Every time I return home I use Cicar, they are by far the best car hire company on the island.
No credit card needed you can pay cash with no deposit, every hire is fully comp and how much fuel is in the vehicle on pick up bring back the same.
I would highly recommend this company.
Refund Only After Threatening Legal Action
I rented a car in Tenerife and my experience with this company was very disappointing.
The first issue was the lack of clear instructions for returning the car outside of working hours. The information I received was very confusing and incomplete. At the airport, I even spoke with other customers who were told something different (that there was a key drop box in the airport), while I was given almost no guidance at all. This created unnecessary stress at the end of my trip.
The second issue, and the main reason I am giving one star, is their fuel deposit policy. I was charged a deposit for the fuel level at pickup, which I had no problem with. I returned the car with the same fuel level as required, so I expected a prompt refund.
However, I returned the car on February 19th and did not receive my refund for a long time. After a few weeks, I contacted them and was told they could not process the refund to my credit card. This raises a serious concern — if I hadn’t contacted them myself, would they have ever informed me?
I then provided my bank details as requested and waited. I sent multiple follow-ups and received a reply on March 5th saying that their administration department was behind schedule and that the refund would be processed “in the next few days.” After that, I received no further responses despite several emails.
Only after I informed them that I would report the case to ECC (European Consumer Centre), the refund was suddenly processed.
If it takes over a month and the threat of a formal complaint to receive a simple refund, this indicates serious problems with their internal processes. I can only imagine how much worse the situation must be during peak season.
Very disappointing experience overall.
Poor customer experience
I want to preface this review by saying that the rest of the experience I had with CICAR was excellent. The booking process, collection from Morro Jable port and transfer to the Jandía office to pick up the car, and the general return process was easy and stress-free.
However, I was very disappointed and frustrated when I realised in security at Fuerteventura airport that I did not have some of my valuables (specifically a Nintendo Switch, several games, controller, and charger). I knew 100% that these items were in the glovebox, as I realised the night before in the hotel, that they were there when I was packing my bags for my flight the next day. This was the last place I left them, as I checked the glovebox when I removed some other items (water etc.) from the car that night. I then set a reminder in my phone to take them out of the glovebox before driving to the airport. I must have not set the reminder correctly as my phone didn't notify me.
I returned the car at 10:33am (it wasn't due to be returned until 12:30pm). Around 11:40am I called the CICAR main central office. I explained the situation to the woman. I was made fun of, but I did admit it was very stupid of me to leave the items! I was told I would have a call back by someone from the CICAR office at the airport. I said I might be on my flight by then, and so a voicemail or email would be better.
I had a call back from someone from CICAR in time (because my flight was delayed), before boarding my flight at around 1pm. The person said they had checked and cleaned the car, but he told me that he did not find any items. I definitely left the items in the glove box, because this is why I called before my flight. Perhaps they were taken from the glovebox in the hotel car park overnight.
The person on the phone confirmed that the car had not been delivered yet to another customer. The staff member was very unprofessional and ended the phone call abruptly, without answering my questions about the name of the staff member who checked the car and whether the correct car had been checked. I understand that it was very careless of me to leave these items in the glovebox, and it may not have been possible to get them back if they were there, but I personally felt that the attitude of the staff I dealt with were unprofessional considering the stress of the situation.
Anyway, the lesson of this story is please remember to remove your valuables from the glovebox of your hire car before returning it!

Booked a car with delivery
Booked a car with delivery, booked an extra day to make sure it gets delivered. They said they cannot deliver to my apartment building, only to hotels. Asked to deliver to hotel nearby. They messed around, finally confirmed, then refused to deliver to hotel because they called the hotel to check my booking and I don't stay there. What difference does it make where I stay if you offer delivery to hotels? Also, instead of playing detective, maybe use the time to actually help customers? Absolute joke. Never again.

Excellent experience
Rented a car from Feurteventura airport which was an excellent experience. Always book online direct with the company as there are no hidden costs unlike a lot of companies. The car was fabulous (once I worked out how to change the Apple car play from Spanish to English). Service was absolutely top notch and so quick. Wonderful start & end to our fabulous holiday!
