This was my first experience purchasing…

This was my first experience purchasing car insurance with AXA, and unfortunately, it was highly disappointing. The staff displayed an unwelcoming and unprofessional attitude throughout the process. There was little opportunity to ask questions or seek clarification, as the representatives were dismissive and abrupt. Instead of providing guidance, they focused solely on interrogating me in a curt and impolite manner.

Disappointed and Frustrated – Poor Handling of Missed Connection Claim

I purchased travel insurance through AXA in good faith, expecting reliable coverage and fair treatment. Unfortunately, my recent experience has left me deeply disappointed.

I missed a connecting flight due to a delay and submitted a claim under their “Missed Connection” cover. Despite providing all documentation, AXA refused the claim based on a technicality that the layover time between flights was less than 2 hours, even though the itinerary was sold as a valid single journey by a recognised travel provider.

There was no warning during booking that this would invalidate cover, and AXA showed no willingness to take into account the real-world context of how most people book travel today. It feels like a convenient loophole to avoid paying out.

Customer service was slow and unhelpful, and the tone of the rejection letter was impersonal and dismissive. I expected more from a major insurer.

If you’re considering AXA for travel insurance, don’t bother or at least read the fine print, and don’t assume you’re covered just because your journey seems reasonable. Based on this experience, I wouldn’t recommend them and will be looking elsewhere in future. Obviously, other travel agencies will be decent and cover you for this reasonable distribution to your travel itinerary and not be so mean and unprofessional. Appalling customer service and so dismissive. Outrageous !

Car insurance refund very delayed

Recently applied for a policy. Gave all details correctly. They took money immediately. It then turned out that AFTER taking my money we couldn't proceed with it as they THEN asked for documentation that other providers ask for before they take your money. This was fine.

However the length of time it took for refund is horrendous. Initially I was told it would be returned electronically as the male rep asked for my IBAN. I gave it a week as instructed....no refund.

Rang them back and talked to another guy who said it would be a cheque. So I waited another week for a cheque. It didn't arrive so I rang again. The male rep said he would cancel the cheque....in the meantime the original cheque arrived. I waited another week as rep said that was cancelled.... Rang back only to find out the "cancelled" cheque wasn't cancelled and was told to use the one I had.

It's really bad, misleading communication about quite a sum of money. And the fact that they could take FULL payment IMMEDIATELY, without requesting all documents initially like all other insurers I reached out to is atrocious. but also not being able to refund it anywhere near as quickly as they took it is a shocking policy to work by.

If anyone does use them. Do not pay full deposit immediately. This has taken 3 unnecessary weeks to get resolved, and could leave you out of pocket.

STAY WELL AWAY

I was with Axa for years with my house insurance, however in October '24 I had serious water damage which led to presses being totally destroyed. I made the claim and an accessor was to call out to see the damage. He never showed up on the appointed day, I rang again and another appointment made..again another no show. This went on until Christmas, no one ever called to the house, no phone calls, nothing..it's still unresolved. They are a disgraceful company, and I'll never do business with them again.

-1 stars if possible

-1 stars if possible. Most greedy and ruthless company I've ever dealt with in my life. My policy on a 03 audi is 800 euro more expensive than the exact same car in a 01 02 04 reg. Queried it with a guy on the phone and was told either pay the same if not more I paid last year or kick rocks. Horrid company with a monopoly on the business. They own anpost gmib supervalu etc etc. All giving the same quote at smaller discounts.

Sharp practice

I have 4 vehicle policies property policies and health policies with this company and had a minor accident so they stepped back my no claims discount by 15% but in addition increase the premium by 50% so this is not insurance when they simply are intent on recovering anything they pay out on insurance. This is sharp practice and should not be allowed by the regulator.

I'd score it lower if I could.

I'd score it lower if I could.

As someone who has worked in the industry for over 20 years this, AXA's handling of my claim only highlights the reasons why people hate the insurance industry so much. Claim submitted nearly 2 months ago for what should be a straight forward and simple settlement. Insufficient settlement offers to reinstate the property to preloss state yet won't send their QS report so I can see where the disparity is between the quotes I've received and what they are offering.

I had a motor claim a few years back and it was simple and straight forward, not sure what has happened since then but AXA proving that they are happy to set up a policy but when the all important day comes they're nowhere to be seen. Mulptiple phone calls made over the last 2 months with no updates unless I chase them for it. Also trying to tell me my excess is higher than my account and documentation states

Absolutely appauling service and would recommend staying well clear at present

I give up

I give up. Took an eternity to listen to all the prompts. Then I was put on hold, and then, misery of all miseries my call was dumped into voice messages. I decided to call my local branch and guess what? My call was redirected to the same calamity. Sort it out AXA. I have been a loyal customer for nigh on 20 years. I will remain loyal but please do something about your call centre. Thanks a million.

Worst company of all time

I drive a Taxi for a living and I pay Axa over three thousand euro a year to insure my car. The car I drive is an MG5 electric vehicle and on Sunday the 16th of February I got a fare from Dublin to Athy and ended up using more electricity that I thought I would. I called to an Easy Go charging point and of course it was out of order so I knew the car wouldn’t make it to the next town to charge my car. I rent the Taxi from a company so the insurance is in joint names based on the ownership of the car. I rang Axa for assistance and after giving all my details to an employee of Axa she asked me for the address of the company who own the car. I gave her the first line of the address and she said that wasn’t sufficient so I asked could she hold on a minute until I found the address and she told me I had thirty seconds to find the information or she would disconnect me which she duly did. It was a freezing cold February day sitting in a car that was eating electricity so i had to turn off the heating as it also uses up the electricity. I was in complete shock and I ended up ringing back and an extremely helpful lady called Marissa sorted me out. I find Axa to be an appalling company who have terrible customer service staff bar a few and whoever is in charge of the customer service department should be fired. How on earth in this day and age can a company allow staff to treat customers in such an appalling manner. I sent a letter of complaint to Axa giving the exact time of the phone call and I can’t wait to here their answer regarding this matter. The extraordinary thing I’ve noticed about Axa is that they are on the Trustpilot forum but they don’t care about bad reviews as they never respond to anyone.
