TomTom stopped providing updates for my device. Now it is useless. I have since found that Google Maps is the best option for navigation. Not sure why anyone would pay TomTom for a service that is free elsewhere!
Tomtom 52
sat nav required updating so I thought I would buy a new one, bought a tomtom 52, (had 3 tomtom's previously) BIG MISTAKE, extremely slow to load up, not easy to use, slip up putting address in and you have to start over again, wish I had bought a garmin
Updating Problem Fixed
I recently updated the maps on my Tom Tom 5200 and got the message "Update Failed". I was horrified to find I was left with no maps at all. I contacted Tom Tom Technical Support who, although difficult to understand at times, were really helpful and set up a download to restore the maps on my machine. Within two hours i was back in business and the Sat Nav is now working perfectly. I know other people have had problems but they certainly did a good job for me.
Thank You,
Martyn
I have been trying to download a map…
I have been trying to download a map update. Incredibly slow, and the software kept disconnecting. I have now been trying for approximately 24hrs. It has been like this for years with TomTom. It must be a problem their end and they must know about it. I will not be buying TomTom again.
Tom Tom map update hell
Do not buy a Tom Tom product if you ever want to update the maps!! I have free life time updated with my Tom Tom Via 62, however, having left it updating all night - needed over 10 hours - this morning I find the update failed and all maps removed from my sat nav. Looking on various forums I find so many problems with their updating I should never have tried or even bought from this company. App suggests I try to get problem fixed with another 9 hours of downloading. Not working. Company sites all full of excuses................ Off on holiday today with no sat nav. Is it to much to expect a tech company to sort such long running issues out. Avoid!!

I recently had my Car broken into and my VIA 125 stolen, Customer Services were extremely Helpful They put a block on my stolen sat nav and offered me a 30% discount + a refund of my unused subs maps etc off a Go 5200.so for me they have done OK .........................Well Done
My late husband bought me a TomTom Live…
My late husband bought me a TomTom Live for my Christmas in 2010. It was the last present my husband bought for me before he died. I have just received an e-mail from TomTom saying my SatNav is now obsolete and can no longer get up-to-date maps for it. They want me to buy a new SatNav at a silly price with very little discount. I thought they were up to something a while ago when they started charging for the UK maps which used to be free and now this. Well TomTom. You've got greedy so I might have to buy a new SatNav but it will most certainly not be one of yours. Goodbye TomTom and I hope you go bust.
FIX ANY TOM TOM
This will FIX ANY TOM TOM;
Prise off the screen
Remove all the circuits with pliers
Throw them away
Velcro your Iphone 6 in its place
Attach to dashboard
Updated maps, wiped my device then would not download maps and wanted payment. Support don't listen to anything you say and just repeat 'go to maps download', which it wont do as they wiped the machine and it goes to the same screen and stalls. They just don't want to support the device they sold and have the worst support staff imaginable.
If i could give no stars i would
If i could give no stars i would. Long time customer who has been treated like absolute crap by this company. I currently have a open case since purchasing a new device 28 days ago. My invoice stated i paid $0 for my gps which is incorrect. I paid $174.50 for it. I need a tax invoice to claim for tax reasons but cannot claim as it says $0. My case has been escalated to a supervisor twice now and both times they have failed to contact me back. Also waiting to be contacted by accounts for 3 weeks now. No reply to messages or emails. Calls ignored and rude staff. Just got off the phone then and was told i need to be patient! Absolute disgrace of a company. Never again. ***update. Have been told to wait another 10 days for them to "look into it".
Total Rubbish

TomTom is a an amateur company with poor CEO
The product is good when new but the updates don't always work and the company considers its customers to be worthless. I have three TomToms which will be going in the bin as I'm sick and tired of wasting my time paying a lot of money for useless updates. I hope the CEO is sacked very soon.

