Overall Good Experience over 5+ Years

Having a credit card through Citi has been great for the most part. Except for a couple of disputes I had that they found in favor of the vendor, which was utterly wrong. Otherwise, I’ve been with Citi for 5+ years now and have had a good experience.

Citi Card is a broken credit card…

Citi Card is a broken credit card company. For the past month I regularly get fraud alerts and declines. When I call they have trouble verifying me, eg. they cannot text me (everyone else can). when they finally verify me they cannot tell me why the card is being declined. Often they simply issue the dreaded verification letter which takes a week to 10 days to arrive. When it does and they reinstitute the account, it goes down again a day later. They refuse to acknowledge this and keep repeating the loop. Fraud alert, letter, fraud alert letter, etc. I am on the second card. None of the so called events e have been fraud. This is an Aadvantage card of long standing, but I am at the point where it is useless, so not only am I recommending ditching Citi Card, but the American Airline Advantage program as well. They do not have their act together in the least. Without the card, the program does not make sense.

They use your information for fraud

If I could give negative stars I would. This bank does not conduct business under the federal laws. They intentionally opened an account in my name knowing it as fraud. I reported it to them to try to get in front of it and they gave me the run around for almost 10 days, back and forth to get know where. They told me an investigation will be done that will take 30 -90 days however they reported to Equifax as a "factual find", but they have yet to reach out as they are required to via phone, email, or mail that they concluded this investigation. If in fact they haven't concluded the investigation, they still are not operating in adherence of federal laws when fraud is reported to their institution as a fiduciary. They reported it as an actual find out of spite because I have called them everyday and everyday they lie, provide incorrect information but nothing they are supposed to provide their consumers when checking their credit and of the investigation findings. I filed an FTC report and am filing a police report, I intend to sue for negligence, mishandling of my personal information and lack of due diligence under the FCRA guidelines. Citibank has done nothing to rectify this situation and they gaslight you and make it seem as if it is your fault when you call, hence them reporting as an actual find before providing me a copy of said investigation. They reported the card as stolen, I never reported it stolen because I never had it to begin with and they closed the account. So yet again negligence and mishandling my personal information. I've missed work trying to fight this so I can call during their business hours to hopefully speak to an actual human that understands me. I have so many recorded phone calls between myself and the agents I have spoken to because I need to prove everything they said, how and when and who said it. Dates, times, notes. I'm diabetic and the amount of stress this has caused is truly outrageous, the impact is also documented and can be proved. I intend to move forward with all legalities that support my right as a consumer. I followed the steps and contacted them first to allow them the opportunity to respond as a financial institution who believes in the security of consumers should, they did not. In fact their behavior is appalling and not of one that represents an American bank that cares about it's American consumers. I am also reporting to CFPB. It's a shame I have to fight this hard to prove it was not me when they did nothing to prove in fact it was, they just reported that it was to Equifax AFTER I reported the fraud to all 3 bureaus and to them directly. They deliberately closed the account as a lost or stolen card when they knew it was fraud and then repoted to Equifax that the finding are true that I opened the card when they have no proof it was actually me. When I submit my docs to the bureaus with my signatures to prove I did not sign anything I'm going to fight tooth to nail to make sure they take accountability for their negligence of consumer information and mishandling of PII.

Citibank has become the worst credit…

Citibank has become the worst credit card company Ive ever dealt with, they use accounting methods that will put the mistakes they made onto the customers, such as when they mistakenly give you a credit that is double what it should have been, they will then but the excess on your card as a charge thus raising your minimum payment when you made no purchaes. The Customer service people are brain dead and need english classes.

This bank is a joke

This bank is a joke, If you know what I know; you'll stay away. They are full of crap, had my account for 3 months, I called in one day they said they couldn't verify my identity, but yet I've spoken to them several times. So they blocked my access to my account and sent a letter for me to call them with a reference number. Said after verification they will unblock my account so I can have access to my funds. Once I was verified they stated they have to close my account and it will take 30-60 days for the closure and after that they will send me a check. I been calling them several times and they are refusing to allow me to take MY MONEY out of my accounts. This bank is a fraud and don't trust them. That BS, do not bank with Citi. Take it from me; bank somewhere else. Dont trust this bank at all. I will be reporting them to BBB also.

CITI CARD Nightmare

BEWARE! ALL CITI ACOUNT REPS FROM off-shore countries who dont communicate well, difficult to understand heavily accented reps, who rudely condescend the process of investigating both credit and debit errors in your account. they tell you your credit is processing, but according to 3000 negative reviews online, there is and inherent delay in processing any error in your favor even with your proof. PLUS IF YOU HAVE THE MISFORTUNE TO GET A FEMALE FROM THE PHILLIPINES, SHE WILL TALK OVER YOU TRYING TO PROVIDE THE INFORMATION NEEDED TO CLOSE YOUR ACCOUNT. THEY ISSUE YOU A "WARNING" IF YOU QUESTION WHY SHE KEEPS REPEATING HERSELF. TO ANGER YOU, THE CUSTOMER! WORST CREDIT CARD EXPERIENCE EVER.

