We stayed in the Byre cottage over Christmas with our two dogs, the cottage is stunning and immaculately clean in the most idyllic location for a peaceful break.
The hosts Sarah, Andy and Lauren could not do enough to make our stay a great experience including welcoming the dogs and providing a truly dog friendly experience not just the normal dogs tolerated experience in most places.
They run a small farm shop on site which provides their own great quality produce including an amazing haggis which has never been a favourite of mine but after Andy’s recommendation am a convert to their local haggis.
We will definitely be returning here again as it’s the ideal location for a total wind down and re-set.

Once again a fantastic warm welcome from Team Grobdale. Thank you for all you do and fitting us in at such short notice

Sorry, I haven't written a review earlier. It is very remiss of me, particularly when considering the excellent time we had and the kindness shown by Sarah not only when we were in Scotland but afterwards, posting on belongings that we had forgotten.
Firstly, it was one of the most comfotable and relaxing places that I ever stayed. The Croft was beautifully decorated with so many thoughtful touches. Not only was everything top quality but it worked extremely well too. I know that seems obvious but there was nothing that caused any sort of stress.
The area is beautiful and there is so much to do, but it is absolutely delightful just to stay in and admire the beautiful view. At the start of the holiday, I was run down and stressed. I left relaxed and refreshed.
We will return to this haven.

A warm and comfortable cottage which made our stay very enjoyable in spite of some cold, wet and windy weather on the first day. We particularly liked the underfloor heating, the wood burning stove and the window, with window seat, giving a wonderful view across the valley.
We were very fortunate to book a weeks stay at this amazing place! From start to finish everything was so well communicated to us and we were made to feel incredibly welcome. The stunning welcome package was such a delight after a long journey! The cottage had everything you could possibly need for a comfortable and relaxing stay. The kitchen was very well equipped with every little detail well thought out by the owners. The log burner was a delight on an evening and gave us a wonderful warmth and a lovely ambiance. The bedroom was sumptuous and decadent and made for a great night’s sleep! We purchased some divine meats from the farm shop and the sausages were to die for! You are surrounded on all sides by nature which is just so relaxing and calming. We were lucky to have the Croft with the gorgeous big picture window! There is so much to see and do locally and we can’t recommend Grobdale of Girthon highly enough.
Beautiful cottage in the peaceful countryside - a perfect break whilst I recovered from burnout. The Croft was cosy, with lots of thoughtful touches especially the reading nook in the window overlooking the hills. The kitchen was incredibly well-equipped, including an air fryer, crock pot and a picnic basket. The welcome pack was a lovely touch. Brilliant location - far enough away to feel like you've escaped from everything, but also close to the sea and various villages and tourist attractions. Thank you!
Right from the very start, Sarah was so welcoming.
This began with the very informative initial email to a very warm welcome on our arrival, to checking in if we needed anything.
Sarah took time to show me around the farm and fed the horses.
The cottage was beautiful and had everything we needed, from a large air fryer to a slow cooker and everything in between. We were also gifted a beautiful hamper basket upon arrival that had their own eggs, local jam and biscuits and a local magazine.
Our stay was very relaxed throughout, nothing but peace and quiet and beautiful scenery.
Everything was perfect.
We look forward to coming back.
Very comfortable and well thought out accommodation in a stunning setting. The hosts, Sarah, Andy and Lauren couldn't have been more welcoming and always seemed to be available to answer any questions and offer tips about great locations nearby to visit. Dogs are made very welcome too and there is plenty of walking around all the adjacent fields, albeit with due respect to the different occupants, including some lively piglets, Muscovy ducks and Herdwick sheep. Grobdale is an ideal location for a variety of walks and access to the coast. Small, delightful towns are close to hand and they offer plenty of venues for eating out, as well as picking up essential supplies. Definitely a place to return to!

The Dairy is a great cottage in a beautiful location. It had everything you need for a relaxing holiday. Sarah and Andrew are very friendly hosts and run a great farm shop on the premises. We can highly recommend Dairy cottage and would love to go back.

We enjoyed our second stay in The Dairy at Grobdale of Girthon last month and we cannot recommend this very special place enough. The location is beyond stunning and must be seen to be believed, as words and photos are not enough to do it justice. The surrounding areas have lots to be enjoyed with amazing walks, beautiful beaches and fun places to visit in abundance. The Dairy itself is clean, comfortable, stylish, calming and very well equipped and the welcome basket is a lovely touch. Sarah and Andy are so friendly and welcoming and our children loved helping out on the farm with them. I's also the perfect place for the four legged member of our family too. We all enjoyed spotting the huge variety of wildlife on offer at Grobdale and we loved sitting out around the firepit under the stars too, which are extraordinary thanks to Grobdale being located in the majestic Dark Sky Park. We will be sure to return again and again over the years, as it really is a home away from home. We would live there if we could.

The location and accommodation were excellent. Sarah and Andrew were very welcoming and helpful. The Dairy was well appointed and beautifully clean. The welcome pack was a lovely gesture , with items both for us and the dogs, along with information about the area.
All in all, a perfect place for a quiet holiday, with the option of the beautiful area to explore.

Beautifully equipped, surprisingly spacious cottage with fine views of the hills and the night sky. Lots of wildlife on the farm including red kites, hares and roe deer. The summer's last swallows and housemartins were busy outside the front window. We and our two dogs felt very much at home, and the owners (and their livestock) couldn't have been more welcoming.

We were welcomed and felt relaxed from the moment we arrived. Very impressed by our cottage, The Dairy, with its wonderful kitchen and luxurious bedrooms.
A welcome hamper was much appreciated with the bonus of dog treats for ‘Ted’, together with a towel and tennis ball!
The views from the outdoor seating area are absolutely stunning and we thoroughly enjoyed late afternoons/early evenings in this rural idyll.
Sarah was very friendly and always available if needed. Suggestions were made to enhance our stay and guests are encouraged to experience the farm. The pork burgers and lamb shanks we purchased from the farm shop were absolutely delicious and we are looking forward to the honey.
Ted was able to run around in the field next to The Dairy, which he loved, and Sarah enabled us to get up close to the herdwick lambs.
The area is a delight to explore with so many attractions within a 30 minute drive. Our highlights were Threave gardens, the beaches (particularly Mossway), Kirkcudbright, the woods of Cree, and Galloway forest, plus more!
We would not hesitate to recommend gorgeous Grobdale and hope to return soon.

This was our 4th visit to Grobdale, the cottages are so well kitted out and the location is stunning. There are very few places so peaceful and beautiful in the UK where you can get away from it all. Sarah and Andy are excellent hosts.

This was my second stay at The Croft and I can’t recommend Grobdale of Girthon enough. Sarah and Andrew are lovely and have always made me feel very welcome. The Croft is wonderfully maintained and well equipped with everything you need. It is a very spacious two-person property (though I was staying there on my own so more space for me!) and the bed is exceptionally comfortable. The best part? The stunning scenery and views outside. I’ll definitely be booking up again in the future.

Everything was perfect. We stayed in the Dairy - beautiful, very comfortable and wonderful views. Lots of thoughtful extras too - thank you.
It was lovely to meet some of the 4 legged residents, especially the sheep at feeding time. We're missing it all so much now we're home.
