Toby carvery Redhill, I'll start with the positives, restaurant very pleasantly decorated and ambience good, staff very helpful too. The food however was cold, the beef very gristly, the roast potatoe... See more

Toby at st Anne’s usually very good but not today
Toby at st Anne’s usually very good except for today. Went for coffee at 10.50 and it wasn’t there so assumed it was being filled so popped back dead on 11am and still not there. Member of staff then said they stopped serving so I pointed out the coffee had gone at 10.50am. She offered to make me a coffee behind the bar and then my wife and daughter arrived asking and that didn’t raise a smile. Meanwhile the too good to go vultures were decimating what was left of the food and I’ve been going there for 10 years plus and always without fail a member of staff walks round checking that everyone has what they want before they shut it down and this never happened.
clenlines and service
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to express my disappointment following a recent visit to your Toby Carvery in Gravesend. My family and I have been regular customers since the restaurant first opened, and until now we have consistently enjoyed both the food and the service. Unfortunately, our latest experience fell well below the standards we have come to expect.
We arrived approximately 10 minutes before our 3:00pm booking and checked in, then waited at the bar for a drink.
During this time, I used the toilet facilities and was very concerned by their condition. The toilet was in an extremely unhygienic state, with the seat up and heavily stained underneath. The staining appeared old and ingrained, which was both unpleasant and unacceptable, and gave a very poor impression of cleanliness standards.
When we were eventually shown to our table, there was no initial greeting or attention from waiting staff, which is unusual based on our previous visits. After waiting a few minutes, we decided to collect our food ourselves as there was no queue. Upon returning, we still had not been attended to, and after further waiting my wife had to go and collect cutlery from the service area. It was only around 10 minutes later that a member of staff approached us to ask if everything was satisfactory.
While the food itself was generally good, the Yorkshire puddings were noticeably below the usual standard, being rather bland and chewy.
Overall, this visit was disappointing due to poor service and unacceptable cleanliness issues, which significantly detracted from what is usually an enjoyable experience. As long-standing customers, we hope this feedback will be taken seriously and that improvements will be made.
Toby Carvery bad food and car park fines
I met friends for the breakfast buffet in Ipswich after helping them move that day . It was the worst breakfast I had eaten but as I did not pay a friend picked up the bill , I put it down to experience one never to be repeated ( my friends and I like having breakfast together and trying news places ) . As a first and last time customer I left . 3 weeks later I receive a car park fine for not being a customer from EuroCarparks . Sadly I was a customer albeit once and I am to be fined £100 or £60 for making that mistake . I won't be paying the fine and if the appeal is denied that is not my problem as they can waste money persuing it like we wasted money on the worst breakfast in years not to mention the undrinkable coffee .
Absolutely rubbish
Absolutely rubbish, waited ages for table, not because a Que but just got ignored, pink turkey, hard cauliflower cheese, when told server to take turkey off my plate he argued it was cooked, young guy no manners on any skills for customer service, quite clearly it wasn’t cooked as it was definitely pink, food wasn’t hot it was tepid, food under tables, this was malton at York the hopgrove, will not be returning
A wonderful experience
Would like to thank the staff at Toby of whitewebbs Enfield for making our experience great we met some friends for a meal the food was delicious and very good quality the staff especially the manager and debbie who went over and above to help us they are dog friendly and is set in beautiful grounds we can't wait to return
Reasonable price dinner extortionate drinks price
Had two over 60s roast dinners, the meal was okay to be fair albeit the beef was extremely fatty, I’ve given it tw stars because of the drinks, £4.20 for a lemonade and £8.40 for a wine, the £7 for a roast was fine but the drinks a rip off
What sneaky office twerp came up with…
What sneaky office twerp came up with the idea of a £7 meal offer to the over 60s to find in smally small print the offer was after 3pm. Why would the CEO of Toby Carvery want to embarress his own employees trying to point it out at the presentation of the bill at lunchtime
We just visited the Toby Carvery in…
We just visited the Toby Carvery in York (Hopgrove) and the four of us all agreed it was the worst one we have ever had. After receiving the meat and very small Yorkshire, we faced empty roast potatoes x2, no stuffing and all other vegetable options were minimal. Moving onto the gravy and sauces, the gravy bowls were all empty and there was no cranberry sauce. We ordered desserts and one of us had the seasonal fruits sponge, which only contained a small fingernail of strawberry jam, most disappointing. I must praise the waitress Maria, who seemed to be worked off her feet and also having to deal with customer complaints which we overheard. Toby has always been one of our favourites and as we were coming to the end of our holiday, thought we would go to Toby. We were all disappointed with the whole experience.
Carvery Food was tasteless and bland
Carvery Food was tasteless and bland , sloppy and very watery ! Chef (meat server) was extremely rude ……cold food ! I asked for a children’s plate and he questioned why and who said I could have a child’s size dinner …. We were told by our server that it wasn’t an issue at all , as we eat very small portions. After that he served me a rubbish slice of beef and turned his head to the lady behind me. At no point was there a suggestion to my mother who is a vegetarian……we asked the server for the bill but the next time we asked we were then told to pay at the bar! Children’s chicken nugget meal rip off ! X5 chicken nuggets on a plate JOKE Will not be returning
Very disappointed…..my daughter booked…
Very disappointed…..my daughter booked a table for Mother’s Day, at the south Croydon restaurant. Our booking was for 19.00 and waited 10min to get a table, was a queue for the food which was fine, but the food OMG. It was nice at all, meat tough and dry, mash potatoes look disgusting, veg was cold and hard, and I left a whole plate of food….was not happy at all and the bill 49.99 for rubbish. They need to be more organised and also make sure there is fresh and great tasting food for our money.
