Terrible service won't use again... ever!

We picked up the car from Lanzarote Airport, the directions/ instructions to locate the car were extremely poor, we we told it was around the side and up on top by the Bus terminals (had to ask twice), however this was not the case, after looking around for a frustrating 25 minutes I managed to locate it on a lower section which I can only describe as what felt like a scrap yard, all the cars here were filthy making them hard to spot. Finally got the car loaded and off on to our holiday, I decided to hose down the car with water to make the car feel better instead of all our clothes constantly getting marked by the dirt/dust, it was then I noticed the Tires are virtually bald. I tried to contact customer services/ Lanzarote booth to advise but there was no answer (tried multiple times), this would seriously concern me if there was any major issue with the car we would be left stuck somewhere. When dropping the car off I tried to speak to the people there but they couldn't care less and even shooed me away, didn't have time to deal with this any further as had a plane to catch so left it.

Great experience with topcar

Great experience with topcar. Easy to pick up and easy to return P4parking. Really worth it to check in car in advance, car collection took 2min. I booked kia rio and i got kia rio, I took full insurance wich was 50e for 7days, no deposit needed or taken. I dont understand these bad comments here. Thank you Topcar! 5*

Rude staf,extra credit card churge

Booked a 7-seater over Easter and paid extra expecting something like a Skoda Kodiaq or similar. Instead got a small, cheap car that didn’t match what was advertised at all. The car wasn’t even properly clean.
The lady at reception was also a bit rude and unprofessional. She said with a cheeky smile she’d give me a better car… didn’t happen.
Also be careful with the deposit — instead of just holding it, they actually take the money. Ended up costing me an extra £38.
Overall not a great experience, feels misleading.

We visited on 16th February returning…

We visited on 16th February returning on 26th Feb 2026. We waited over 3.5 hours for our car. I have contacted them to complain twice, both times dealing with an AI chat bot. Each time I was told they would get back to me promptly. I still have not heard anything from them nearly 6 weeks later despite my complaint being 'prioritsed' by their system. We got charged 70 euro in credit card charges for the deposit. Outrageous! Do not use them. They don't care. The review I wrote on our return has mysteriously disappeared off Trust Pilot which us why I am making another post.

Convenient, airport pick up, competitive price

Just hired a car from TopCar in Gran Canaria and had a really smooth experience from start to finish.

The online check-in was quick and easy, and everything was ready when I arrived. The staff were well-trained and efficient, and I was on the road in under 10 minutes. The car itself was almost new, clean, and in great condition.

Drop-off was just as simple—park in the designated spot and hand over the keys, no hassle at all.

Definitely recommend TopCar if you’re visiting Gran Canaria!

DON'T use Top Car

They tried to charge me £149 for a puncture. The tyre was old and perished. I paid for a Hyundai Tuscon die to family size but was given a Volkswagen Taigo. They stated they didn't have the vehicle I ordered. We were squashed into the little old dirty Taigo for the week. The icing on the cake was the puncture. There was no wheel brace in the car so I had to wait for them to bring one to me. I then had to drive nack to the airport to swap the car with my wife and children. We lost about half a day as we stayed in the south. Airport is in the north.
The lady in the office took great pleasure in telling me the puncture was my fault and that I would have ro pay. I took photos of the old tyre. It was in a very poor state before the puncture. The lady in the return office appeared to take joy from inflicting as much stress as possible on myself and the children. She was at best heartless.
I chased them for 10 days for the return of my £1200 deposit. When we got it back £149 had been taken out. Thankfully I had photos and after 2 weeks of emails and stress the £149 was returned.
On 3 occasions I asked Top Car to provide me with an official complaint form. They are obliged to provide this under EU and Spanish Law. I have yet to receive a form and its over 2.months now.
If I had read the reviews I never would have used Top Car.
It is definitely not a cheaper option.

We had a great experience with Ruben…

We had a great experience with Ruben from the Tenerife North Airport. Our family was feeling desperate because the original car would not fit all of us inside he calmly helped us fix the situation by offering a larger van. It was very late at night and we were very tired. His kindness was deeply appreciated.

TopCar Review - avoid if you value your time and money

I echo what many others have said: TopCar is utterly unprofessional. Credit where it's due — one staff member was genuinely helpful and tried his best. Unfortunately, he appears to be the exception.
Deposit issues. I paid a 1,200 EUR deposit and received roughly less back. Apparently some bank conversion fee? Nobody could clearly explain why I didn't get my full amount back. It seems they may charge the deposit instead of simply holding it, as others have reported.

