Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 24 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall with these products. Consumers frequently encounter major durability issues, such as tool bodies cracking under light pressure, blades going blunt immediately after first use, and hardware components failing completely after minimal wear. People also express deep frustration regarding incompatible battery designs, missing features, and replacement parts that simply do not match previous models. Some reviewers were satisfied with specific items, noting that certain tool kits and hedge trimmers perform very well during projects. Others appreciated the robust design, solid value, and long-lasting history of using these brand products over the years.

I’m really disappointed with this Stanley toolbox. The plastic feels cheap, and after only light, normal use it snapped like it was made to break. I wasn’t overloading it or abusing it—just carrying... See more

Frustrating experience with Stanley outdoor product

I bought Stanley line trimmer curve shaft 4 stroke motor 26cc and had been used lightly around 3 years (hardly use in winter time and during summer time only using once every 2-3 weeks). Recently I got the shaft broken (this never happened to other brand I've ever used before) and the worst and nightmare to get the replacement parts. The retailers were not helpful to sort the problems, I visited independent lawn mower tools repairers and service they also cannot help.

Purchased a Stanley Fatmax cordless…

Purchased a Stanley Fatmax cordless drill with 2 batteries on 03.05.2023. Got home and tried to use my product few days later. Tried charging batteries and one battery was completely dead. Contacted Stanley and the only thing they could do is give me £20 for a £40 battery claiming that they can not just replace the said battery. After a long time on the phone I decided I could live with just one battery so took the £20.
I then registered the drill for the 3 year guarantee and used the drill 6 or 7 times. The 10mm drill bit is stuck in the chuck and I can't get it out.
I again spent 10 minutes on the phone to Stanley to be told this is not covered in the guarantee.
Absolutely ridiculous - poor quality products and poor customer service will never by Stanley or Black & Decker products again.

Faulty Stanley tools and poor customer service

I was always drawn to Stanley when it came to reliability and price with there products, however on this incident with my few month old tool grips coming off and nearly injuring me as it happened I contacted customer support and like previously mentioned comments I had to jump through many hoops without a conclusion or replacement which is very disappointing to me but a lesson learnt for my next tool purchased.

Customer Service!! What service? Zero service!

Customer Service!!! They have no idea what those two simple words mean. I made a mistake in the first place in buying some battery operated Stanley tools. My fault! Never again. Apparently the products come with an automatic 12 month warranty but can be easily extended by completing the purchase details within 7 days of purchase. All done as instructed. Now less than 18 months later, guess what? Not covered by warranty. It took the customer service department through their wonderful email system 10 days to get all the information they wanted from me. First email, what date did you purchase it? second email what was the product, third email what is wrong with the product, fourth email and so it goes on. Their response time as a customer service department is atrocious, but what do they care. Finally on day 11 they said that it is not covered. What a load of boloney. They wear you out with dragging a simple problem out for weeks. Is it really worth trying to claim under warranty? It's simply not worth the time and effort. You can't get to speak to anyone, they won't call you on the phone. Is it worth buying a Stanley tool, As long as it stays fault free yes. If you have a problem with it then its best throw it in the bin with a customer service department so bad it just isn't worth the hassle. Next purchase is DeWalt, no questions at all.

Stanley Power Cleaner - Buy any other, not this junk

Bought a Stanley Power Cleaner which turned out to be appalling. The connection between hose and gun is exceptionally badly designed, and since struggling with mine I've been told by two different builders that you have to tape the joint with the stanley cleaners to make them work. The company makes good tools normally, but this experience has made me doubt if their commitment to making good tools is genuine at all. No decent manufacturer would put rubbish like this in the marketplace.

I have some sortmaster boxes which…

I have some sortmaster boxes which don't latch together very well which resulted in them falling to the floor breaking one of the lids. I contacted Stanley tools to ask if a replacement lid was available ,They seemed to care and asked me for a part number which I supplied.
They then sent me extracts saying it wasn't covered by the warranty as it had been misued.
Well firstly it wasn't misused , it was their fault it hit the floor due to poor quality and secondly I never asked for a warranty claim.
If you want organiser boxes I would go for a better quality one as these can only handle DIY use.

