The app has a lot of potential and does provide the basic service of international calling. Much handier than old school calling cards. Connection is of reasonable quality, price if great, what else to ask for... well, there is.
As many other users I have been forced to look for a replacement of the late Skype and was putting my hope to Yolla. It's not quite there yet.
- Caller ID - an important feature that worked reliably on Skype and other apps, very sketchy here. Calling mobiles ok, calling landlines it shows some random numbers. Yolla support bot told me it's a provider issue, but that's not helpful, and works in other apps.
- Dial pad - handy button on the app... but doesn't work. Trying to dial voice menu choices impossible. Workaround is to lock your phone and use built-in dial pad, but it's a plain bug. Support bot again tried to convince me it's a provider issue, doesn't stand again and annoys a bit.
- Top up - quick, easy, works well... unless you are in a call. Say, you have 30 minutes paid and 25 minutes into the call you realise it will take more than 30 minutes... you're stuck. The app does not allow you to top up while in the call, you have to end the call to do that. Autorecharge? yes, it will also work once your call has ended. "Helpful" support told me I have to sort it out before the call.

I used Yolla for calls and struggled for it to give me calls for free at the start, eventually after several hours after purchasing call time it started working. The main problem I have is with the eSim which when installed worked. I found that suddenly after 3 weeks my 30 day sim appeared to stop working, I logged in to the app to see if there was bandwidth left but there was no eSim listed as having been purchased so I couldn’t see if it was running out… seems a bit poor to be honest!

It filled the gap when my mobile phone airtime provider was taken over and they (the new provider increased my call charges by 1680% and, when I queried it, told me to expect a massive increase since they'd took over). Yolla were simple to download but could improve in certain areas: 1) still more expensive than my initial provider (Yolla local landline calls are 9p per minute); 2) dashboard is unclear (e.g. it took me a while to work out how to send a text, find the recipient address, find the loudspeaker, etc.); and 3) the interface is unclear (having sent a text, it's not clear whether the reply will come via the Yolla app or via 'Messages)

The first time I used it, I received calls on my cell from unknown numbers from France and Poland, which was annoying, and I was about to cancel the app. But in subsequent uses, I haven't had any problems and the communication quality is good.

Volume of call is poor. Yolla says itmy connection problem but I'm using another carrier and have excellent call reception. Lost my balance only about $3.85 when my sim card expired. They don't have any documentation on calls so won't credit new number.i want to transfer credit from another yolla account and they want proof of purchase. Go to chat gp and you will see these problems are recurrent with many subscribers. Communication was so bad I asked if I was talking to a robot.
Said in reply they credited $4 to my account. When I asked where they responded that they didn't issue any credit. After another bunch of emails they don't know where they credited the $4. It's cost them probably $40 in salary over a cup of coffee.

I have been using Yolla for a couple of years. It is brilliant for making international calls without paying exorbitant carrier fees.
It is also great when abroad as the costs are very reasonable, and I even use it for accessing my Three voice messages when abroad so that I don’t pay roaming!
Speed of customer service is amazing!

Fantastic app. The clarity of sound is very good.
There is a problem (app become inactive immediately after recharge of balance. That means I have to wait to re-call to the person I was speaking and stopped with low ballance. So please do something so that it is immediately possible to switch from re-fill to calling. Another problem, some times at the start of a call, the other person cannot hear me but I can hear.

It's a good app .
The only problem I have with this one is that we you're talking with someone and you turn off the screen or trying to use another app ,then the one you're talking to won't hear your voice.
