I have yet to actually manage to rent…
I have yet to actually manage to rent with Zest, and I was really optimistic… but now less so. I was trying to save a bit of money and book a car with out-of-hours pickup and drop-off at a different location, which I understand is a complex ask. They offered me a very reasonable price, and I emailed them to explicitly confirm that this request will be possible, because the provider (Budget) doesn’t offer that pickup time on their website. They responded to say it’s fine, so I booked the car, bought an IDP, and booked my flights. They then told me the booking is NOT confirmed, so I emailed (still no response) and got in touch via chat (I am abroad and cannot call), and the representative told me the car I selected isn’t available but the next size up is, at a slightly higher price. Great! Except the new booking was also NOT confirmed. I tried to get in touch via chat again, but was kicked out of the chatting software 15 minutes before the online support closing time. Now, there are no Budget cars available on their website and the next cheapest car is 2x the price of my original selection! Anyway, what I mean to say is… don’t book your flights before you have a booking confirmation from Zest (email confirmation that a booking is possible is clearly not reliable!!), you may end up losing a lot lot lot of money.

Cheap but ultimately regrettable decision
Good price, easy process.
Let down by the car provider, given a car totally unacceptable compared to what was originally booked. Got the very real impression that as I had come through a 3rd party I was 3rd rate customer.
On our return home Zest hid behind terms and conditions and fobbed me off.
Go direct or expect inferior treatment.

This Company will not refund your Deposit
This Company will not refund your deposit. I have been trying now for 2 months to get my deposit refunded. Zest are not interested...they expect you to contact the hire company they put you on to and beg them for your deposit back. I was then told by Zest my funds were released from the rental company and you have to contact your bank to get your money released. I have never heard of having to contact your own bank to get your own money released. Don't use Zest....rip off merchants

We would like to clarify the situation regarding your deposit to help clear up any remaining confusion about how pre-authorisations work.
As we previously shared, Optimorent confirmed that the security deposit hold was fully released on their end, and written proof of this release has already been sent directly to you. Because a deposit is placed as a temporary pre-authorisation rather than a completed charge, no funds were taken from your account, which means a refund transaction won't appear on a statement. Instead, your card issuer simply unlocks the held funds so your available balance updates. How quickly that happens depends on your bank's internal timeframes.
Since both Zest and the provider have cleared the hold on our side, your card issuer is the only party who can view your pending balance and help speed up the release of those funds on their system.
We would also kindly ask that you avoid posting duplicate reviews across different accounts for this same booking. Submitting multiple entries goes against Trustpilot’s guidelines and makes it much harder for our team to keep your case organised and support you effectively in one place.

Beware of the scam
I chose Zest because of a Which recommendation. Big mistake
Warning - do not get a car from Zest for Heathrow airport pick up. They use Drivalia who seem to have an elaborate scam set up to defraud customers. We and the customers in front of us were party to the same scam. They told many lies and we had to pay again in order to be given a car. They are now claiming we agreed to ‘upgrade our insurance’ This is a lie. They told us Zest had cancelled our booking and would reinburse us.
Zest refuse to believe us.
The BVRLA are investigating both companies after our complaint.
So much stress & unpleasantness, do yourself a favour and choose another option.

As a broker, we are not present during conversations at the rental desk and must base our findings on the signed documentation provided by the supplier. Regarding the points you raised, the complimentary upgrade on your paperwork applied strictly to the larger vehicle category supplied upon collection (a Renault Symbioz rather than the pre-booked Clio) at no extra charge, rather than any optional products.
Furthermore, the cover purchased locally reduced your excess liability with Drivalia, whereas the Top Up policy arranged through Zest provides independent cover for specific additional areas outlined in your policy documents.
Because you have initiated an active chargeback with your card provider, we are unable to continue a concurrent investigation while that process is ongoing. We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback and thank you for your patience while the formal reviews process take their course.

Zest car hire good but don't buy their excess insurance. Had a to claim reimbursement for a burst tyre. Although they eventually paid up it took hours and 2 attempts to provide all the evidence. Will get annual or buy insurance from hire company in future.
