Direct, fast and fair

Haslams was very responsive during our search for a new home in the city. They supported our enquires to the landlord and all the process went very smoothly.

I would suggest not to deal with…

I would suggest not to deal with HASLAMS at all, they are the most unprofessional people, They dont care for anything, they will never communicate with tenants, even for one single problem to be resolved major or minor , it will take 3 weeks.
half of their employees are always on leave specially when they do not have any answer.
Please dont waste your money and time with them, my son who is a student got is apartment through them when entered the house bed was broken he slept on the rug for 3 weeks , new apartment they are responsible for hand over and even then it took 3 weeks to fix bed. even after that so many tings happening washing machine stopped working he is doing laundry out side already 3weeks not solution.

Terrible customer service!! Avoid!

The staff at Haslams Reading have terrible customer service. Very awful bunch of staff ( Alex on this occasion ) and point blank lazy. I recently contacted to make a simple enquiry about a property I was due to move into and the way my request was handled was below expectation. There was no attempt to help. I had to be speak sternly to be taken serious. They need to better than this. If I could help it I would avoid them completely and take my business elsewhere.

Poor service

Poor service. They handed us a very dirty and moldy house despite the requests we made before agreeing with the contract. The agent was even proud that it is their standard procedure to shampoo carpets every handover to new tenants.

Their property manager is almost impossible to reach. It takes a few days even weeks to get a reply.

I have been requesting for almost two months now after moving in for the things that they should have done before and still waiting for their action.

Extremely Rude and Intrusive Agents…

Extremely Rude and Intrusive Letting Agents,
Haslams Reading staff have no care for their tenants and their right to enjoy renting, they act as though they're doing you a favour because you are renting through their agency.

Their calls/messages are extremely rude. They exude arrogance and a bad attitude towards tenants.

An example of this, is the constant hassling to inspect the property (every couple of months!) and barging in to take photos of the property intruding on tenants right to privacy, and they always threaten to arrive with their 'magic' keys, Oh we have 'our' keys if you don't oblige, 'we have the keys' we can do what we want!

Self arrogant staff, with very little care or concern for Tenants, it's very disappointing!

Haslams is a terrible agent

Haslams is a terrible agent, and in fact the worst agent that I have ever met in my life. The staff never do anything to help their clients. DO NOT CHOOSE HASLAMS AS YOUR AGENT.

As a new tenant, I discovered a lot of problems in my apartment. I tried to ask Haslams to help me fIx them, but the staff were totally unhelpful and lazy. They either ignored my emails, or simplt told me that "we are working on it" but of course they never fixed anything afterwards. Even though I kept calling them and chasing them, their answers are still the same: "we are working on it", "we are contacting the landlord", etc.

Poor organisation and communication.

I called to view a property, and initially told I couldn’t see it. Then I was called back and told I could view it, but only at a very specific time. (This bit isn’t the problem at all).

Two days later, I arrive for the viewing, and upon calling Haslams when no-one turned up, only then found out that they ‘never confirmed/cancelled the viewing’ and it’s not going ahead. Annoying level of disorganisation and lack of communication at the best of times, even if we ignore the nearly 3 hours of travel it took to get there.

Fennella Hall highly recommended

Fennella Hall was great throughout our purchase of the property. She did an exceptionally good job. The purchase process took little bit longer than expected, but she was quite supportive from the beginning till end. Highly recommended memeber of staff Haslams Reading branch.

Thank you Fenella!

Property Inspection bad

Haslams sent a property inspector, one Adrian Porter, to inspect my rented property in Reading on Friday 31st March 2023, as the landlord requested it.

However, towards the end of the inspection, Mr Porter knocked out my WiFi cabling, and I have been, subsequently, unable to work from home, or watch Sky Q television, or enjoy my Bluesound Hifi system. It will be over 4 days without WiFi as a result of my property being ruined by a Haslams representative.

I would also add that Haslams have not offered any compensation for loss of income, loss of leisure, and hardship without WiFi. All they have stated is that I am to complete "Complaints" emails. That is all very well, as I, assiduously, pay the rent every month, long before the due date. I am thinking of, come May 2023, refusing to pay the rent as a result of Haslams not addressing my concerns.

Gazumpers

The seller, Haslams and I agreed a price of £300,000. Haslams then found someone to gazump that to £305,000 and the seller reneged on the £300,000. We agreed £305,000, the gazumper then increased his offer to £311,000 and the seller reneged on the £305,000. The agent was Mr Chris Cullity and the seller was Payne Hicks Beach. Payne Hicks Beach previously let the property illegally by not providing an EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report)

Good Experience

As a new renter in UK, Haslams managed my rented flat. The letting process was smooth, and although there were small issues during check-in, these were promptly resolved. Sharon Tubb, my contact person at Haslams was always on hand to handle any issues I reported and was of great help when I was moving out. My experience with Haslams was a positive one.

Lacking respect for customers

I called to book a viewing for a property to rent not more than 10 minutes after the ad was published on their website. We explicitly asked to book the first viewing available and, because of that, we cancelled some work commitments in order to ensure that we could be the first viewers.

I receive a call from them 2 hours before the viewing and they tell me the viewing is cancelled because another customer has made an offer the day before.

It came out that they showed other customers the flat first because an earlier slot has become free due to a cancellation. The offer has been made and the flat is gone.