Virtual Card Numbers process is broken

Citicard has had a process where you could obtain Virtual Credit Card Numbers (VCN) to use for online purchases without exposing your actual number. This can be very helpful when using a new merchant you are unfamiliar with. The process has worked fine for many years - that is until September 2025, when Citi improved the process. Now it is barely functional. I have had over 75% of the VCN's rejected at merchants who previously accepted them. It appears that when a merchant checks the number, it registers as a "use," and when the actual charge is placed the Citi system REJECTS the number as having been "used." The only response is an error that says to check the card number. I have tried multiple times to contact Citi but the only way is through Chat Bot or by phone. The customer service representatives have only said that there is a problem with some merchants. No one offers any help in resolving the problem. What is worse is that Citi does not have an email address to receive customer complaints or any communication. Only a mailing address. I have now given up on the VCN process. Too bad. It used to work fine, until they Improved it.

Citibank has to be the worst banking…

Citibank has to be the worst banking institution in the US. My (now diseased) mother's boyfriend opened an account fraudulently in my name as well as with other banking institutions while I was deployed overseas in the Marines. Every other banking institution closed the accounts and removed them from my credit report as soon as I alerted them. But not Citibank. No matter what proof I throw at them and how many reports I make they say the accounts are verified because the criminal that opened the account added himself as an authorized user. They ended up closing the accounts finally but now they are harassing me to pay the balance from an account that was never mine and destroying my credit. I would stay as far away from these people as possible as if they care so little about the people that put their lives on the line to fight for our country I doubt they care about any of their customers. I will never do business with this lowlife scam company that cares more about getting every penny than the well being of their customers. Absolutely atrocious and shamefull.

Citi bank the worst for the elderly

My 86 year old mother has a citi bank rewards card. She received a statement that she owed $78 and change and her bill was due on 2/23/26 . The statement read that she acquired a $29 late fee. Citi bank then started calling her leaving her messages about her bill. They harassed her into paying a bill ( that no where said $29 was due asap) They called about a late bill on 2/20/26 and the statement read it was due by the 23rd. So I called them. First they want your SS no# or the very long account no# before they will talk to you. Incredibly hard for me even to read off those no#s. Plus they out sourced their customer service to another country!

Such a pain to set up a Costco citi…

Such a pain to set up a Costco citi credit card.
1. Mailed a physical letter that required me to go to their website. Why didn't they just send an email?
2. Can't add card to Apple Wallet without talking to a support agent who then says she needs to mail you something to complete verification.

Crazy inefficient.

Absolutely terrible customer service

Absolutely terrible customer service. I had a Citibank representative sign me up for a bonus offer, met all the terms of the bonus offer, was told multiple times along the way that I met the terms and would receive my bonus by X date, only to have Citibank tell me via letter after that I actually didn’t qualify to begin with. My sign up happened on a recorded line and they still wouldn’t offer to honor the bonus.

NEVER HAVE THIS CARD BE YOUR SOLE CREDIT CARD WHILE TRAVELING.

This credit card decreases your credit limit periodically and with no warning. So, you will have a large payment during to get back to being within your credit limit. Never use it for travel. I got stuck out of the country with the costo citi credit card so I wouldn't be using cash. They decreased my l8mit while I was on vacation.

I am 65 yrs old and had never written a review u til I had to start dealing with Citi Bank credit card. They bought out Barclay card aa airline CC. To keep my points and keep
Building them I had no choice but to go with Citi. It has been a horrible 3 week process. At first I thought they were criminal. Now I just believe they are totally incompetent. I finally got my card and have made 5 purchases. Yesterday I changed mobile phone service companies. Today I attempted to place my new credit card in my mobile wallet. After 2 hours and 3 different people I was told my credit card would not be usable until i received a letter, called the number on the letter and proved my identity. My user name, password word, answer to a security question were not suffice. 7-10 days to receive this letter. Who knows what will happen then. If I ever receive the letter.

I would give them 0 stars if possible

I would give them 0 stars if possible. We spend $6K-$8K a month on our credit card. Our cards are set to expire in May. I tried to login to the Citibank website since I got my online statement via email, so I could verify the $6,800 worth of charges before paying and when I used my username and password that I use monthly to verify my statements it didn't work. So I tried to reset my password providing all of the security words and identification required but it didn't work. So then I called and got a pleasant person in a ex-US call center who was nice but said that since my card is expiring in 3 months, and they sent us a new card 2 days ago, that they will not allow me to reset my password. MY CARD IS EXPIRING IN 3 MONTHS! YOU JUST SENT ME THE CARD 2 DAYS AGO!! THE MAIL TAKES LONGER THAN THAT!!! And we are working snowbirds so we are at our other home for the next couple of months, and our mails is being forwarded, which takes longer. WHICH IS WHY I HAVE ACCESS TO MY ACCOUNT ONLINE SO I CAN CHECK THE CHARGES MONTHLY BEFORE PAYING THEM. I then asked to be transferred to a manager. The rep came back and said that the manager will not be able to tell me or do anything different so do I still want to talk to him. WOW! I was a call center manager for year and never would have told my rep to say that! I told him yes to speaking to his manager and got a person who said to me something like..."Yes, this policy does not make sense but it is POLICY so nothing anyone can do about it." They offered to go through each line item verbally over the phone with me. Ridiculous! I need it in writing to review and for records before blindly approving the charges. Then I said this made no sense. The manager was dismissive and abrupt and useless. If this is how Citibank wants to operate, I will cancel our cards and make it my hobby to post this review everywhere I can since somebody had to take accountability for expecting payment from us for a bill we can't view because my card is expiring in 3 months. STOP THE MADNESS!
