Double glazed window replacement
Hi Kevin,
I have read your email and I think it is important to clarify a few points, as your account of what happened is different from mine.
Firstly, my review is based on my genuine experience of the installation and the condition in which my home was left. It is not intended to suggest that every aspect of the work was poor. I have also acknowledged that the financial side of the matter has now been resolved.
With regard to the carpets, I did say that I hoped to replace the bedroom carpet at some point. However, that did not mean that I intended to replace it immediately, nor did it mean that I agreed for the carpets to be left without adequate protection during the work. My recollection is that it was you and Andy who suggested removing and disposing of the bedroom carpet after I mentioned that I would eventually replace it. I did not ask for the carpet to be ripped up and taken away.
The stair carpet was also not something I had said was going to be replaced. The installers were going up and down the stairs during the work without adequate protection, which is one of the reasons I raised the issue of dust and building debris on both the bedroom and stair carpets.
Regarding the dust, I understand that building work creates dust and mess. My concern was the lack of adequate protection and the standard of cleaning and finishing afterwards. I don't think it is reasonable to suggest that because I have a chest problem, the dust and mess should therefore be attributed to me. Reasonable protection of a customer's home should be part of carrying out building work professionally.
I also want to clarify your comments about the additional work you have referred to. The work you carried out was not additional work that you kindly provided to me as extras. It was work that had been agreed as part of the installation, or work required to put right or finish aspects of the installation. I appreciate that some of this work may have involved additional time or materials, but that does not change the fact that my concerns are about the standard of the installation and the way the work was carried out.
You have also disputed some of the issues I raised, including the damage to the drawers. We clearly have different recollections of some aspects of the installation. However, I have photographs showing the condition of the work and the mess left behind. Photographs provide a record of what I found following the installation.
There are also still matters concerning the actual standard of the installation that I have raised, including the gap underneath the window where spacers have been left in place and the slope of the window sills.
As Yorkshire Windows is a FENSA Approved Installer, I am quite prepared to ask FENSA to consider whether any of the issues I have identified raise concerns regarding Building Regulations compliance. If necessary, I would also be prepared to obtain an independent inspection and report from a suitably qualified surveyor or glazing specialist.
I am not making this suggestion as a threat. I simply don't think there is any point in us continuing to argue about whether the installation is satisfactory when the matter can be assessed objectively.
I have also since seen another customer's public review in which they state that Yorkshire Windows asked them to remove their review. I cannot comment on the circumstances of that particular customer's experience, but it did make me more uncomfortable about being asked to reconsider my own review.
I also want to clarify the comment you have referred to about me saying, "What's in it for me?" This was not a request for money in exchange for a better review. When you asked me to reconsider the review, I was questioning what the reason would be for me to change an honest account of my experience. I was not asking you to "buy" a better review, as your email suggests.
I don't expect you to buy a better review, and I have never suggested that you should. I have simply given an honest account of my experience, just as other customers are entitled to do.
I don't want to continue going back and forth about this. We have both made our positions clear and, as we agreed on the telephone, we will have to agree to disagree.
I would therefore ask again that you do not contact me by telephone regarding the review. If you have anything further to say, please put it in writing by email.
Regards,
Ikki
