"Will preparation review"
"Overall, the process was fairly easy to follow — the wizard walks you through each section logically, and the guidance provided (witness requirements, execution checklists, provincial-specific rules) was genuinely helpful and reassuring for someone doing this without a lawyer.
That said, a few steps were harder than they should have been for a non-legal person to navigate confidently:
• We found a recurring technical bug — a merge field (page count) that never populated, showing raw placeholder text instead of a number, on two separate documents ( will and a Power of Attorney). It wasn't something we'd have caught if we weren't reading closely.
• We wanted to name both of our children as contingent beneficiaries for personal items, but couldn't find a way to select more than one person in that section. Support later told us the solution was to create a "group" containing both children first, then select the group — but nothing in the wizard itself pointed us toward that step. A well-designed tool shouldn't require a support ticket to figure out something this fundamental.
• The Living Will includes a default clause about declining medication administered to avoid suffering. The way it's phrased is genuinely ambiguous — it could easily be misread as the person authorizing being allowed to die through the administration of a specific medication, rather than simply declining standard comfort/pain-relief care. For a document this sensitive, that kind of ambiguity shouldn't exist by default, and when we tried to add a clarifying instruction, it created two contradictory statements in the same document rather than replacing the original.
• The Power of Attorney includes a default clause entitling the Attorney to compensation, with no option in the wizard to explicitly waive it — something many people, especially spouses acting for each other, would want the ability to turn off directly.
None of these are things a layperson would necessarily catch on their own, which is a little unsettling for documents this important. I'd still recommend the service as a reasonable, affordable starting point — but a genuinely intuitive tool shouldn't send users back to support to discover a basic feature, and clauses this sensitive shouldn't be ambiguous by default. I'd strongly suggest having a lawyer review the final output before signing."
Simplicity for you and me
Step by step, filling in the will was easy to understand and complete. I really don't know about these things to deal with so, it was perfect for me!