The tire & insurance nightmare. I purchased insurance that covered car's related problems. During the rental period, I noticed a screw in the tire. Per their contract, you're not allowed to fix anything yourself — not even something as simple as visiting a tire shop. Instead, they send a replacement vehicle, which of course isn't free. Fine — I followed the rules. I received a damage report and two receipts. Then my insurance company asked for a final invoice, and that's where the real circus began.

Four weeks of runaround. I have two contacts at TopCar. One either ignores me or responds with complete nonsense. The other simply doesn't reply. My request could not be simpler: send me the final invoice for the insurance company, tha's all. They promised in the office it would be no problem. Four weeks later — still nothing. When I asked for a direct contact of someone who could actually issue this document, they sent me a screenshot of their website's contact page and told me there's an email and phone number there. Spoiler: there is no email on that page, and the phone number doesn't work from roaming — or at all, for that matter.
My suspicion. Honestly, I don't believe they're capable of producing a proper final invoice. I suspect the amounts wouldn't hold up to scrutiny from an insurance company, and they know it.

Bottom line. I don't enjoy writing negative reviews. But if a company can't send a simple invoice over four weeks despite repeated promises, I feel obligated to warn fellow travelers: don't waste your time or money here.

Avoid at all cost

I just had the worst experience at the top car Lanzarote airport. We queued for 1.5 hours, we were next in line and they told us they were closing the line and moved us around the other side to a new longer line. Not only was this deeply upsetting for me and my young children but they then continued to serve the original line so the all people who had been behind me got served and left. The people who had moved lines then complained and they wouldn’t do anything about it. Causing the people in the line to all start fighting. It took 2 hours to get to the desk. I will never book top car again. Terrible terrible terrible customer service and experience

Rented a car on Gran Canaria at a very low price. Was a high deposit but it was payed back a few days after I returned the car. Everything went smooth, friendly and helpful staff, no waiting time, car was as i expected.

Missold car rental insurance

We were missold car rental insurance. We have an annual policy to cover car rentals. Tried to explain this to the member of staff.He led us to believe we had to take it out.
I have complained and asked for our money back. The Company has not responded in a helpful way. They say it was a matter of a mis-communication. Surely they should have staff who can communicate properlywith the customers?

Absolutely horrendous scam company that…

Absolutely horrendous scam company that doesn’t care a single bit. They will charge you 1200€ as deposit which is huge sting already. After I got returned 1090€ so 110€ less from deposit due to conversions, as they charge your card instead of putting it on hold. No notice, nothing, so paid more for this than for the whole renting itself. Never again, cutting this amateurs for life, So Beware all - NEVER rent with a Topcar!!

Unexpected Fees incurred on Refund of Deposit

No problems with car, it was clean and in perfect condition. When we returned home we were charged £70 for exchange rate and fees when the deposit of 1200 Euros was returned to our Credit Card. It was not put on hold like other companies. So as well as the Hire Car cost this was another expense we did not expect. Very expensive car hire!! Would not hire from this company again.

I am writing this review because I am very disappointed with my experience with TopCar Tenerife.

After returning the rental car, I was supposed to receive back my €200 deposit, but it has still not been refunded. It has now been quite some time, and I have not received any update or explanation.

I have also tried several times to contact the company to clarify the situation, but unfortunately I have not been able to get in touch with anyone or receive a response.

I believe this situation is not acceptable. The deposit should be returned promptly if there are no damages or issues with the vehicle. I hope this matter can be resolved as soon as possible.

Until then, I cannot recommend this company based on my experience.

Legit company, recommend

Accidentally booked Goldcar instead of Topcar for my father (booked Topcar for myself), on booking.com, knowing that Goldcar are scammers. Cost for the car was the same on booking. Topcar asked 50EUR for full insurance with no deposit. Goldcar asked 243EUR + 133EUR fuel deposit. at the desk, they basically blackmailed us to buy the full insurance. said that even the minor 0.5mm paint scratch will cost 500EUR+, giving some sort of brochure stating that. They also tried the usual tactics saying that all of our 5 cards are debit or does not have the name on it, even though one was a credit card, and that we won't get the car if we won't buy the extra insurance, which costs 2x the car price. Topcar gave us shining and clean VW Golf 8, Goldcar gave old and bruised VW Taigo. Avoid Goldcar at all costs! Topcar is the way to go.

Warning! Overcharged and charged for pre-existing damage.
​I was charged 1200€ for a small scratch, even though I signed a damage report for 220€. This is a clear overcharge and breach of contract. Furthermore, I have timestamped photo evidence proving the damage was already there at pick-up. Customer service (Heidi) refused to help and ignored the fact that my phone was on a different time zone (GMT+2 vs GMT+0), claiming the photos were taken too late.
​Unprofessional and dishonest. I have initiated a chargeback through my bank. Avoid this company!
