ACAS webinar training

ACAS provided a well-structured and informative introduction to managing sickness related absence. This was the perfect primer for someone in a new managerial position, with plenty of guidance on where to look for further training and support. Highly recommended.

A useless experience

I called ACAS today about some advice on problems that I've been having on and off since 2023. I'll admit that I don't know the full ins and outs of what ACAS does, but I basically got a lot of I don't know and you need to speak to a solicitor. They have advice on their website, yet they can't discuss it over the phone. For example, for a disciplinary hearing, their website advises to contact my employer to request evidence before the hearing. I mentioned to them that there needs to be reform and ACAS should be offering advice right across the board. I can only say that it's been a useless experience, but I should've known better because I called them around 8 years ago and it was the same back then. I won't be calling them again.

I am afraid I cannot recommend this course to anyone

The accent of the instructor was very strong and they were leaning forward so it was not possible to read the lips as well. The instructor did not let us know that they are changing the topic, this happened many times. Same slide was on the screen but I noticed that they are talking about completely different topics. I prefer to have clear guidelines written on the slide so I can relate what they are talking to those. talking on a topic for 40 min is not a good way of teaching while we do not know the context. Case studies done in the groups were helpful. However, I could not draw a conclusion about what to do about each of those cases.

Great short session from ACAS

Really good short session on conflict and the use of mediation. The pre course communication was sent to me in a timely manner and joining the session was really straightforward. The session itself was well run with well delivered content which was useful in all work settings. I also appreciated the downloads of the slides and the links to other information.

Worthwhile free webinars

I have been watching the free webinars from ACAS recently, and they are very informative. They serve a good purpose. Attendees can then choose to attend full (paid) training, after gaining an insight on various topics, through these free webinars.

Managing a Fair Disciplinary Procedure

The webinar on Managing a Fair Disciplinary Procedure was very useful, clearly set out and with the useful option of being able to type questions and receive answers from ACAS, all of which were available to copy and save, together with the slideshow presentation.

The training was completely outdated and has not kept track of recent case law

The training was completely outdated - I attended a similar training course 3 or so years ago and nothing has changed. The trainer was robotic and mechanical in her delivery and was unable to answer basic questions which require judgement and context. The content was very basic and did not go into any qualitative detail about was inappropriate / appropriate behaviour might be - particularly if there is any conflict between two or more protected characteristics - e.g., Women's rights / versus trans-identifying men's rights. There was nothing in there about what is on the horizon e.g., Employment Rights' Bill.
