This was my second total hip replacement, so I was more aware what to expect this time around albeit at a different hospital. What I perhaps wasn’t expecting was just how friendly, caring and even... See more

IF I COULD GIVE 0 STARS I WOULD. l had a previous NHS appointment with Practice Plus Barlborough Hospital with Mr Al-tamimi the spinal surgeon there.l was with my Wife and recorded it.
Mr Al-tamimi looked at the letter from the Claremont hospital from 2014 having a revisional failed L5/S1 surgery. I also had letters from Mr Mathius Radatz a Senior neurosurgeon at the Thornbury hospital Sheffield who sent me for an mri scan with contrast in 2021 and then told me the results. He said that l have come to him too late and was very sympathetic. He said that my L5/S1 was knackered to put it bluntly and that there were 2 masses of scar tissue around the disc he called fibrosis and any attempt to remove it could cause me loss of motor function so he couldn't get to the disc for the scar tissue and said that he wouldn't advise anyone else to attempt it.
I then saw Mr Edwards the orthopedic surgeon at Thornbury who agreed that my Chronic back pain and left leg sciatica with /buttock pain was radiating was from my S1 spine and all the scar tissue which he confirmed in a letter.
When l saw Mr Al-tamimi he said that l had not just one problem but 2 which he said was in my left buttock. So hearing that l decided to go for a specialist Mri Scan that was brand new in Leeds called a 3T Deep Resolve Tissue Scan.
The results came back negative. He also said Chesterfield Royal Hospital had given me the wrong Nerve Root Block back in 2016 & should have been a S1 nerve root block. So l looked for the best consultant on their website and came up with Dr Thomaz Bendinger. But unbeknown to me l didn't realise he is Primarily in the Sheffield Hospitals. They used my NHS appointment with Mr Al-tamimi. (ONLY 10 MINUTES WHICH IS THE SHORTIST CONSULTATION I HAVE EVER HAD) and then the NHS Pre-op.I had the 3T scan in March with results the following week with Living care who were very helpful. So it turned out that the 2 Thornbury Surgeons were both correct & Mr Al-tamimi was wrong about 2 problems as they said it was one problem radiating from my spine. That was nearly £500.
I booked the S1 nerve root block with Mr Bendinger and was told his first available appointment was May 20th so l booked it. I was told that Mr Al-tamimi had to refer me even though he wrote it in the NHS Report before discharging me. Catherine Mosley who said because l had extra documents l emailed her which were the same documents that he had already seen but because l sent in the Reprort of the 3T scan from LivingCare in Leeds.I then sent numerous emails to Catherine asking if they had received my 3T MRI scans from the end of March.I even had the approval of chrysalis finance the company they use for the procedure which l paid half towards the treatment and the rest with chrysalis finance. After all the phone calls l finally got an email back from Catherine because I wanted Dr Bendinger (Pain management consultant) to examine the 3T Deep Resolve Tissue Mri Scan as it had over 300 images. Catherine sent me an email on April 17th saying Unfortunately Mr Bendinger is not back with us until the 20th of May & will view the MRI scan on the day.(WHICH HE DIDN'T)but I have emailed him your information.(HE OBVIOUSLY DIDN'T READ THIS EMAIL THAT KATIE HARRIS THE MANAGER WAS ALSO TAGGED IN ).Then l received another email on April 22nd saying Mr Bendinger has said he has no option to review my Mri before the 20th May & that he will review it on the day of the injection. So as a back up l sent a Sars request to LivingCare in Leeds and immediately got the digital images which my Son put on my tablet as he does reports on his laptop all the time as he is a Police Officer and downloaded me an app so l could view them.
The day of the injection came and Dr Bendinger came around l asked him if he had seen the 3 T Mri & showed him my tablet and started a brief look through. It was evident to me he had not viewed the mri on the day like Catherine's Email said he would. He even went through the Letters from Mr Radatz & Mr Edwards. Even the letters from 2012 from the failed surgery. My son kept passing him my information. He told me if your nerves are damaged for so long that the injection will do nothing on May 20th the day of the injection immediately after reading my information he was supposed to already have had in April. It was clear to me this was the first time he had seen my information (Notes)from the way he was reading through each one.lf he had my information April (as the email said he did)when l wanted his opinion back then.l would have had time to cancel it.l also recordered conversation with Dr Bendinger.
I made a formal complaint with Mrs Pendragon and they deleted my emails l saved.Which l wouldn't have thought they could do? Mrs Pendragon told me they had done everything correctly which l disagree with.
So now Chrysalis Finance said that they will do their own internal investigation.

The whole day case procedure carried out really well. From arrival, pre-op, post-op and discharge. Very pleasant, friendly and professional staff. Highly recommended if you have a choice in where your operation is carried out.

A bit of delay due to unforeseen circumstances however, overall excellent service.

Staff were always friendly and professional and generally appointments times well adhered to. Procedures were explained and time given for questions. I was made to feel relaxed and comfortable

From first contact I felt comfortable in trusting Practice Plus Group to do the surgery. I was supported throughout the various stages and very pleased with the operation. My new knee is working well. The staff were all very helpful and I did not have to wait at any of the appointments. I fully recommend Practice Plus group

Reply from Practice Plus Group Hospitals
Efficiency and time taken for whole process was probably 20-25 mins from arrival to leaving. And the scan itself was 15mins of that.
Friendly staff.

Hospital easy to find coming from Gloucestershire. No fee to park.
Went in to my appointment on time.
Paper filling exercise a bit painful but I’m used to that Seems it then needed inputting on the computer slight waste of time. Procedure went well as I was put out. Unfortunately I was then sent on my way still full of anaesthetic. First realised where I was back in the waiting room. No recollection of coming out of theatre. I have had this procedure many times at BRI and always wake up in a bed on a ward and made to wait half an hour before I was allowed to go. I felt I was pushed out of the door far too soon. Slept all the way home in the car. Luckily came to no harm !

I was sent to this hospital as an NHS patient. I had a hip replacement last year and feel now, nearly a year later, that I am ready to give a review. The nursing staff on the ward in the daytime were awful. Very abrupt and unkind. I pulled the cord one time for help and was told off for doing this. Not what you want when you're in pain and feeling low after a big operation. Where is the care from nurses that you expect? Not on day shift obviously! The night
staff were much nicer and helpful. The operating staff were also very abrupt and the Anaesthetist didn't even speak to me or reassure me or tell me when he was going to put in the needle and was abrupt in his handling of me. I felt very nervous about the operation but no one cared or tried to reassure me. I felt like a piece of meat and just a number waiting to have my operation. I couldn't wait to go home. But not all was bad. The physio therapists were a lot more caring and helpful. Also my consultant was very good. Reception staff were also welcoming and helpful.

My consultant was such a friendly person. After my MRI he explained my results and talked to me in a matter that I understood, i felt at ease asking questions. My experience at this hospital has been amazing

Nurse Gayle assessed my wound thoroughly and changed my dressing. It was done professionally and kept me informed throughout the process.

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE
Lucky if you get the correct surgery right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing
