Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 18,632 reviews, reviewers had a great experience with this company. Customers consistently find the booking process very easy and straightforward, appreciating the ability to review travel options and compare different days and times quickly. Many highlight the user-friendly interface and the convenience of having everything in one place, making it simple to find journeys and add passenger details. Reviewers also frequently mention the good prices, often finding them better than other options, and the clear presentation of train times, routes, and prices. However, some customers experienced frustration with the website, noting issues like being taken back to the start when trying to go back a page or difficulties with seat allocation for multiple passengers. A few other people also felt that the booking fees were unnecessary or unclear, and some found it challenging to apply railcards or manage changes to their bookings, leading to unexpected costs.

Refund policy

One of the worst refund/cancellation policies I have seen; Particularly after a train is cancelled, all because of the focus on ticket type rather than customer experience.

Printing a ticket doesn’t work

Printing a ticket doesn’t work - the machines at stations near me don’t work. It is much easier if I can print at home or preferably have the ticket on my app. Some destinations do this and others don’t give you the opportunity. Brandon to Brighton - has to be done at the station whereas Brandon to St Pancras International was on the app - same train lines!

PLEASE DO NOT USE TRAINLINE ABROAD

If you are abroad with the Trainline app sitting comfortably on your phone - don't use it abroad. Please believe the authenticity of this review. It is based on a genuine experience and not prompted. Many of these reviews are prompted. It's just been nightmarish the whole experience. If there is a glitch or ANY KIND OF PROBLEM with your ticket Trainline can't help you. They sold me a ticket that was unchangeable on any app in Europe and they had the audicity to sell me insurance for the ticket which can't be changed by the way. You'll find that out when you run into a problem. So please do not buy their insurance either. It's a total scam. They also issued the insurance in my daughter's name (who was the traveller) and the ticket in my name (not the traveller) When I saw what they had done, I contacted them immediately daring to imagine this was a small fix - please change the name on the ticket, but they couldn't fix it. In 2026. Take your money in two seconds, but can't edit your ticket. I was passed around like a hot potato. It consumed thirty extra euros trying to call them, and the call lines are really long. To be clear there are train strikes in Europe, also the weather is crazy hot right now - so a lot of people need the flexibility they purchase. I also upgraded the ticket to first class while purchasing - made no difference. Trainline has totally checked out. You couldn't reach anyone, and when you do you're cut off. I was cut off four times and I sent the screenshots to the CS who kept telling me to call the number I'd been calling. I have also sent two emails. One CS insisted I send an email to trainline.eu and the email bounced back because their inbox is too full - can you imagine? After 20 hours I am still waiting for someone to get back to me. This was their mistake to be clear. I was passed from one department to the other and it's just more time wasting. When you are travelling and in need of the right ticket you need prompt assistance, but there is none to be found. Every department I was passed to was like a gatekeeper obstructing me from solving a problem trainline know they can't solve as a third party seller in the EU. The other problem you will face is the EU trainlines you have your ticket with won't fix a problem generated by a third person seller. Trainline is good for checking timetables on your phone, but do yourself a favour use the local kiosks, or local apps to buy tickets because as a foreigner if you are caught with the wrong ticket in another country it's an automatic fine sometimes and trainline doesn't care. They have your money and you are travelling and your needs are immediate - so you will figure it out, right? That's their brilliant customer services model. The solution for the buyer is often having to buy a new ticket. It's not worth the hassle of dealing with Trainline when you are abroad. Save yourself the time, and the money I unfortunately wasted navigating this incompetent company that has no business doing travel business in Europe because they cannot manage it. The foreign apps all have English options, and they are often cheaper. If there's a problem you can take the issue to the train station, and they will help you, but not if you bought a ticket from a third party app they are not responsible to. I can't give Trainline zero stars. I would if I could. I will never use them again. It's been a nightmare dealing with them. About an hour ago, they sent me a survey to rate the insurance policy they sent me - I can't use it, and I can't use the ticket until someone gets back to me and fixes their mistake.
