P&O Cruises Reviews 

Visiting the Norwegian fjords aboard P&O Iona was our first time on a cruise ship and also our first visit to Norway.

Norway—what little we saw of it—was stunning, especially the scenery within and surrounding the fjords. We visited Stavanger, Ålesund, Olden, and Haugesund. The first three stops were each unique and equally amazing. The sail-away leaving Olden aboard Iona was probably our favourite part, as we spent 90 minutes cruising back out to sea through the fjords.

In Stavanger, we took the fjord cruise to Lysefjord and Preikestolen, which was fantastic. In Ålesund, we used the hop-on hop-off bus and visited the aquarium, while in Olden, we took the Loen Skylift and went to see the glaciers. Haugesund, however, was a disappointment as there is not a lot to see, especially if the weather is bad. P&O use this port as the first or last stop before sailing back to the UK, as the ship is too high to fit under the bridge into Bergen and too large for smaller ports. So it is basically a three-town fjord cruise with a fourth added to suit P&O.

The ship… it’s a floating hotel with everything you could possibly need. Bars, restaurants, pools, an excellent gym, cinema, and plenty for young kids. The bars are all good, and even without a drinks package, the prices aren't bad at all.

Eating aboard is certainly an experience! With 5,000 people, the all-you-can-eat buffets cater to the masses, so the quality is poor and there is little variation… though that doesn't stop the Brits from demolishing an astonishing number of burgers, full Englishes, and fish and chips on a daily basis! The healthy food selection in the buffets was poor in both choice and quality, though to be fair, there didn't seem to be much demand for it. Breakfasts were okay—the fruit and muesli were good, but anything cooked wasn't, and even the smoothies were watered down. Also, dont expect to be server any drinks whilst sat down eating the buffet, we got 1 drink all week as there are not enough staff taking drinks orders. I’d recommend booking the specialty restaurants instead; most are included in your booking, though some dishes carry a small supplement.

We were in the Mini Conservatory cabins. An excellent room, but in hindsight we probably didn’t need to pay for the conservatory room which we didn’t really use. Everything in the rom is compact and there was nothing that were missing. Having a balcony on the 9th deck was amazing, especially leaving Olden. We went to a few of the music shows, all of which were great, though you do need to book ahead for some of them. We also attended one of the lectures which was fascinating. The gym was excellent, with a lot of machines, both resistant and cardio. No cable machines though. Also a great view out to sea !! The ship is extremely clean and well maintained, the staff work extremely hard and it shows.

We had priority for embarkation and so we were checked in and on the ship very quickly, Disembarkation was also smooth, and a 5 min wait outside the terminal for a taxi.

All in all… Norway we loved and would definitely return to. The cruise was a great experience that we’d do again, though I don't see us becoming yearly cruisers.

Airports & airlines could learn from how P&O organise parking & checking in as everything was well organised and communicated. This was our first cruise and we will definately book another after this experience.

My first cruise with P&O and it will not be my last. It was exceptional, everything was so well organised, the crew were always pleasant and the food was fabulous, the whole week away was so relaxing.

The entertainment and food were the stars of the show and of course the destinations. Norways and its people were so welcoming.

Using myholiday on the ship was helpful, did use the queue system to book tables in the MDR restaurants as you could ask to share a table, be almost immediately seated and share your meal time with some lovely people

To the staff were great nothing was a problem.
The activities and entertainment were great.
The food and choice of food was also very good.

We were first time cruisers and I cannot fault the experience. We will most definitely be booking a cruise again in future.

What a lovely ship Iona is, staff are so good and friendly, thoroughly enjoyed my week in the Fjords, Arif and Elvis were our bar staff and looked after us the whole holiday,Molly kept our room clean, she was so good, and looked after all our requests

Just got back home after spending the week doing the Norwegian Fjords on Iona. Had an absolutely amazing time! Was nervous beforehand not knowing what to expect however it went way beyond my expectations! The ship was very clean from top to bottom, Staff was very helpful and went out of their way for you. The venues, Shops, Entertainment, Food was all brilliant. Getting on and off ship in ports was a breeze, The scenery along the way blew my mind, We are already looking at booking again! The only fault I had was nothing to do with the ship, It was the rudeness of the guests aboard being entitled and thought they was better than everyone else (Pushing and shoving, No manners ect) However this did not affect our holiday! I would recommend anyone to experience this cruise

Food was fantastic in all the restaurants. Cabin was clean and well proportioned. Staff were friendly and helpful. So chilled you could do lots or do nothing the choice was yours!

Went to the Norwegian Fjords on P&O Iona. Fantastic ship, had everything we needed and more! Very clean, lovely balcony cabin, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Great ports visited.

Iona was amazing . We didn’t want the entertainment but there were quiet areas , but if you want it it’s there, food very good . Staff excellent .

Too a week cruise on Iona to the Norwegian Fjords which was amazing and scenic. From start to finish the process and experience was smooth and relaxing. For the majority of staff nothing is too much trouble especially Derril who was a waiter in the Aqua restaurant. The food, cleanliness and layout of the ship was outstanding and I’d definitely cruise on Iona again!

I have cruised other lines, more expensive ones and thought P and O were holding their own. The ship looked and felt nice, the food mostly was lovely and I felt looked after.

Our first cruise to Fjords returned today sadly. I cried leaving the Iona, and honestly cannot praise the staff enough. The cabin was beautiful, staff were extremely kind professional helpful. Ship as a whole was spotless. The only negative was people smoking on the balcony either side of us which made it difficult to sit outside having asthma and the tv not working most days amd having to repeatedly report to reception. It hasnt put me off and I will be booking again soon.

As always the cabins and public areas are clean and comfortable. The staff are all polite and friendly. You can be as busy or lazy as you want. There was so much to see and do on Iona. The fjords are absolutely stunning. We were lucky with the weather. It wasn't cold and we didn't have too much rain either. You just have to come prepared! Prices in the bars are much the same as in hotels. Food excellent with a varied choice. Everything went very smoothly. We felt safe

Just got back from a Mediterranean cruise with p and o we had two lovely weeks sight seeing beautiful places. Onboard food was great and the staff were all wonderful. The evening entertainment was great too. We loved Azura great ship.
