Generally good experience.
I usually like to book with Zest due to being able to book the extra top up insurance, and the flexibility of being able to cancel last minute. However I was a bit disappointed this time that the rental cost was very high and when I phoned with an enquiry, the rep was not very helpful or particularly polite. Dollar who I booked the car with were good though.

Excellent communication and value from Zest. The service received from the rental company they selected (Drive 4 Fun at Faro) was also first class and it was a bonus not having to leave the airport site to collect the car as per some other providers. I will definitely use Zest again and am very happy to recommend them.

Avoid avoid avoid. Quite possibly the worst customer service I have ever received. Whilst contractually there are no time limits expressed, we landed at Florence airport on time. However due to EES delays arrived at Noleggiare car rental desk 1.5 hours after landing. They had the flight details so were aware the flight had arrived on time. The desk staff confirmed that there were extraordinary delays EVERY DAY due to the implementation of the EES system. However, when attempting to collect our rental I was told that I had arrived at the desk over an hour after the plane had landed and that therefore my rental was null and void. Leaving me with no option but to pay £370 for another rental!!! Captive audience trappings…NO customer help from Zest. After Which legal advice, went through a dispute via credit card and finally received a refund with NO help from Zest. In fact, Naomi (Zest’s Customer Relations Specialist!!!) is still sending me emails desperately suggesting that I had arrived 2 hours after landing and therefore no refund would be due. I suggest this company needs to do more to protect its clients from these trappings…especially in light of the existing EES fiasco burdening many EU airports!

While we appreciate that passport control and EES processing can cause unexpected delays, car rental providers operate a standard grace period for collections. If you are delayed at the airport—even if your flight landed on time—it is essential to contact us or the provider directly so the vehicle can be held beyond this window.
Because Noleggiare were not notified of the delay before the grace period expired, the original vehicle category was released. The local team offered an available upgraded vehicle to ensure you could still collect a car, which was agreed to and signed for at the counter.
We always recommend contacting our 24/7 support team immediately if you experience delays at the airport so we can assist you in keeping your reservation active.

Yet again excellent service from Zest…
Yet again excellent service from Zest Car Rental along with their excess protection cover which the rental company didn’t argue with. Also worth mentioning that the standard deposit you have to secure on your card is regularly way lower than other companies. For Sicily it was €1000 when many were wanting €4000+. Dropping off the car was very quick and straightforward compared to other companies nearby who were going over the cars with magnifying glasses. Always good having a 24 hour number you can ring with problems although I haven’t ever needed to ring it.

ZEST great, but don’t use Movida!
We booked a Movida car through the Zest website. I chose Zest because of its ‘WHICH?’ best buy status. I feel this is well deserved as I found the booking process easy, transparent and good value. I trusted ‘them’, which was a much appreciated factor; having always felt like I was being conned is some way with other providers in the past.
However, we had a truly awful experience once we arrived at the Movida rental place. I had ordered a PayPal credit card which I had used to pay for our car in advance. I had over £1900 in credit available on said card. But the card failed at the car hire desk when trying to use to put down the security deposit ‘hold’ which was around £450. Calling PayPal was an utter nightmare - going in circles trying to speak to someone, taking an age to answer and getting inexplicably cut off after managing to speak to an agent after 20 mins. This happened twice. All I managed to get from them is ‘yes, we are having difficulties in Europe, as it’s a newly introduced credit card’.
Movida could not have cared less and made no attempts at all to be helpful by flatly refusing to change the main drivers name and using one of my family members credit cards, even though it was clear, none of this was from any mistake of mine. Inexplicably, they also refused to let us book another car at a greatly increased price with another card saying there is no car available! It was like ‘No, we won’t do that. Next customer please.’
After 3 hours of trying to sort it with my family all sat waiting and me in tears, I finally called the Zest helpline. Why did I not do this sooner?! A great guy whose name began with ‘B’ spoke to the man at the counter, then phoned the Movida head office for us and finally they allowed us to change the main drivers name and pick up the car we had already paid for. I was then in tears of pure relief and I could not have been more grateful.
There was another problem 2 days later though when the car broke down and I had to go to the Porto office again to pick up a new one. Obviously they paid for a taxi to take me there but we lost a full day of our holiday as Porto was 90 mins away and en route we were sat in several long traffic jams.
So. I strongly recommend Zest but I will never hire from Movida.

Good deal
With Zest I feel confident I'm getting a good deal, that I won't get charged extras and have additional insurance pushed. It's good having a second driver free.
That being said, on this occasion I was charged extra for taking the car onto ferries, which we needed, and this was probably fair enough, seeing the shenanigans which went on during ferry loading and unloading. But also charged a smallish amount for extra breakdown cover for going out of Athens area, which I was more doubtful about.