Result: I lost half a day of work and I was not given the opportunity to view the flat. Among other things, we were also willing to make an offer before the viewing and / or offer a higher monthly rent, but in any case our viewing had been canceled and the lady at the phone offered absolutely no help. Too bad, because I think the landlord would have been interested in maximizing his rental income.

It seems like an unacceptable way of dealing with customers, considering that it is not even the first time this has happened to us and we've been affected by other viewing cancellations with short notice.

I understand the market is very active these days, but there must be some other viable solutions to avoid this kind of inconveniences to customers.

For instance, it would be fairer to implement a queue and priority system. If an earlier slot becomes available, they should first call whoever called first and ask if they would be willing to move their appointment earlier.

Money Grabbers with no respect

Our time renting with Haslams was initially good, they were responsive to any issues we had and good at communicating generally which included alerting us to any upcoming inspections or maintenance work. Unfortunately once we ended our tenancy things went downhill. The check-out report done for Haslams showed that we left the flat in an excellent condition but the agent and the landlord wanted most of our deposit. We attempted to work out why, making references to the check-out report but we never got a straight answer and our evidence was ignored. We were shocked and the blame game made us feel rubbish, like we had left the property a mess when we hadn’t. We whittled it down to them demanding half of our deposit, but we still weren’t happy and were luckily saved by the Tenancy Deposit Association and their arbitration scheme. This is when the gloves came off and we could see the underhand tactics used by the agent. They took photos of pre-existing defects to the property, used them against us (which we pointed out pre-dated our tenancy in our argument to the TDA) and made up issues such as ‘hairs and crumbs in places’ but never had any evidence to back this up. After we combed through the check-in and check-out report and made our case, we thankfully came out on top, and the agent/landlord got a small fraction of what they had initially wanted. We got the majority of our deposit back as we had initially expected. I understand that the agents are paid by the landlords and that maintains the business, but this felt extremely malicious. If you’ll be renting through Haslams, take pictures of everything and report it immediately! Make copies of anything you report and be prepared to have your back up against the wall when getting your deposit back.

Don't collaborate with them!

Hello,

I am writing this review to tell other people what they need to know about this agency!

Saturday (04.06.2022) my partner had an appointment with one of the employee to see a house that we wanted to rent.
All good until the moment they, (my partner and one of the agents) arrived in front of the house and suddenly the agent said he didn’t have the keys to enter in the front yard. They stayed there, for a couple of minutes, he call somebody else (from agency) and that person on the call said don’t have the keys and that was all. He left because he said he had another client and he can't stay anymore. :|

How can anyone have such an attitude? How is it possible to make an appointment without having all the measurements took?? We lost a very important time, we lost money on gas for NOTHING because (surprise) the house was agreed after this incident to another person.

Normally, that person had to stay there until he solve our problem but she said that she doesn’t have too much time to stay because he have other houses to rent!!!

Don't collaborate with them!

(I wrote a review on Google and their answer was to call them because they didn't find me in their database :)), although I've send them an email and describe what happened again)

Really helpful , especially the Letting manager

I am a new immigrant from Hong Kong. For a newcomer , we knew nothing about the UK, a good letting agent is very important and I am lucky to find one .

I had a very unpleasant experience on my rental flat in Reading, the property is rented through Haslams but managed by the landlord , many problems found from day 1 when we move in and the landlord refuse to discuss and try all the ways to delay the repair and even block Haslam’s involvement when we raise a complaint to Haslam , the Landlord excuse is” this is managed by him , not Haslams” . More serious cases were found and eventually with the help of the Letting Manager of Haslams Reading branch , we succeeded in terminating the contract and getting back the refund . We got valuable experience for this case: For a newcomer , who knows nothing about the UK , it is better to choose a rental flat/house MANAGED by a reputable agency rather than a single person/landlord as any open issue can be treated openly .

I have do doubt to recommend Mr Oliver Chambers , the Letting Manager of Haslams Reading to the others as he is a responsible , kind and trustable person who helps their customers in all ways although we have zero commission to Haslams.

Haslams are the worst agency I ever signed with - Do not recommend and will never sign with them again

I signed with Haslam's Reading a year ago and it was the worst, exhausting, expensive and unhealthy I have ever experienced. The flat I rented is filled with issues and this agency has not done anything to fix them but ignore me and when they respond is to argue with me that I am not right and they refuse to fix the issues. They did everything they could and super fast to sign me and as soon as I moved in and the flat started showing all the health hazard issues they ignore me or argue with me. Not only I can not rest-sleep-work here but I have to waste my time arguing with them. My only option is to move out giving a 3 month notice contract they enforce me to sign.

Very Bad experience

Very Bad experience - Will not recommend. If you go via this agent, please ensure your promises written in paper and do not proceed on negotiation - they are good in delaying requests and vanishing at the end.

1. False promises made that they will talk to developer for price negotiation.
2. Restricted me talking to developers directly.
3. When the issue was reported, they vanished and left me to deal directly with developers.
4. Because of them 5k additional I had to spend.
5. Developer confirmed they did not receive any request of this negotiation I have been having with Haslams.
6. They invited me to select tiles where I confirmed I have to travel 80miles, when I arrived - the person showed me options but they were not sure about stock.
7. They promised burgler alarm is fitted - but developer denied it.
8. They confirmed atique is ready to use with boards but it was't when we moved in.
9. Fillings across house they promised but I am still chasing with developer on the same.
10. Failed to negotiate and get good price