My sat nav is about 4 years old and I can no longer update the maps so I ordered a new one and paid for next day delivery, that was 5 days ago. I messaged them twice with no reply and have just rang to be told my order still hasnt been processed so they will refund my extra delivery charge. Not impressed and wont be buying direct from them again 😡
TomTom - Avoid buying at all costs!
Avoid buying a Tomtom navigation system at all costs!
Unfortunately mine came with the car (a Mazda) and after 3 years I thought I would update the maps. What an impossible task - and when you encounter difficulties updating, then the website is a waste of time. The telephone help-line (when you eventually find it hidden away) should be re-named 'the unhelpful line'. Not the poor telephone staff's fault, they just work for a rubbish company.
Tomtom had sent me a 30% off updates email - the update didn't work so after an hour or so on their website I eventually contacted them by phone. They asked me to send them a copy of the promo email (but will not out an email address). I had to reply to an "email" which they send you with a screen print of their promotional email. When I replied as requested it sent the email back to me rather than them!
So I eventually found somewhere on their labyrinthine website to register an issue, that is, after making several phone calls and them telling me to buy the incompatible update and refusing to give me either an email or even a postal address to be able to contact them about the issue.
Now they have contacted me to say that I have 2 duplicate case numbers and I should use 180627-001991 ... huh?!!! How am I expected to use a case number if I can't even navigate your systems to contact you and if your system seems designed to stop people from contacting you?
I think that I will give up. Buy a Garmin instead - I have an old one which is just as good as the car system and the updates are easy.
Bought Tom Tom Lifetime maps for iPhone…
Bought Tom Tom Lifetime maps for iPhone about 3 years ago. Recently Tom Tom emailed me and said that the product was being discontinued, and new Tom Tom Go replaces 'lifetime' maps - first two years free and subscription basis thereafter. Blatantly dishonest and will never trust this company again, having two Tom Tom portable GPS and the Iphone "lifetime" maps - I will not give them a second opportunity to cheat and steal from me again.
Updating maps is a nightmare
Updating maps on my TomTom Go 6100 is a nightmare. Luckily only an annual event... Here's my log of the latest trial (still going on...) 16-Jun-18: got email re map updates. Had to do 2 x MyDrive Connect app updates before it would consider maps, then had to delete NZ to make space for the rest (which, it seems, are now larger and close to device limit even with extra card). Installed: new firmware; Europe w/buildings; cameras; etc. Then it said 59m to go but then hung - and in fact it was asking me to "Agree" stuff on the TomTom's screen. Then it hung again saying there were no maps available. Then it said the TomTom system was busy... so I changed wi-fi connection - and it dropped but said it would retry. But the MyDrive app then shut down. I re-loaded it and the the TomTom said it was updating and MyDrive said 22% done and now 2h11m to go!!! So is it or isn't it updating??? 20min later it was saying 23% and 2h13m... Then it suddenly jumped to 24% and 59m, then 1h53m. After 40m of this it suddenly stopped and left the TomTom with no maps, and said I should restart the process. This I did, and after much starting from scratch incl. again specifying which of may possible maps I needed, left it to get on with it. I went out. Coming back after an hour or so, I found it had aborted the whole process again, no maps on TomTom was telling me to disconnect and reconnect the device. I did this and it restarted again.... soon 6% and 56m, then 52m, then 3h26m to go, still 6%... then dropped to 0%, then 6%, after 20m it's only 8% (on a 200Mb connection).... losing will to live...
Update: 30mins in and "10%" of map installed...
Update: 35mins in, "Update failed. Please try again." and on the MyDrive screen "Sorry some items weren't updated. Go back to Contents page and try again". Good grief....
**BEWARE**
**BEWARE** - Before you buy a tomtom device ensure that it will work with your current phone. I have just purchased a Via 52, which states it works with your smartphone, to enable it to give you traffic updates. IT DOES NOT!! it only works with old phones. It will not connect to my Samsung S8 which has now been out for a year. Tomtom device reports "Device incompable with this phone" After contacting Tomtom service I am informed they know it does not work with this phone, and they dont know when it will. Their suggestion is get another phone which runs on android 7. Thank you very much TomTom.
Tom Tom where originally very helpful…
Tom Tom where originally very helpful and would assist over the phone, and advise. Now there idea of help is email a standard info sheet how to correct an error. When correcting the error if it fails you get another infomation sheet advising how to correct that error.
If you phone them, another info sheet to your email. If you argue or ask for help, then they show their true customer skills mine advised "we do not need to help you, your device is out of warranty, I am only helping because purchased a map".Life time updates you will receive them maybe two years. They keep changing tom tom home, and it will not recognise your device, you need to link it to your account, again bye life time updates. I have a tom tom once it fails Garmin looks much better, infact probably better with an map.
VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE!
VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE!
They are doesn't care to customer. Call centre and other department not communicate each other. If you complaint some think, they start hiding. You can't find same person again. You have to tell all story every time. Again, again, again.
TERRIBLE PRODUCT, EVEN WORSE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!
Terrible product and even worse service. Don’t wast your time or money with this company!
I purchased a TomTom which I explained I would want to use in the USA, however the device can’t accommodate two maps (Europe & USA). In order to install a second you map create some space, but the device requires one map at all times, so can’t remove the Europe map to create space for the USA Map. After a week of going back and forth speaking to them whilst on holiday TomTom they admitted fault and installed a smaller USA map remotely for me (one that wasn’t available for public download), however I had to incur the cost if hiring a SatNav whilst away. Why bother buying one of their devices in the first place.
I spent four months contacting them after they had expressed in an email at the time that they would discuss reimbursement however all they did was tell me there was nothing they could do when I raised this with them after my holiday.
If you contact customer support they will tell you there is only one manager and that is the one who is dealing with your complaint, up there is nobody else you can speak to.
DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY WITH THIS TERRIBLE TERRIBLE COMPANY!
A brick (TomTom) and a hard place…
A brick (TomTom) and a hard place (Garmin). What is anybody to do? Think that's why the "SERVICE" is so bad. They know we won't be using them soon. Hope Britain gets their own system, or even use the EU alternative. They won't refuse so many $Euros!
