Awful Experience.

My credit score is like 825; hence, I've never been turned down for anything at all until I applied for a finance plan from Bread Pay because I didn't want to pay it all at once. I went through their ridiculous process including calling them 3 times, emailing them 4 times, and uploading my driver's license. As a result, for the work which lasted 2 hours, I was denied and had to pay for it all. Therefore, I have a perpetual negative opinion of Bread Pay and will never think of using it.

Horrible customer service

Horrible customer service. They say they couldn't identify me and then refused to resolve it. I see why there are so many bad reviews about this bank now. I'll tell at least 25 people how bad this bank is, starting with this review.

WORST BANK EVER !!!!

I had the worst bank experience ever with Bread Financial. I wanted to open a CD, since they have good CD rates. I decided to open a savings account first with them, and afterwards open a CD to a transfer the money from the savings account.
It took me more than 1 month to open a savings account with them, I did it initially online, when I didn’t hear anything after about a week I called them and they said that I needed to wait for a letter in the mail, after another week still nothing, I called again (every time you call the automated answering machine says 10 minutes wait even if the wait was always between 30 and 60 minutes), when I finally got them on the phone they told me that I have to send them in the mail some additional papers, copy of ID, copy of SS card etch. I did that, after many more phone calls I finally succeeded in opening a savings account, this was after 32-33 days.

Then I wanted to open a CD online, and I kept having problem with it, it kept saying that I was denied???, I called them again and they told me that there system was down and I should try in a few days again. I kept trying and I kept being denied, I called them again, and every time they said that they couldn’t tell me why I was denied, but only tell me that it wasn’t because of my credit, I knew that since my credit score is above 800. I am in my mid 50’s and have had many CD’s before with different banks without any problems at all.

Since I wanted to open a CD, and I couldn’t do that I wanted my money back, I called them again, and they told me that I would see my funds within 5 biz days, it ended up taking another month and call them 5-7 times again. It was obviously to me that they were holding on to my money to make interest of it, and pay me a much lower interest.
I want to warn everyone against this bank which have very suspect and deceiving banking operations.

Stay away!

Received a home equity loan. Mortgage company sent cert checks out to my lenders. Bread supplied me with a mailing address and a check was sent for my loan balance plus $600 in error. Check was cashed 5 weeks ago. After numerous calls I'm still waiting for my funds to be mailed back to me. I had been told various things about payoff and funds to be returned by many representatives. Comity Bank and Bread do not have more than message access to one another. Worst experience I've ever had with a financial institution. Still waiting for $1600 of my funds to be returned to me! No one has or provides answers and now getting hammered for being behind in loan payments too. Even upper managers have not been able to help. STAY AWAY!!!

Terrible customer service

Attempted to open a 1 yr cd. After more than a week, I got a letter in the mail saying they suspected suspicious activity and I needed to mail them proof of identity. I called the number they supplied in the letter, and after several IVR's, they hung up. Again and again. Then I looked up the parent, got a phone number and finally got a person. Asked if there was an email address to send the identity proof they wanted. The answer was no. Only through the mail. I requested my application be deleted. After 10 questions to prove my identity, they agreed. I know they are internet only bank, but they don't use the internet....ie no email address. With that poor a customer service, I don't want to give them my money.

Initial hiccups, but great experience!

UPDATE (01/28/2023): After several months of using Bread, the experience has been great despite the initial hiccups. Would recommend to others

UPDATE (11/4/2022): I was able to finally place an order, updated to three stars. Further updates to follow.

OP (11/3/2022): Place an order with Nikon using Bread Pay on 10/28/2022 and was informed that the order would update within 24 hours. Called Nikon on Monday, 10/31 to check the status, and they indicated they had not received the order because they were waiting for Bread Pay to send it over as they are a 3rd party and the ordering is different. Contact both Nikon and Bread Pay today, 11/3 and still no order, however a lot of finger pointing between the two companies as to who is responsible for the order. Bread Pay ended up cancelling the order and as a result, I missed out on a sale and had to use a different payment method. If this is the way they operate, I'm sure they're missing out on customers. Neither company addressed the issue, nor did they seem to care either. Take your business elsewhere!

