including an extra loss insurance fee of almost $400 for the week. Although I used my personal insurance, that extra insurance is new and is not covered by most. I have the Florida sun pass. I was told I couldn’t use it that I had to purchase theirs for 12.99 a day. I got the car at 1/2 a tank. At return, at around 3.45, the shuttle left as I was parking and left me standing in the parking lot. Their door was closed and I dropped the keys in a drop box. I had to take Uber to the airport. Never Again!
I recently rented a car from them and I had a good experience with them.
I have had a horrible experience. I recently rented a car in Salt Lake City and was charged 30% more for my rental for being 2 hours late on my return. I called them ahead of time to let them know and I was told I would not be charged any additional fees. I was totally scammed by them, and I will tell everyone I know not to use them. Its bad business to lure customers in with prices and then scam them when it's time to pay. Not cool at all.
picked up my car and was forced into rental insurance which I’d already purchased before I rented the car. Associate insisted I needed to purchase. Upgraded me for the inconvenience. It’s a brand new trailblazer- paper plate. I got pulled over 3 times in my first 30 hours of being in Phoenix by 3 different police officers. Couldn’t read my plate. Took the car back up to Nu to switch it out. They gave me a horribly busted Chevy Malibu. Dented. Bald tires. Needs an oil change. Key is never detected unless you restart the car. Just didn’t feel safe in a car that’s really not maintained. Especially after the inconvenience.
I dropped my first rental off so suddenly- I left my water bottle in the car. I see the Trailblazer in the lot as I’m dropping off my car. Upon returning the Malibu on my scheduled return- I went and met with the same associate to see if they had a lost and found. He briefly checked and when I mentioned the car was still in the lot- he brushed me off and said it’s probably already been rented out and sent me on my way. Didn’t have the courtesy to check if it was in the lot.
Customer service just left so much to be desired. I felt unheard and not valued in every situation I had with Nu.
I cannot believe I spent my money with this company. Spend it on literally any other car rental company.
Upon sending this to Nu customer service. I received a $100 refund for the inconvenience. They said no further compensation will be provided. They have told me on each occasion that I can speak with a manager and each time I’ve been handled by a regular associate. This information has all been provided for transparency purposes.
Terrible experience with this company and I would urge anyone never to use them. I booked through Expedia thinking that they will only list reputable companies but I was very wrong.
On arrival at the airport, someone came and picked us up and drove us to their 'office' which is about 15min away in the middle on no-where with not even a board displaying their name. We waited around 90min to be seen. Everything was fully paid for through Expedia but they requested a card for damage deposit which was fine. They wanted to hold nearly £2k damage deposit which we agreed to as well but then they said that the card was not going through and said the only way to get a car is to start a new contract and forgo our contract with Expedia. We contacted the credit card company and they informed us that there were no restrictions on the credit card and a deposit hold hasnt even been attempted.
We lost most our day dealing with this scam and thankfully decided to go with a different company who were amazing- GoRentCarMarrakesh.
Scam, I should have read reviews here. Gave me an old car, lower tier car, empty gas tank, charged me more. Why is this legal? Very poor expirience starting a trip in San Diego.
Ladies and gentlemen. SCAMMERS. If someone sends you a confirmation email that your car has been reserved, without any disclaimer that if you don't pay online, it doesnt guarantee the car, I take it that it's reserved. I came 50. min early, but they didn't offer to wait. They said your car isn't available because you didn't pay online, so we don't have it. You have to upgrade for $150 or higher. Emailed them to dispute it, probably six times, they only said "you came early"....What a BS.......NOPE NEVER AGAIN

DO NOT RENT HERE. They’re a scam. Set up in an abandoned bank , only option is to speak to a virtual representative. Super sketchy. They charge a large deposit when you pick it up. The car was not nice, it had obviously re-painted panels. They used so much air freshener it made my eyes water. Charged me for insurance, then when I got a flat tire 4 miles from the office, they charged me for a new tire. I put the spare on myself. They then forged my signature on the damage report. Go with a known company that operates at the airport. Don’t be fooled by the low upfront price. I booked through Expedia, not realizing it was such a bad company.

I had one of the worst car rental experiences I’ve ever had with NU Car Rentals, and I would not recommend them to anyone.
First, they advertise themselves as an airport rental company, but they are not truly accessible like other airport rentals. They close at 7:00 PM and do not clearly communicate this upfront. I missed the 6:30 PM pickup window because I reasonably expected an airport-connected service to accommodate typical flight schedules. When I arrived, there was no support, no flexibility, and no attempt to make the situation right.
Customer service was extremely poor. The representative I interacted with, Neidi, was dismissive and unhelpful. There are no real on-site customer service agents—everything is handled virtually, and the staff present are primarily there to clean and hand off vehicles. When I asked basic, reasonable questions, I was repeatedly told, “I’m just doing my job,” without any explanation of policies. That is not customer service.
They also nickel-and-dime you at every turn. There is a $500 hold placed on your card, which is excessive—nearly the cost of the rental itself. On top of that, they have strict and unreasonable policies around drop-off times. Even returning the vehicle later on the same day can result in additional charges.
Another major issue is their insurance policy. Do not waste your money purchasing coverage through third parties like Priceline—they do not accept it if you are a local renter. In fact, if you do not use your own personal insurance, they will not rent to you at all. Even for out-of-state renters, they only accept coverage purchased directly through them. This is not clearly explained ahead of time and feels intentionally misleading.
To make matters worse, when I raised concerns about these issues, there was no effort to compensate, assist, or provide any form of resolution.
Overall, this company lacks transparency, customer care, and basic professionalism. I will never use NU Car Rentals again, and I strongly advise others to avoid them unless you want to deal with hidden policies, poor service, and unnecessary charges.

