Warranty First after a 25 minute wait on hold

Spoke with Warranty First after a 25 minute wait for an agent. I was attempting to make a claim, as i hadn't been issued with a booklet when taking the policy on the purchase of my car i was unsure what was covered.

The agent was very polite and professional.

Unfortunately as is normal with warranty companies the actual policy is worthless. I was trying to claim for an oil leak which after reading the information sent by the agent, it seems that Warranty First do not actually cover very many items at all. I also apparently had to get the car diagnosed which involves a considerable amount of time and money before they would even look at the case. As it turns out the suspected part isn't covered so no point in following the process.

I would personally avoid any form of extended policy as it isn't worth the cost.

Good customer service

Spoke to Rianna several times about renewing our policy. She was very helpful and knowledgeable, and more importantly not pushy about the sale, which puts me off of companies. Every thing she said she would deliver she did

Frazer McGreary was both professional and friendly to deal with when discussing my renewal. He explained everything to me in a way that was relateable. He answered the queries I had, listened to what I was saying, explained the options available and a detailed breakdown of the costs. His customer service and knowledge is definitely an asset to the company.

Don’t expect to get all the repair…

Don’t expect to get all the repair costs back.
I was sold this warranty with a used vehicle from a dealer. After three days of ownership the car went wrong. It was a Tesla so there aren’t many garages that can work on them.
Warrantyfirst will only pay £75 per hour, no garage will fix a Tesla for that amount, Tesla charge £195 per hour.
Secondly warrantyfirst expect the garage to wait 7 to 14 days for payment. Again, try and find a garage that excepts that, they want payment before they release the car.
I ended up having to pay and then claim back from warrantyfirst. Unfortunately this means they deduct the VAT from the invoice and there is also a 10% excess charge.
First repair was £259.24 and I was reimbursed £112.02 from warrantyfirst.
Second repair was £400.52 and I was reimbursed £298.50.
If a garage offers WarrantyFirst the walk away.

Thank you for your review, in the interest of fairness we would like to respond to your comments.

The labour rate chosen was one of several we have available at the point of plan inception, and we do offer higher rates than £75 per hour. However, these would incur a higher cost for the plan and would have needed to be discussed at the point of purchase if you paid for the plan.

In respect of the payment terms, we advise 7-14 working days, but often we pay out much sooner than this. As you have been the payee for any agreed payouts and as the VAT invoice will not be made out to Warranty First, this is why we are unable to reimburse any VAT incurred, this is set out in the repair process at the point of opening a repair request and forms part of the terms and conditions.

We are sorry you have been unhappy with the payouts provided, but we can confirm the repair requests have been assessed in accordance with the plan held and the terms and conditions.

Same as many others on here say, parts not covered so waste of money.

Should have been suspicious when I first saw their website, looks like a teenager designed it in their bedroom. When viewing on a mobile half the screen is missing and inaccessible; really amateur ish.

Needless to say when my van developed an oil leak in first month of ownership, apparently the parts aren't covered and thus warranty first won't pay a penny.

I'm not a mechanic and shouldn't be expected to read through a parts list to see what's covered. At the end of the day I've purchased a warranty, the vans has an engine issue and it should be repaired or at the very least contributed to.

Not worth the peice of paper its printed on.

In respect of your repair request, the parts needed to remedy the issue you have with your vehicle, are not listed within the plan you hold. Our plans are designed to be as transparent as possible, and we list all parts that are considered in the plan booklet, where a part is not listed then it is not considered.

My experience with Warranty First was…

UPDATE AFTER COMPANY RESPONSE:

I appreciate Warranty First taking the time to respond publicly to my review, and I also acknowledge again that the staff I initially dealt with were polite and professional during the sign-up process.

However, my concern is not only about the technical policy wording or the rejected repair request.

My biggest concern is the handling of communication after cancellation.

During sign-up and while taking the policy, responses were extremely quick by email and WhatsApp. However, once I decided to cancel within the cooling-off period, the level of communication changed significantly. I repeatedly had to chase for formal written confirmation that the policy had actually been cancelled.

Even now, I still have not received a proper cancellation confirmation document confirming:
• the policy has been fully terminated
• the agreement is closed
• no further obligations remain

I was also told that the finance agreement is handled separately by Bumper. While I understand they are a separate company legally, from a customer perspective Warranty First introduced and arranged the monthly payment setup as part of the policy process. Therefore, I do not believe it is unreasonable to expect clearer guidance and confirmation regarding the cancellation of linked monthly payment arrangements.

My concern is not about trying to avoid the policy terms. I fully accept that the repair request was assessed according to the wording provided. My concern is about the overall customer experience once cancellation was requested.

For any finance-linked contract, customers should receive prompt written confirmation after cancellation without having to repeatedly chase by email or WhatsApp. In my opinion, this is a basic part of professional after-sales service and customer reassurance.

I still believe customers with higher mileage or semi-automatic vehicles should ask extremely detailed questions before relying on this type of cover, especially around gearbox systems, DSG/mechatronic components, wear-related limitations and technical component distinctions.

This update simply reflects my honest experience throughout the full process, from sign-up through to cancellation.

Review -
My experience with Warranty First was mixed, and I think it’s important for customers with higher mileage or semi-automatic vehicles to fully understand what they are signing up for before taking a policy.

The initial sign-up process was very good. The agent I dealt with was polite, professional and responsive. All documents were sent quickly, questions were answered, and the setup process felt smooth and reassuring.

However, things became much more complicated when I actually needed to make a repair request.

As a normal customer, the policy wording can be very difficult to interpret in real-world situations. Certain terms in the booklet appear broad, but once a garage diagnosis is completed, the distinction between covered and non-covered components becomes extremely technical.

In my case, the repair was declined because the diagnosed component was an auxiliary belt tensioner, which was not covered under my plan. I later also discovered that DSG/semi-automatic gearbox systems, mechatronic units and related transmission components were not covered either.

I understand Warranty First assessed the claim based on the wording of the policy, but this experience showed me how important it is to ask very specific questions about your exact vehicle, gearbox type and common failure points before relying on the cover.

Another concern for me was communication after cancellation. During sign-up, responses were very fast. But once I requested cancellation within the cooling-off period, responses became noticeably slower, and I had to repeatedly ask for formal written confirmation of cancellation and confirmation that the linked monthly payment agreement had also been cancelled.

For a finance-linked contract, customers should automatically receive clear written confirmation once a policy is cancelled.

My advice to others:
Read every detail carefully, ask specific technical questions, and don’t assume that general wording means every related component is covered.

For my own situation and vehicle usage, I decided the policy was not the right fit.

Thank you for your review, in the interest of fairness we would like to respond to your comments.

Our plans are designed to be as transparent as possible, and under each plan, the parts considered are listed, where a part s not listed then regretfully it would not be considered, as was the case with your repair request.

When a plan is applied for, we send you, the plan documents and ask you read these carefully to ensure the plan meets your needs, and in the event you have any queries to contact us.

We note that the plan and finance agreement has since been cancelled, and this should have been confirmed to you. In respect of the finance agreement, confirmation of this cancellation should be sent from the provider, as they are a separate business to us.

Chantelle 10/10

I would like to give Chantelle especially 5 stars for the help she has given me today. She called me to help me set up my new years warranty and she took the time out of her day to be personable and extremely friendly which is such a breathe of fresh air considering a lot of calls are very transactional. She was very patient with me as I had a 10 month running round and she had to call me back but 10/10 service. Thanks again Chantelle