NO GO if you have Cricket Wireless

I am 59, a veteran, retired, credit score in the high 700's and can't even apply for credit because I have Cricket Wireless as my cell phone carrier. Bread Pay considers all customers with Cricket to be pre-paid customers (I am not) and a credit risk. So, I am being discriminated against - judged by - who my cell phone carrier is, not my credit worthiness.

I can't sign in

I can't sign in. I go to the Log In screen, enter my email address, and instead of allowing me to enter my password, it asks for my cell number. Fine, except the pin number they send is not recognized, after just two seconds or less!
I tried 9 times before giving up. So now I can't pay my bill and it will affect my credit rating. Very frustrating.

Bread identification process discriminates against hearing impairment.

Tried to use bread while purchasing hearing aids. Checkout process through bread implies seamless, automated approval. This is not true. When I tried to use bread pay it said you must call and talk to a person. After filling out ssn, dob etc. got on the phone and could not hear because the system was messing up. They then say we need to verify identity by asking you questions from credit report. That is standard however they are read to you by a person who cannot pronounce very well through a phone system cutting out but I answered the best I can asking to repeat. I am purchasing hearing aids! Then they ask me to upload photo of drivers license. I did all that then it says denied cannot verify identification. I complained saying the process is flaws and discriminatory towards hearing impairment and I am who I say I am. They use TransUnion and I verified all my info is correct. They reply say sorry cannot revisit your identification. You are denied. Go back to selling company basically not our problem.

Won't finance to individuals with phone…

Won't finance to individuals with phone service through Cricket Wireless??! Customer service rep said they don't finance to people with prepaid cell phone plans, but I don't have a prepaid cell phone - my carrier is Cricket and I pay a monthly bill just like every other wireless consumer. Get it together, Bread Pay - you suck.

Disriminatory

In June 2022, I was shopping on Shopindoorgolf online and applied for financing through Bread Financial (Subsidiary of Comenity Capital Bank). They sent me an adverse action letter stating that that they were unable to give me the credit terms requested. The reason given for denial was "Estimated Ability to Repay". The application only asked for my name, address, date of birth and last four of my SSN. Never once was I asked about my income. I have an 829 credit score, make great income and have little debt. I have always been approved. I do not understand how a company can guess about my ability to repay? Can they guess based on the fact that I live in Pueblo and have a Spanish last name? I have never felt so discriminated against. How could a company that big who offers financing up to $15K not even ask about an applicant's income? I ended up going to topshelfgolf online and applied through Affirm and was instantly approved with 0% interest. My reason for submitting this complaint is so that other potential applicants won't feel how I felt. I also have filed complaints with the CFPB and Colorado Attorney Generals Office.

This company should not be in business

This company should not be in business. I wanted to purchase something for my son in NC. I wanted to purchase something through Wayfair. It gave me the option to use Wayfair credit, so I applied. I was approved. After selecting my son's gift, I tried to check out. Unfortunately Wayfair/Breadpay offers no option to choose (shipping address & different billing address). After finalizing my ID verification, I was denied because they couldn't verify my address. Some unknown reason "my son's address became my address. Now no one can help to rectify this issue. BREADPAY should update their system and have the correct selections for a customer to choose from. I do have the financial means to pay. Thank you Breadpay for me not getting involved with your bad banking issues. Update your system and you'll probably receive better ratings. 👎👎👎👎
Unfortunately I didn't want to rate you with the 1 ⭐. You're not worthy of it and your customer service reps are poor quality also.

Truly the worst company to deal with

Truly the worst company to deal with, I have a debt consolidation loan with Bread and the payment to one of my creditors never went through. I'm currently waiting for a response from the company, and when I call them all I get is a person reading a pre written response to my problem telling me it takes five to seven days to find the issue. When I tell them that five to seven days have already past, they repeat it could take another five to seven days, meanwhile I'm paying interest on money from them and the creditor they were supposed to pay off. As soon as this problem is corrected I'm looking for another company and paying Bread off. BEWARE this company

First time using well trying to use

First time using well trying to use : I get approved- the order doesn’t go through not because of my error but because of some IT issues your system was having- I wait PATIENTLY FOR 2 WEEKS - You Finally Get the error fixed - I resubmit the order- Get Denied because I applied within the same 90 days and there’s nothing you can do ? It really feels as though I am being punished for something I had nothing to do with. But not your problem not nothing you can do cool. Don’t even email me back.
