Huddersfield Job Centre are an absolutely brilliant team!

For the first time in my life, at 58 years old, I had no choice but to go to the job Centre in Huddersfield and sign on for New Style Job Seekers Allowance as I was out of work and I had no income.

I honestly could not believe how welcoming and helpful they were. They were amazing. I was absolutely dreading it but the staff were brilliant.

They gave help and advice on finding a new job and I received £180 a fortnight, which was a massive help.

When I got a job shortly after, they even provided me with a monthly bus and train pass as even though your Job Seekers Allowance stops as soon as you start work, they will pay for the first months travel costs until you get paid.

I cannot fault the staff at Huddersfield, they were absolutely fantastic with me and they are an amazing team.

A massive thankyou to everyone at Huddersfield Job Centre for all your help, when I needed it, it was very much appreciated.

Who thought of this system?!

I can’t stand the Universal Credit system. It takes 4 mins of talking to an answer machine to be put on hold. Then you can be on hold for over half an hour. When the call finally goes through, I have to go through the whole security again. What is the point of the first 4 minutes answering security questions with the machine? Then the line can drop due to THEIR bad connection. Apparently the person cannot call you back so you got to waste another hour repeating this process.
I work! I do not have an hour a day to call you during work hours, let alone find two hours from somewhere.
It has been 16 days and I still cannot access my journal due to a phone number change.
Yet each phone call ends in “make sure you check your journal.” I just told you I can’t.
I have been on call to them 9 times in 12 working days, and each person I spoke to is as clueless as the next.
I have asked for appointments to be emailed to me whilst the sign in gets sorted but they seem too incompetent for that.
I have to call daily to ask what is on my journal and if any appointments have been made.
I have called and had them change my number on their system which they seem to do yet each time I call again, it still has my old number.
HIRE MORE PEOPLE and TRAIN them!
The absolute anxiety you give people is sickening! You cause stress and cause illnesses!

Reality from my experience is they may as well get AI to take over, there is no humanity left in there. The problem with following a rule book is assuming everyone is the same and there's no diversity. Well let's just become a dictatorship and stop picking and choosing what cherries we like

Job searching a nightmare

Using the job searching side of the website is terrible. You get some companies who will spam tons of the same job role over and over but in different locations, they literally take up 3 or 4 pages of one job role, making it unbearable to scroll through and actually see over job roles. This needs to be managed better.

All I wanted was advice about migration…

All I wanted was advice about migration to UC. The man I spoke to in the job centre couldn't be more dismissive and patronising if he tried, even when I explained my concerns.
People get spooked by change, especially the mentally ill; a little empathy doesn't cost anything.

Job centre is a waste of time.

Have been recently made redundant from my job, wanted to sign up to JSA and get help finding a job similar to my old job. Was told I had 4 weeks to find a job, if I didn’t find one I would have to apply for any job and maybe take a part time job. Had a job coaching meeting booked in for 3 weeks time, would have been pointless, as a week later I would of had to apply for any jobs.

This is not support, this is ticking a box and pushing people into any roles and not taking into account their skills in the workplace.

I withdraw my application, disgusted with how this process is carried out. Don’t see what the point of a job centre is.

