About Vets Now

Pet emergencies can happen at any time – including when your regular vet is closed.

That’s why our nationwide network of out-of-hours pet emergency clinics are open through the night, at weekends and on bank holidays, so we’re ready and waiting to provide expert pet emergency care when your regular vet is having some time off.

Our pet emergency clinics are the pet equivalent of A&E and our purpose is to give you and your pet the care and support you deserve, at the time you need it most, whether it’s four in the morning or in the middle of Sunday lunch.

Vets Now provides this trusted service to more than 1000 veterinary practices across the UK — from over 60 dedicated out-of-hours clinics and two 24/7 pet emergency hospitals. In total, we treat around 200,000 small animals every year — our highly-skilled team works hard throughout the night, weekends and Bank Holidays. So whether you’re in Aberdeen, Belfast or Portsmouth we’re there for you and your pet when you need us most.

We’ve also pioneered other ways to help pets, pet owners and the veterinary profession, such as our comprehensive referrals service and providing our staff with industry-leading training and development opportunities. We also support the pet blood transfusion charity, Pet Blood Bank UK. Meanwhile, our two hospitals — in Glasgow and Manchester — are home to some of the UK’s leading specialists in the field of emergency and critical care and provide care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Expensive for emergency care and do not accept Petplan at point of payment

My vets were closed on the Saturday afternoon before bank holiday so when my cat had an eye injury I had no option but to go to the emergency vet. The staff were all lovely, however I find the emergency consultation cost of £300 on a Saturday afternoon to be outrageous. I would understand more if it's the middle of the night or a Sunday, but they have you over a barrel - and this is all emergency vets, not just Vets Now.

They also do not accept Petplan at point of payment, unlike some vets and they charge £20 extra for processing insurance payments which I have never experienced before at other vets.

The vets were very nice, but I ended up paying nearly £500 for a 5 minutes consultation and some eye drops 😭😭

Only use when absolutely necessary - and hope you have good insurance!

Hi there, I know it can be frustrating having to pay for an unplanned trip to the vets. Much like it is for other out-of-hours services in other industries, It's more expensive to run an out-of-hours pet emergency service than a general daytime practice. We've broken down where our costs go here if you'd like to find out more: https://www.vets-now.com/2018/01/emergency-vet-costs-prices-fees/.

Happy with my experience!

I was absolutely panicking bringing my little puppy in, had no idea what was going on and thought she had heat stroke. AT FIRST my impression wasn’t too great, the receptionists I was met with weren’t the warmest and they took my puppy away with no explanation as to what was going on and not really any words spoken to me. This was completely turned around by the care that the vet (Jaqueline) gave to not only my puppy but to us as humans as well! She genuinely cared, gave the best advice and love to my puppy. I will definitely be going back, she was seen straight away and we were out of there in 2 hours with overnight care offered as an option if needed. I will say there was a changeover of receptionist when we left and the girl who took payment and explained the insurance process was fabulous and made for her job!

For the cost of the new walking through the door. £302 later was in there not even 5 mins. Took mum and newborn puppies, as I thought there was a problem with one which thankfully not. But never checked the others or the mum over. The service has a shockingly expensive.

Vets Now provided prompt, clear ,efficient and caring service in an emergency situation for our cat. We were kept informed of what was happening and advised of costs involved. We were given the opportunity to take our cat to our own vet "out of hours" service but declined as it was too far away under the circumstances.

Lily’s visit

Everything for the visit and support got my puppy was 100% perfect could not ask for more.
Fabulous vet excellent service for my puppy’s problem,
However I am struggling trying to claim the high costing of the visit through my new pet insurance. Would have appreciated the lovely and kind front desk lady to actually go into my policy and help me inform them about a claim,
I’m still struggling to inform the insurance company.
It was stressful time due to the worry of my pet and also not being confident filling in forms/claims on line.
I’m getting there but still struggling with all this on line stuff!

Waited 2 hours last night and my dog was triage by a nurse who made accusations that I have caused a gastric ulcer through giving metacam. Not seen by a vet prior to this.

Forever grateful for the care you gave my old boy

Thank you so much to Lucy the vet and the lovely veterinary nurse whose name I forget. They treated my old boy with so much compassion and did everything they could to get him through the night and to my vet so that everyone he loved could say a proper goodbye. He was comfortable and passed peacefully later that day. I’ll never forget your kindness nor the kindness you showed to all the other pets and pet owners who came for treatment that night.

Thorough and friendly service

Our 16-year-old arthritic cat chose Boxing Day to hurl himself down the stairs, so we found ourselves unexpectedly heading to Vets Now.

We were seen after less than half an hour by Jackie, who was friendly, thorough and reassuring. She laid out treatment options honestly without a bias towards revenue, which gave us confidence to make the right choices on the day. We were in the treatment room for over 20 minutes while she assessed our cat and explained everything thoroughly.

The consultation cost was eye-watering but the invoice states that 75% of this was the out-of-hours fee. I get it… much like anything else, if you need a service at an inconvenient time then you either pay accordingly or wait and put your pet at risk. Medication costs weren’t excessive.

Thanks for taking good care of our cat… who is now in the doghouse!

We were seen quite quickly by a lovely vet who was kind and considerate. We were not rushed and she took lots of details before treating my elderly dog. Although we didn’t really want to be at the emergency vet we had fantastic service

Hi Mark, thanks for your feedback on the cost of your pet’s care at Vets Now. We appreciate that taking an unplanned trip to an emergency care provider can be frustrating. It’s much more expensive to run an emergency clinic than a regular daytime veterinary practice and our prices do reflect this. For a thorough breakdown and explanation of our pricing policy, feel free to visit: https://www.vets-now.com/2018/01/emergency-vet-costs-prices-fees/

OOH recent trip

I have knocked the score down to 4 stars purely because we had a bit of a weight, but I understand that is inevitable when emergencies come in. My boys had a visit with the OOH vet following one of them consuming a huge portion of Christmas cake. We were looked after and my boys were very happy to see me following their procedure. Although it was almost midnight, the team were extremely professional and supportive ensuring I had all the necessary information regarding their care. They have both made a full recovery...Just my wallet that is feeling sorry for itself.

Great care but flawed system

Reception staff and vets were very pleasant and professional. It is off putting that costs are discussed from the offset and that even with a good insurance policy you are asked to pay a £250 deposit upfront. Thankfully all other costs do go through the insurance claim. Our dog was in overnight and received excellent care and the vet sent us away with the drip and medication and to be used at our own vets as the treatment needed to be continued. This gave us a reduction in some further costs as we then had to pay again at our own vets as they require all costs upfront. Basically even with insurance you need to keep an emergency credit card or your beloved pet won’t get the treatment they need which is sad
