I found the application very easy to set up and it's an effective way to teach my kids about finances at a younger age. The phone app is easy to use, but I'm on a computer all day and wish I could use... See more

Overly complicated, arbitrary limits
They put arbitrary limits on cash withdrawals and make it very annoying to move money. For instance, if there is money in the Spend Anywhere category, you can't get gas or use it at the ATM. You have to specifically move it to the ATM category. So Spend Anywhere doesn't actually mean Spend Anywhere. Also, I was told that he could not withdraw more than $100 at the ATM cashpoint. Why? No one knows! Just apparently no way to lift it. I was told their partner bank was in charge and they have no control over the limits. Ridiculous. So if you wanted more than $100 in cash, you can't have it. Also, there are no free ATMs for this debit card company, so you will pay a fee each time you try to withdraw cash (about $4). I find this app really inconvenient, especially as I pay a monthly fee. You'd be better off going to a REAL bank or using Teen Venmo where they don't charge fees and you have access to your money when you want / need it. Customer service is also really bad. Long wait times, and they made me confirm the bank account I wanted to transfer funds to...but then still transferred to the wrong account. Why confirm the account details if you were just going to send the funds to the wrong account? It's just absurd trying to talk to competent people to solve issues. So, needless to say, we closed our accounts there and won't be back.

$10 a month?
$10 a month?? For WHAT?? The cheapest plan is still $6. Chime and CashApp (and I don't trust CashApp) are both free! CashApp has a plan for kids and it doesn't cost a thing!!

Manages allowance and chores perfectly
I greatly appreciate this app managing my child's allowance and chores in such a convenient, streamlined way. I love the opportunity for him to earn extra money when he wants something extra. I love his ability to set goals and save. I just love and appreciate this app so much for helping me teach my child financial responsibility at such a young age. He is starting off with good spending and saving habits, and that can have a significant impact on his future. THANK YOU!!!!!!!

It’s not as easy as I’d hoped
I don’t like that there is a $20 minimum to transfer money over and I don’t like the fees. I set up these cards for my eight year old and six year old so that it would be easy to transfer money that they earn and for them to learn money management skills. It hasn’t been as seamless as I had hoped.

International issues and TOTAL customer service failure
I signed up for Greenlight because my teen was going to be traveling internationally with their school. I went through all of the FAQs and was excited for this product. My son left to travel 16 hours away from me to a country that was NOT on the restricted countries. Day 1 for my child their card is getting declined at ATMs, they are calling me at 3:30 a.m. my time asking for help...I called customer service and they inform me that there is a limit on ATM cash withdrawals of $105. I tell my child we come up with a plan for next day. 3 a.m. I get text card is still getting declined at ATMs but able to use it for purchases. I call customer service, again, and this time I'm informed that the limit applies for a full 24 hours from last withdrawal. I tell my child this new update and we again come up with a plan. No problems day 3 and 4. Day 5 my child goes to purchase a souvenir that and the card is declined. Again I get a text, I call customer service, while I am waiting to be connected my child tried to pull out money to cover the price of the souvenir and that was also declined. Approximately this same time I am on the phone with a customer service representative who informs me that a hold was placed on my sons account for security reasons and that it was flagged as a purchase in a restricted country (it wasn't it was Japan). I was further i formed that there was no one available to help me remove the hold until 9 a.m. eastern standard time, 10 hours later. They couldn't connect me with a manager because none were available. I asked to have the funds transferred out of greenlight light back to my bank and was informed that wasn't an option. Luckily we were able to add our bank information into our child's apple pay but otherwise my child would have been stranded in another country, without their parents, with NO access to their money.

I was supposed to get a month free
I was supposed to get a month free, got charged for it, didnt recieve the card till a month and a half in. Then they took all my money I put in and never deposited to my daughter's savings to the debit card. Each person i talk to keeps extending the timelines. Its month two and still cant use the card! Steer clear! Don't do it, go to your own bank amd make your child an authorized user. So not worth the headache.

Easy app for kids and parents alike
Easy app for kids and parents alike. I originally got debit cards for my teens from my local bank but they weren’t able to easily see and monitor their transactions. Greenlight illustrates where and how kids spend money which has been quite eye opening to my kids.

Both of my children’s cards were frozen at the same time after my daughter tried making a $39 purchase. They’re with their grandparents and I’ve spent over 45 min trying to resolve this and I keep getting transferred…. Absolutely not acceptable especially when paying a subscription fee! Will be cancelling this service and using a different company