STAFF

Hello..
Nowadays appreciation, Thank yous, empathy, help are all dirty words. So,when someone does something that you feel was brill, went that little bit more, was/is so committed to doing their job to a high standard and you know or feel they are trying so hard, the best of their ability, which makes you feel they are approachable, have respect for you, your cared for etc etc, then my dad drilled me morals, which, one is "you look after us, so we will look after you"!.
I want to shine a light on one of your staff.
Pauline from the Hanley branch, in Stoke-on-Trent, 3rd floor.... I think!!!! If it wasn't for her, decency, doesn't judge, care, attitude, enthusiasm, knowledge, a good ear and her constant support, then I can say 100%that I would probably be 6ft under. I've seen a lot of death, torture, disrespect, horrific things that no human in this World deserves to see.
I've been... Slashed, stabbed with a knife, syringe, and glassed with.. Well... A glass..!!!
Ive been badly attacked and taken hostage. I was nominated for a bravery award after the "badly beaten and slashed" incident. I had a young new officer shadowing me on that day, of which opened a cell door to a convict that had previous list as long as your arm, and a huge red flag for so many warning markers after so many years service, from 3 life sentences, child rape and attempted murder of his then partner and child(6 years old). He is never going to see the outside
and be released.
She unlocked him and he charged out so quick, he would of beaten Usain Bolt. As he came out he got hold of the staff member by the throat and was holding a toothbrush with several razor blades melted into it. (a very popular, weapon of choice on that side of the walls. He attempted to take and drag the female officer back into his cell. But I managed to jump on the convict which made him release his hold on the staff members throat. Bad thing though it turned him and myself onto the floor, as we hit the deck he landed on top of me. From there, he just started slashing away at me, which I could not turn or roll over which is part of the control and restraint training, that you had to pass. I couldn't do this because my hands and arms were cut badly and a cut/slash on my head that covered my face and eyes which made me temporarily blind. Plus my hands and arms were protecting my main danger areas. This being my neck and face.
Anyway, another prisoner saw what was happening and pressed the big red GA, alarm on the landings. Then it must of been seconds but it seemed an eternity when the cavalry arrived. He was bent up and taken to the block. I collapsed in a jeep after I'd lost so much blood. Just felt like I had fallen asleep. I then woke up with some very nice looking nurses.
I've explained this in detail as my next sentence or 2900 sentences..haha.
With this incident and many more so I'm no better than the next man and all of the aforementioned has made it extremely difficult to find trust and respect in folks nowadays. So when I say something, comment about someone, especially praise this person or persons must be, something special and gone above and beyond for them to earn my trust and respect.
PAULINE, is one of the very few of these folks. She is an ABSOLUTE CREDIT to not just your branch, in Hanley but for the Jobs Centre + trade mark in the whole of the UK.
I trust her and respect that lady so much. I'd easily take her to any cell, front line as she is quite simply... A HERO..!
Now, yourselves and other staff in your agency.... With all of the abuse, physically and mentally from your cliantal(not all) up and down the uk, yet you still leave the warmth, the security and your family's at home.. To then come to a job that not only your clientel but members of the public and management, not all, that never see your outstanding work you do. For, very Very little appreciation, or care. Is one huge deal. Everyone of you are heroes in your own way. You work tirelessly to help people and direct them down the right path towards employment, a future, security and in return your treated like are. You guys hold your heads high, higher than you ever think was a possibility, when folks are telling you your job, swearing, moaning because the little ducks have to wait for a bus, they haven't received their money, so you get assaulted, spat at, pushed, punched... I can go on. So when times are poo, and you just can't seem to satisfy, make folk smile... You chaps hold your HEADS High. When you've got employees like PAULINE, you can beat ANYTHING that's thrown at you(literally at times) you WILL help folk see easier life or nice life because YOU have guided them through that process of becoming employed.
Please all stay safe, your families too. Thank you..Steve Mottram

There really should be a NO star…

There really should be a NO star rating.

In my experience, Job centres are not a public service they are a public service disgrace.

They have acknowledged numerous times and in writing, that they are aware that by law they have to make reasonable adjustments for disabled service users, but they seem to think that it stops at providing a ramp and disabled toilet and a hearing loop even when the service user has told them what the adjustments they need are.

For example; Freedom of information Act request responses show that the staff have had little or no
Deaf awareness training despite the fact that there are 18 million service users, who are deaf or hard of hearing.

And try to get through to a Senior Manager. That is a laugh.

Warrington Jobcentre bullying

I understand why there is security all over the place in the Job Centre Warrington now. Granted they have to put up with many people's character. But certain workers take advantage of the security around and belittle the clients being interviewed. People with invisible disease shouldn't be interrogated for working part time. Treat others as you would like to be treated should be the Job Centre's motto. I seen a poor young girl in tears due to a job centre worker budding in an interview which she decided to yell at someone that wasn't her client! I seen the poor girl have a panic attack due to this incident. If they are not doing the interview with a certain client they should mind their own business.