Stanley fatmax utility knife

Stanley fatmax utility knife, utterly useless. It is actually dangerous changing the blade, as the little red button usually refuses to release the blade.. Overpriced garbage. Gone back to a £4 Rolson knife from BM, much safer to change blade, and better to use.

I have bought 3 Stanley tools this…

I have bought 3 Stanley tools this month, 1 folding knife, 1 2 inch filling knife and a 3 metre retractable tape measure. The folding knife blade kept coming lose and would not stay in position. The filling knife vlade broke on half on 3rd use. The retractable tape measure no longer fully retracts. All are now in the bin where they should be. Stanley Tools are now basic, cheap rubbish. My Dad had Stanley tools from 40 years ago, still going strong, but todays efforts are just cheap poorly made crap. Never again will I buy anything Stanley

Poor products and useless warrantee

Poor products and useless warrantee. The Stanley Fat Max Oscillating Tool, bought for DIY and hardly used, broke while still under the registered extended warrantee. Stanley will not honour the warrantee without the original B&Q receipt even though the purchase was registered on line. Technical support has been useless.

1 star is being generous & I vow never…

1 star is being generous & I vow never to buy a Stanley product again! I bought a cordless fat max mower and additional batteries. a year & 1 week after purchase the mower broke. Bearing in mind I purchased it in May 22 & it wasn’t used at all from the late oct 22 till April 23 it’s had minimal use. So was hoping for a better response from stanly cus services. Basically as I hadn’t registered it (filled out a form!!) it wasn’t eligible for their extended warranty!!! As if filling in a form should make such a difference as you don’t need the bat ones serviced so I’m at a complete loss as to why this was such an issue. Still they kindly gave me the option to get it repaired at my expense!! So Stanley won’t get my custom again. As for the mower itself when it was working it was ok IF the ground was like a bowling green and dry it wasn’t the easiest to use on uneven lawn or when grass was wet…

Lack of empathy or comprehension

Contacted customer service on two occasions and they declined to take responsibility for a defective product.

Asked for a good will gesture but was ignored. Very disappointed.

Absolutely shocking customer service

Absolutely shocking customer service, if you want to buy spares forget it, the website is absolutely useless and they don't seem to have any service agents in the UK. My pressure washer has nothing wrong with it except for one rubber seal needs replacing but they don't sell them !!!!

Bought a Stanley FATMAX drill

Bought a Stanley FATMAX drill. Tried to register it for the extended warranty (from 1 to 3 years). When you look at the drill there is no serial number stamped on it - when you contact Stanley they give you a generic number to put into the website - so much for security. You are going to have to mark it yourself but at least a thief wont have to worry about altering the Stanley serial number after he has stolen the drill.

When I tried to enter the manufacture date code stamped on the drill the website rejected it. After numerous Email exchanges with Stanley Customer Services and me telling then their website would not accept the date format they had suggested to me I gave up. Maybe that suits Stanley. I get that funny feeling the drill wont last three years.

Stanley used to be a good make.
Not anymore the plastics are cheap rubbish the metal is weak and blunts easy. i got a stanley toolbox for Xmas barely used it and the wheel snapped £80 down the drain. Spoke to stanley they won't replace the wheel cos I don't have the reciept as it was brough as a present for Xmas. Disgusted with the customer service. Im a joiner and I've brought stanley tools for 25 odd years. I certainly won't be buying any more after this service. Since they left sheffield there just cheaply made.

Dishonest and don’t honour the guarantee

Power washer used only 2/3 times last year. Now smoke pouring out of it. Contacted Amazon who confirmed the details with them and sent me a link fire Stanley Tools. Followed the link, they say they have them manufactured by another company and it is not their responsibility. Told me to look in the manual to find out who my warranty is with. I checked…it shows the name Stanley Tools…! Absolutely appalling, misleading and dishonest. Will never purchase Stanley again. Got a refund from Amazon but this isn’t right, hopefully they take it up with the rogue company.

I bought a fatmax impact driver and…

I bought a fatmax impact driver and hammer drill combo on which the forward/reverse switch on both of them failed within a couple of weeks of each other. This has to be a fault with the part which is the same. The first one that failed I replaced myself, when the second one went I contacted them. but they wanted me to send the tool back to them along with all the doccumentation. all for something that would cost them a couple of pence. terrible customer service.