Well, now I get the low rating. They say you get what you pay for, right?
Arrived at airport during a non peek time, and I was the only person not to fit on the shuttle that was waiting. Was told 7 min for next one. That actually meant 15 min.
Finally got to the NUCAR location and arrived to a long line. To my dismay, the line is all the people from the shuttle I didn’t get on! That goes to show you how inconvenient this place is. Thank goodness I’m not in a hurry to get anywhere.
I have no idea why things are taking so long to check people in and why the lobby is full of people sitting!?
Now I’m concerned about the car I might get….. I am predicting I’m going to be standing in this line at least another 30 min!!!
Coming back to tell more.
Finally got to the desk and we immediately discussed the car I reserved. Interesting, as he kept talking he started referencing a different brand and type of car. I corrected him and then he told me “we don’t have the car, so we are giving you an SUV” I had reserved a sedan! He didn’t even give me the courtesy to explain to me. They didn’t have my car. He just automatically started talking about a different car with absolutely no explanation.
I was irritated. I totally understand that at times rental cars run out of the cars you rent but they always give you a like for like a car. I reserved a sedan. I do not want an SUV. He was rude about it and even offered to shuttle me back to the airport so I could go to a different rental company.
I was then pressured to get insurance. I refused multiple times and the person told me of scenarios of how MY insurance isn’t enough… including I would be charged $114 a day while the car is getting repaired even if my insurance covered damage!
He then told me that they found a car on the lot that I reserved. The next thing they do is give you the key fob and tell you to walk into a parking lot filled with cars and keep clicking the alarm button until you hear the car. Are you serious?
I finally found the car and it is the worst conditioned rental car I’ve ever rented. Dinged up everywhere, I took a video to make sure they wouldn’t claim I did any of the damages.
Bear in mind, my rental was to be a luxury sedan!
Never would I ever recommend this company!

Worst car rental experience ever. And I haven't even started my trip! I needed a simple refund as I didn't need the car any longer for my trip. These clowns wouldn't let me cancel! Then they acquiesced and said I could cancel for a $25 'admin fee'. So for me to get a refund I have to pay $25 for some bloke to make 3 mouse clicks, and jump through a phone tree at least 8 times. I refuse to pay their silly fees.

Got me once...NEVER again. The reviews are true...the price may not be the price. If you cared about your customers and your reviews you would quit with the surprise charges. They also REQUIRE that you use their easypass - I have my own easy pass. I don't need to pay additional to use their easy pass.

I have mixed feeling about NU Car Rentals in Denver International Airport.
Good part: great value for sure, car is pretty new and no problem. Shuttle bus is frequent and had no issue. Not pushing to sell any extra service.
Other parts: service is not great. First, the location is further than other car rentals so it's at least 10 minutes more driving to there from the airport. Then I have to wait long at the counter since they only had one worker there at night(and closes at 12:30am). They are small and not well organized. For example, they even don't know where the car is located(though it's a small parking lot). You need to use the remote to locate the car. The returning process is very simple though, just drop the key, left the car in the parking lot and leave.
Overall, I had good experience.

NU Salt Lake City is a poorly managed franchise! It is not on site (airport) like the reputable rental companies. There is a long walk, then a shuttle to the off-site counter. Only one person working the counter and a long line (up to half-hour wait). At the counter they pressure customers to buy additional services and when you decline, they will add them to the contract anyway. They then turn a small screen around for you to review all of the fine print, and pressure you to initial in a dozen locations electronically to keep the line moving. Their office and shuttle do not open until 8AM, so plan on taking an Uber back to the airport for morning flights. After the fact, I received an inflated bill with the charges for services I specifically told them I didn't want. They added it in to one of the fine print initial areas, highlight the line item and email it to you. Customer service will not provide information to escalate. Good luck chasing your money! Avoid the hassle - DO NOT RENT from this location - if you do - DON'T trust them, take the time to read every line of the contract!!!

Rented a car in San Diego 3/12/26 suppose to pick up car at 11:00 got there about 11:30. Did not have full size sedan so they upgraded to a Nissan Kicks SUV, drove off of lot and immediately met with low tire pressure. Went to Valero gas station not able to use air hose so went back to NU (less than 0.2) miles. Filled the tires with air..guy says any further issues just take to any Discount tire, we have an account they will fix the tire at no cost to you" we leave and start touring around San Diego...light comes on after about 2 hours...go to Discount tire...4.5 hour wait they couldn't fit us in that day..went to nearby gas station filled with air checked tires no light on took off...spent friday at zoo...Saturday morning woke up tire low so bright and early we go to discount tire...they get us in...then the BS starts with NU...they don't have an account they wanted me to pay for the new tire (had a screw in it) Customer service gentleman had the personality of a concrete sidewalk said that he has never heard of anyone needing tires fixed after only driving on them for a short time...maybe it was the way I was driving and that NU was not responsible for the tires...the discount tire people were great. Got the new tire, driving around town...parked on public street paid for parking..come out to police giving NU a ticket as the tags expired 2025. The whole experience with NU was terrible. Will NEVER rent from them again.

Absolutely horrible first they are not at phoenix rental car center you have to wait and take a very small shuttle to a far off site lot in a bad area of town. Second they have a lot of hidden fees!!! They tell you one thing then after you return vehicle you see extra special fees. They will not refund you. Read the small print really well and don’t sign anything Very disappointed that Priceline is a partner with them. You think you are saving alittle by using them for car rental but you will pay more in the long run. Never use them!!!

Horrible customer service and run around. They 2 times hung up and never called back. No supervisors to talk to and will never ever rent from them again. Booking from Expedia and they kept telling me to call Expedia to make cancelation and then Expedia would point me back at NuCar. You have been warned, I wish I would have looked at reviews before booking.