Should have read the reviews
Should have read the reviews ! 15 min wait to get a booked table 60 min plus queue to the carvery ! Not the staff fault ! Just can’t cope when busy !
Shenstone Toby carvery was the worst ever
Shenstone Toby carvery was the worst carvery I have ever been to , we arrived at 18.30 but had to wait to be seated and then stand in a long queue at the carvery and didn’t start our meal until 19.40. The quality of the food was appalling with dried up or soggy cold vegetables.
I did ask why there was such a long delay and was told the carver of the meat was inexperienced but he was working on uis own and had to keep going out to the kitchen to bring in new fresh meat joints or Yorkshire puddings etc which just resulted in more queues!,
I won’t be going back there again
Chelmsford carvery.
We visited the Chelmsford carvery for my friends birthday.
She ordered a nut roast and it was given to her as we queued up. We queued straight away due to the long line.
When we just about to be served I had to ask the waitress for a fresh one as we had queued for half an hour.
Then as I was served I wanted the Lamb but was told that there was none left. I said did you only have one as its only 6.30pm
Then my friend very politely asked the server which vegetables were suitable for vegans.
Her reply was abrupt as she said don't shout at me your waitress should have sorted that out.
We went to Toby Crawley
We went to Toby Crawley. The chef had changed so service at counter was bad. People were waiting for over 10 minutes for someone to come out and carve. Huge queue The “chefs”. Hacked the joints rather than carved giving customer bits and small amount. The gave me a small piece of beef with no meat only fat. I think the portions are so small because the do not know how to carve.
Not Toby’s fault but family were there with 6 kids using it as a playground throwing balls. Toddler all over the place with waiting staff nearly went underfoot. She had to squeeze through chairs mother route to get round
Breakfast. They tried to stop serving at 10. When breakfast was until 11. Manager told them to get out there with food
Disappointing Visit
Disappointing Visit
I recently visited Toby Carvery and unfortunately the experience was quite disappointing. The soft drinks were very expensive, which felt excessive for what was offered.
At the carvery, there were only small bits of meat available rather than proper slices, which was not what I expected from a traditional roast. The Yorkshire puddings were also very small, which was surprising for a place known for traditional roast dinners. The roast vegetables and gravy were only warm rather than hot, which made the meal less enjoyable.
The restaurant itself also looked a little tired, with chairs and tables that seemed to have seen much better days.
Overall, the visit did not live up to expectations and I won’t be visiting again in the near future.
Just wanted to say how great Troy was…
Just wanted to say how great Troy was he was so attentive and efficient and showed great patience it was busy and he was doing serving seating and bar work and always had a smile on his face. He is like this everytime we go what amazing customer service. Bradford rooley lane chain
We visited Toby Carvery at the Plymouth…
We visited Toby Carvery at the Plymouth restaurant.
What a huge disappointment.
Awful carvery very little choice of vegetables which we asked to be replenished and the Chef seems not interested.Wafer thin dried up meat.
The most unhappy Chef carving with no customer service skills.
Will never return after this awful experience.
We left after paying and didn't make a complaint maybe we should of but just wanted to leave.
Visited the Toby Carvery at Washington…
Visited the Toby Carvery at Washington on Thursday 5th March. First visit for a couple years.
While awaiting our turn in the carvery queue I advised my friend (a first time Toby visitor) to avoid the beef as it is always "stringy" and has been for many many years.
Another customer in the queue overheard my remark and said they totally agreed with it.
On coming onto Trustpilot to write my review, I naturally had a quick read of the first few pages of the reviews and surprise surprise I am not alone. Why don't they invest in some better quality beef?
However, I went for turkey and my friend had turkey and gammon. We both enjoyed what we had hence the 4 star rating ..... if only they had some decent beef it could be 5 stars.
I have been going to Brockworth carvery…
I have been going to Brockworth carvery for a month and the carvery I had today was as dry as a flip flop and the meat awful.
A disgusting general manager with an attitude problem
We had a nice meal, prompt service at the Huddersfield Toby.
Myself and my friend are regulars at Toby.
On the 4th March as normal We just get what we can manage to be able to enjoy our meal, and we have never gone up for seconds.
As usual we always have dog poo bags in our pockets which come in handy as for example if roasties are too tough or the cauli stems are rock hard and fat on the meat , and we will take the scraps home for our dogs. Its not alot of scraps because our plates where never overfilled to start off with.
However we did the same as we usually do and when we got the bill they charged us for taking food away, and that this was a 'new policy'. Spoke to Craig the general manager who was disgruntled arrogant and extremely rude shouting at us. Craig would not listen to what we where saying about why the customers had not been informed about this. Oh gosh we have never experienced a manager behave in such a manner, kept calling us 'darling' in the most patronising way. He called us liars he accused us of going up for more food and abusing the carvery. He completely dismissed what we where trying to say and was very sarcastic in his tone and manner.
Craig Does not deserve to be a general manager.
